Hey Chicken, nestled within Duke's Bakery at the Diamond Plaza Shopping Center in Rowland Heights, offers an exceptional take on Chinese-style fried chicken. This popular chain is renowned for its ultra-crispy, non-greasy battered chicken, reminiscent of KFC but elevated in flavor and texture.
During our recent visit, my kids and I indulged in a variety of their offerings:
Fried Chicken Sandwich: A generous, juicy chicken fillet encased in a perfectly crispy batter, served between soft buns. The seasoning was impeccable, making each bite delightful.
Popcorn Chicken: Bite-sized pieces of tender chicken, each boasting a crispy exterior. These were seasoned with their signature five-spice blend, offering a burst of flavor in every morsel.
New Orleans Chicken Wings: For those seeking a non-battered option, these roasted wings were a treat. They were succulent and infused with a smoky, mildly spicy seasoning that was both unique and satisfying.
Fried Chicken Wings: Classic fried wings that were crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The seasoning was spot-on, making them a crowd-pleaser.
Cheese Sticks: A delightful surprise, these sticks featured molten cheese encased in a crunchy shell, offering a pleasant contrast in textures.
French Fries: Golden and crispy, these fries were the perfect accompaniment to the chicken dishes.
Fried Drumstick: A substantial piece of chicken that was both crispy and moist, showcasing the expertise in their frying technique.
One of the standout features of Hey Chicken is their emphasis on seasoning. Their signature five-spice blend adds a depth of flavor that sets their fried chicken apart from typical offerings. For those who prefer a kick, the spicy version provides just the right amount of heat without overpowering the palate.
The ambiance within Duke's Bakery is cozy, and the self-service kiosk makes ordering straightforward. The staff ensures that each order is prepared fresh, maintaining the quality and crispiness of the food.
For anyone in the Rowland Heights area or beyond, a visit to Hey Chicken is a must. Their dedication to delivering high-quality, flavorful fried chicken is evident in every item...
Read moreIf you haven't tried Chinese-style fried chicken yet, you’ve got to check out Hey Chicken! This casual eatery is a gem that serves up some seriously tasty chicken dishes. I dove into the Hey Double New Orleans Chicken Sandwich for $12.99, and it features two big, juicy pieces of chicken and I was so surprised that they are full of flavor. You can tell they’ve been marinated well. Honestly, the portions are so generous that I couldn’t finish the whole sandwich, which is a win for anyone with a big appetite!
Next, the unique cuttlefish ink whole chicken. I absolutely had to try it. Now, don’t be put off by the striking black color; it’s not burnt at all! The crispy cuttlefish ink batter delivers flavor, and the chicken inside is super moist and tender. I went with the Original flavor to start, but they also offer Szechuan, Cumin, Garlic, and Sweet Plum if you’re feeling adventurous. It’s a bit smaller than your average whole chicken, making it perfect for a solo feast. Plus, they provide gloves, so you can dive in without worrying about messy fingers.
I also tried the popcorn chicken, and I’m so glad I did. It was wonderfully crispy and golden. I skipped the sauces this time, but they’ve got some tasty options like Hey Chicken sauce, Honey Mustard, Sweet Chili, and Ranch if you want to dip.
The service here is super warm, friendly, and helpful. The interior is bright and inviting, with comfortable seating. While there aren't many tables, it’s clean and cozy, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal. Oh, and it’s right next to Duke Bakery, so you can treat yourself to something sweet afterward.

Read moreI love fried chicken so I was excited to try this chicken place out. Hey Chicken sounded really familiar and I realized they have a location in San Gabriel as well.
The location in Rowland Heights seems a bit smaller since the space is shared with a bakery and some photo booths but I think it's a smart way to utilize the space. From the looks of it, Hey Chicken has a lot of to-go orders. There's a few tables to sit down if you want to eat at the restaurant.
The combo specials stood out to me since the meal comes with a choice of sides and a soda. I was recommended the spicy chicken sandwich and I really enjoyed it, pretty well flavored and crispy. The popcorn chicken and fries went really well with the cumin and sweet plum dipping powder they had. I love the powder but there is a small charge on them. Onion rings are my favorite sides when it comes to fried options so I had to order it. As for the chicken wings, they were crispy on the outside, but still juicy on the inside!
So I didn't realized they had whole fried chicken on the menu but I'll definitely want to try it out next time along with the...
