I run errands in Roseville fairly often and had recently noticed Mi-Sant while I was out and about. My husband I happened to be over that way yesterday, and decided to check it out. SO GLAD we did! Wow, this place is fantastic! We got an early dinner, and everything we tried was fantastic. I got the Mi-Sant Special bowl with rice, my husband got banh mi, and we shared an order of spring rolls. We really like Thai and Vietnamese food, and were very impressed with the freshness of the spring rolls and how flavorful they were. And the springs rolls are MASSIVE. Three of those was more than we could eat along with our meal. I've eaten at other Vietnamese places were the rice is dry and the meat is overcooked and hard to chew. But the bowl I had at Mi-Sant was fabulous - soft rice, with vegetables that were perfectly cooked, and tender flavorful meat. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much meat they add to the bowls as well. The Mi-Sant Special bowl comes with an eggroll (eaten immediately before I thought to take a picture) and an egg along with the generous serving of meat and vegetables. My husband said the banh mi he got was flavorful and very well balanced, and he said the bread had that perfect crispy outer layer with the interior staying soft. I also ordered the strawberry matcha latte and again, it was perfect. The matcha isn't overly sweetened, the strawberry puree sweetening the drink without being too sugary.
We also loved the interior of the restaurant and how relaxing and welcoming it is. We sat in the "sun room" area where there are couches and plants. While darkness had already fallen by the time we were eating, I can imagine how lovely it would be to sit on a couch in the sunshine and enjoy a nice lunch there. This is definitely going to be my new favorite lunch spot to meet people at, and I'm just bummed I didn't...
Read moreEverything is good here. Except for their online ordering system. Super sucks!!!
It's EVERY time too. Their wait time for online is not the same for when the food is actually ready. They're faster than the system. But even then, they don't pack the food right away. I've had to sit and wait for my food for over 10mins on many occasions. Only until someone asks me what I am waiting for will they get my good. And it turns out the food had been ready for a long time already. I see them packing the food sitting at the counter that has been there since I have arrived.
Why? Why leave the food sitting? You have a system that you control when the order is up. It let's the customer know if the food is ready earlier or not. Why not pack the food and send the notification out?
Today was not busy at all. Workers were relaxed but still doing their job. Many of them looked my way and didn't say anything. A couple next to me was talking about how the online system sucked too.
The only reason I finally got my food was because someone new walked in and a worker happened to be right there to ask what they were there for. The worker didn't engage with me or the couple that had been waiting there for a while already. So I had to ask the worker to check on my order too. Only then did they ask the couple as well.
I mean, thanks to the worker that came over. But seriously .... how long were the workers gonna stare at us?
Like I said, everything else about this place is fine. Just the online ordering system they got...
Read moreNow after a few more visits I am updating my review. The bread is still top notch. My favorite banh mi is definitely the shrimp- it's spicy and fresh and delicious. The spring rolls are really good, but I am just not digging the peanut sauce- it is bland and watery.
What is stopping me from ordering from here more often is the complete disorganization of the process. I order online, but when I arrive at my designated time, they never seem to know what to do. Last night I ordered online, and 30 minutes later stopped in. I let them know I was here, they alerted the person making drinks, and they made my iced Vietnamese coffee, which then sat on the counter for 10 minutes. I went back up to ask about my food, and low-and-behold it was ready and sitting there the whole time. It's just a super messy operation- they definitely were not super busy or anything. Everyone is nice, the place just needs someone managing the many moving parts. I wish this was a place you could just stop in and grab a sandwich and be on your way in less than 20 minutes- I would be there often, instead I go to iPho and can get sandwiches made fresh to-order in 3 minutes and be on my way!
Review from June 2021:
The banh mi bread is the best I have ever had- it's light and perfectly crunchy and crumbly. The pork sandwich was delicious, but it was the taro coconut croissant that will draw me back again and again. So good. The shop is super cute and I look forward to when you...
