I’ve worked in foodservice business, management, service industry for years and I have professional degrees for public policy studies, management, etc. The unprofessionalism and disrespect I experienced last night was textbook definition of what not to do.
When we were seated and ordered, Robin our server asked to see my ID, and then she just left with the ID without communicating anything to me. Robin was gone for several minutes, I was so perplexed. She came back out with other items in her hands and then went behind the bar with my ID to speak with others about the ID showing it to multiple people. I asked a passerby server (the manager, I later learned) for communication and about what was going on.
Robin finally came back, and after I asked, explained my legitimate ID looked like a fake because of the signature’s microprint placement. Her explanation was shoddy and unclear. I told her that my ID is my property and she cannot take it without basic communication. She tried to defend herself that she did communicate this to me (?). If that was the case, why didn’t she wait for a response (basic customer and people interaction etiquette) from me?
Robin said she’s been working in this business since since she was 18, for many years. If that’s the case, then she really should have known how to properly communicate and check IDs with standard, respect, and customer service.
At the end of my visit, I asked Robin if I could share my feedback/thoughts, to which she said yes. The conversation ended up being a big back-and-forth between me and Robin. Never did Robin once apologize or use customer service, and she was combative till we left. The manager was present as well and condoned this.
My main point to Robin and the manager was I did not receive appropriate respect and communication - this is not how things are handled in foodservice business and customer service - and my visit was a very disappointing experience, especially as a frequent visitor.
Robin said she was trying to protect the business and herself. If Robin is interested in protecting the business and herself, then Robin should know how to properly check IDs. Her uncommunicated confiscation, however several minutes brief, was not legally authorized. As a server, Robin has the legal authority to determine whether or not to sell alcohol. However, Robin does not have any legal authority to take my legitimate ID from me and give me a difficult time about about it. I was treated as guilty and disrespected when I had done nothing wrong.
Robin also accused me of complaining to her manager, referring to when I asked the manager my initial question. It was preplexing that Robin accused me of ‘not giving her enough time to communicate she had taken my ID.’ I tried to deescalate the situation with Robin, but she was combative till we left.
I am a frequent customer at Mazzy’s, in my 30s, and have used my same Georgia driver’s license when I visit. It’s glaring I had this particular experience when I visited the business for the first time without white folks, so it unfortunately reeked of implicit bias.
As for the actual service, which I’m happy to give benefit of doubt, Robin gave me the most watery drink I’ve ever had, she forgot to bring out an item I had ordered, yet she still charged me for the item (small item, but service principle). She also judged me, gave me resistance, and treated me like I didn’t know what I was doing when I asked for hot water with my food (does Robin not know that about half of the world drinks water like this…?).
Overall, I feel sad and disappointed. I dragged my friend here to chill and have fun, not feel irked unwelcome and like...
Read moreI came in twice within two nights... first night started rocky and ended very great! Our bartender/server was amazing and attentive. I brought coworkers who I thought would love this place especially since we are all in the service industry both nights we asked for bottle beer this is a preference and I was offered a choice both nights asked for a bottle both nights and was given a draft. I approached the bartender/server about this that I had the night before then somehow the server was informed and then got aggressive and aggravated and would not approach the table anymore. Also I understand getting aggravated with a guest she didn’t have anything to do with my first experience but instead she ignored not only me but 5 other people who had nothing to do with the draft/bottle problem. You are in the service industry.
UPDATE: Stayed for a while after and gave pool a shot the management does check these reviews and I loved that he approached us and did an incredible job of hearing us out and making sure that we were well taken care of by the end of the night!! We will be back next time we are in town for...
Read moreWe’ve been customers to this location (ROSWELL) for past 10 years. But this past year, after top management finally “heard” us, meaning we, customers, this Bar is back being an amazing place to go. Food is always great, and service & management are back to top service. Their Wings are one of best we’ve ever had. PS: we’re not only customers with this complaint, but About 1 year ago, we posted a very long complain on Yelp ( along with dozens of other unhappy customers) and hoped Owners would read because even though for the last 3 Years before our complain on declining service, the extremely loud music, and the now ex-“Manager” wouldn’t even try getting Bar back to it was, and was horrible .. we didn’t want to quit this Sports Bar. Owners and top management (River) not only Read the post on Yelp, but took action. I believe “Manager” was fired, Servers & Service are back being great, and finally the extremely loud music is gone, so now we can go back w friends that had quit going there, can have normal conversations & enjoy atmosphere at bar. Hope it continues one of the best local Sports Bar! 5 stars...
