We were very excited to try this new restaurant - especially because its high rating - but were unfortunately underwhelmed. The restaurant itself is very “gray modern” in the sense that it will look out of date as soon as the next trend comes around. The music choice was a bit bizarre (piano version of top hits) and each of very large screen televisions inside were playing a different cartoon. The ambiance didn’t add anything to the experience.
We were seated and provided a menu quickly (which needs some proofreading but sometimes can be a good sign food wise). We wanted to try one skewer each of chicken and beef kaboodeh but there wasn’t a mixed kaboodeh option on the menu. When we asked the waiter if this could be accommodated he firmly said that they would not. A bit strange considering chicken would be cheaper and they could still charge the cost for the beef only version - but ok. We ordered French fries for our son to munch on, banjan, and the spicy mix grill (beef kaboodeh with chicken boti). We asked our waiter if the rice that comes with the mixed grill has the signature raisins and carrots we love at afghan restaurants and he confirmed it did.
The food came out fast - but it would have been better if the kitchen took a little more time and care. The French fries were literally so pale that we thought that they weren’t even fried. We asked the waiter about it right away and he said they were cooked. We tried one and agreed it was “cooked” but it was not crispy or browned on the least. The banjan lacked salt but after adding some ourselves it was decent but we have had better at other restaurants.
The mixed grill was also quickly delivered to our table - but the rice didn’t have raisins and carrots. When we asked about it, the waiter argued for a few seconds with us that the dish comes with “afghan” pulao and not “kabuli” pulao but ended up kindly offering to bring the rice we wanted from the kitchen. Which by the way is the exact same rice just with raisins and carrots (no other seasoning).
The mixed grill was cooked well and tasted nice. The chicken was a bit artificial red color that I associate more with desi bbq. I do wish there was a yogurt dish offered as chicken breast can be a little dry. Mixed with the banjan though it was good.
All in all a very “ok” experience that left us confused why there are so many rave reviews. We will stick to Olomi when the mood for Afghan food arises.
Edited to add : forgot to mention the water glasses had food particles on them and were unappetizing to drink out of. Luckily we had our own water bottles available.
I am providing honest feedback because I want halal business to succeed. Mediocre...
Read moreI heard about this restaurant in a Facebook group and wanted to try it. So we came here on my birthday. First thing I noticed that restaurant was like super clean and very nice. Of course the cleanliness makes anything stand out. The attitude of staff was also good, no questions about it. Now let’s talk about food, which is the primary reason we are here. We ordered Kabudei kabob and didn’t liked it very much, it was dry and flavorless. Mutton Karhai was good but portion was not enough. Narenj Pulao was second winner and Lamb Shank was exceptionally big, rice were less though. Half Chicken Spicy was good as well (though i am not a chicken fan), again rice was mot enough in it. Doogh was good and a must try. I might come here again but i will specially ask to get more rice this time.
Update for 25-May-2023: Came back with friends and ordered platter for 8. $200 for platter was quite pricey, also we paid $50 for gratuity which honestly pi$$ed us off. Zabihah premium price i guess.
Suggestion for owner: Please increase portion of rice in all the dishes and add some more meat in Muttor Karhai. Also 20% mandatory gratuity is way too much.
Suggestion for Customers: If you are fan of Kaboodei kabob, it’s not the best here but Lamb Shank, Spicy Chicken, Mutton Karhai are good. Ask to get more rice and don’t forget to order Doogh. Also be prepared for 20% gratuity if you are 5 or more. (They count kids as well)

Above format would be best to justify my review so i will hopefully continue to keep this for all my next reviews.
Update: July-25-2024 So I revisited this restaurant and had to increase my stars to 5. I rarely do that but if someone deserves it, why not. Just to keep it simple and short, they have mde the size portions of Karhai pretty good now, the taste and temperature are done better as well, and the staff is well trained and...
Read moreWe went to dine in on my wife’s birthday, expecting a nice and lovely dinner !! Food here is exceptional, taste is on point . Best food you can get in the restaurant. But, service is horrible, they have no idea how to manage customers and once you walk in the restaurant and they give you table, they don’t care about you. It was supposed to be my one of the best evening but turned out to be one of the worst dinning experiences i ever had.
We have to wait 45 minutes just to get the water on the table after we got the table. After and hour of seating,We had to call the server to order our food. We put order for drink and appetizers first and he asked us to give the order for main course too. We got our food on the table after 15 minutes and surprisingly We never received our drinks and appetizers.
They brought only chicken item in the order and when asked for the side items then only they brought NAAN, the dish was still missing salad as one of their side item. After we ate waited pur food thought to get some dessert and waited about 10 minutes and none came us. Then we decided to go to pay on the counter.
He seems like manager who was at counter and he pulled up our check with all the items we ordered and i told him the items we were missing and his response was, i will take that out of check. I also let him know that the dish was missing side salad on the side. First he said, dish we ordered doesn’t come with salad, I pointed on the menu and he realized he was wrong ,i was surprised by his response ,he replied with “that doesn’t cost much”.
Then i decided, i am done with talking to him,!! it was not the place when you come expecting nice dinning...
