I travel for work every week and have to come to the area for the work I perform at nearby Beale AFB. I usually stay at the Residence Inn, however it was booked. I arrived Tuesday March 12th at about 430pm and was lookig for a good meal since I only had breakfast. I found this restaurant after a quick search and found out it was open recently as it was not there last time I visited. I sat at the sushi bar. Ordered hot green tea, my go to to relax me after my flight and drive from Sacramento airport. I then ordered the shashimi appetizer which was blue fin, golden salmon and pepperfin tuna. Excellent presentation and umami. I then ordered the spicy Gyunika ramen. The flavor of the soy broth and thin noodles made my day. The tender short rib and soft boiled egg were fantastic. The entire bowl was amazing. I then ordered the Ankimo, monkfish liver or the foie gras of the sea. The smooth texture, crisp cucumber, roe, and fig made this 5 portion plate well worth it. Dont think of the word liver when ordering and enjoy the plating and fantastic umami. I finished with yuzu cheescake and the soft creamy texture and chocolate was perfect way to end my meal, along with another cup of green tea. I decided that I would be back the next day Wednesday for more. I went back on the next day for dinner again and sat at the bar. This time I ordered the Seared Tuna Tataki, Unagi Don and green tea cheesecake. I again ordered a hot green tea, my go to even at home after a long day. The seared Tuna melts in your mouth and has very good flavor. I enjoyed every bite. I then ordered the Unagi Don, fresh water eel over sushi rice. It was amazing. The eel sauce and bbq eel were perfect and the extra sauce dripping into the rice made it even better. Finishing off with the green tea cheese cake and tea. I checked my schedule and I will be back in June for a week, can't wait to try more on the menu next time I am in town. As someone that travels 80% of every month all over the country and world I typically only eat Asian style foods when travelling; it is lighter , fresher and typically quieter in their restuarants. This is important for someone on the road like me all the time. Fantastic food and...
Read moreAfter hearing about this place for months, finally made our way to enjoy lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, decor, and branding. Everything has their logo on it, so it feels very upscale. Plus everything feels clean, well maintained, and the table setup is quite inviting.
Going in I planned on having a bento box, but after looking at the menu, I was drawn to the Tonkatsu Ramen. I love a good ramen and was excited to try it. We also got an order of their goyza for an appetizer.
The goyza is pan fried and is served in a very decorative manner. The dumpling wrapper is light, which I prefer over thicker wrappers. The flavor was good and the dipping sauce was on point. However, I wish they were hotter and the pan fry just a bit more crispy. They weren’t cold, but just a few more degrees would make these perfect.
The tonkatsu ramen came with pork belly, corn, nori, soft boiled marinated egg, bamboo shoots, and green onion. The broth was very authentic looking and tasting. The noodles were cooked well and still had that signature chew. The pork was absolutely delicious, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the amount of items in the ramen. It came with plenty of noodles, but I would have enjoyed more corn and green onion. I also wish they provided some chili oil or something to add spice as it was a bit bland. Lastly, it just wasn’t hot enough. The soft boiled egg, while good, was cold in the middle and sadly is only a half egg, not even a whole one.
I definitely will be going back to try some other items on their menu, but I’d like to see their food hotter next time. The atmosphere is really nice and the...
Read moreRoku Japanese Cuisine absolutely deserves every one of its 5 stars! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone for an incredible dining experience—stylish, warm, and welcoming. The staff greets you with genuine smiles and provides attentive service throughout the meal without ever being overbearing.
The food is truly next-level. Every dish feels like it’s made with passion and care. The sushi is fresh, beautifully presented, and melts in your mouth. Their rolls are creative yet perfectly balanced, and the sashimi quality is some of the best I’ve ever had in Sacramento. The hot dishes are just as impressive—flavorful, perfectly cooked, and portioned generously.
What makes Roku stand out even more is the attention to detail. From the artistic plating to the quality of ingredients, you can tell they take pride in everything they serve. Drinks are also on point—the sake selection and cocktails complement the food perfectly.
Whether you’re coming for a casual night out, a special celebration, or just to satisfy a craving for amazing Japanese food, Roku delivers every single time. It’s rare to find a restaurant that nails the combination of great food, fantastic service, and a cozy yet upscale vibe, but Roku does exactly that.
Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for top-tier Japanese cuisine—you won’t be disappointed. Roku is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the area, and I’ll keep coming back...
