Sam's Southern Eatery — Restaurant in Rome

Sam Southern Eatery in Rome has always been a favorite place for me to eat. At least once every week, I travel from Calhoun, GA.

Ever since the young woman and the young man at the front cashier counter joined the restaurant, I no longer enjoy eating there.

Both my husband and I always order the same thing. Each time I visit, these two workers always get my orders wrong. As usual, I ordered the same food a week before today. I asked for some ranch dressing, but they didn't give me any. Today, I reminded them three times to give me some ranch dressing for my salad. After checking the food in my car, they didn't give me any again. If I sit down in the restaurant to eat, the salad comes with my catfish. If its Togo oreder, you get French fry instead. I asked them if I could have a salad instead of french fries. He says no. I needed to pay for my salad. I said fine, but please include ranch dressing. I attached the receipt FYI.

I returned to the restaurant and requested to speak with the manager. The young lady rudely tells me, 'He is not here!'

We won't be eating at this restaurant anymore.

This was our first time going here. We started with the fried green tomatoes and fried mushrooms. I typically don't like fried green tomatoes but did try them out and they were great! Seasoned, fried, and cut to perfection in my opinion. Now the fried mushrooms on the other hand weren't as good. If you have read any of my reviews you should know that we love fried mushrooms but I digress. As I was saying, the mushrooms were good but seems like they were cooked too long. On to our meal, she had shrimp skewers and fried fish. She absolutely loved it! I had a cheeseburger with crinkle fries. Gotta say the crinkle fries were excellent and the burger was the bomb! Service here was out of this world! The place was clean!! The bathrooms were clean except I noticed that the vent fan had what looked like years of dust accumulated on it. There was someone who would come around with samples of cheese cake to try. Like a good restaurant, they would ask if everything was ok. It is situated in a strip mall, not hard to find, and located in Rome, Georgia. Pricing wasn't too high even for the two of us. Definitely would go back to try...

I was lied to about the fish offered. I asked the cashier (assuming was the manager) if they served catfish. He said yes. Asked if I wanted 4 or 6. Usually catfish is expensive. So I asked for 4 pieces. The red flag should've been that it was around $11 for 4 pieces and 2 sides. The guy was not inviting at all. Rushed me. When I came back to pick up my order, there was another person at the counter. She was quite young. I asked if I could get Italian dressing. She told me that it was in the bag already. How did you know what dressing I wanted. The bag was tied really tight. The red beans was turned over. The food wasn't for me. When I dropped the food off, he checked the order and it was not catfish. Called and was passed to a few ppl before I got who I assumed was the manager. He basically told me I was a liar. And they fried all their fish in the same batter so it looked all the same. I am a Southern woman. I know what catfish look like. Didn't want to refund the money.
