From the moment you walk in you are welcomed like family. The atmosphere is like walking into your abuelita's house, with cultural mexican decor and the feeling of "home" with a hint of modern. We came in on the second opening Sunday around 3:30pm after the "church" rush and it was not full at all, which is a good thing because the place is tiny and I am a bit claustrophobic. Regarding the food, let me tell you, I would go there just for the chips and salsa every freaking day. They are homemade, and lightly seasoned to perfection, with just the right amount of crunch without sacrificing your fillings. The salsa was not spicy enough for me, but it was flavorful, delicious and definitely not store bought from New York City! I was elated when our food was brought out served on traditional Mexican platery (is that even a word??) It was so cute and added a nice touch to the overall sentiment of the place. It was also all plated very nicely, not just strewn onto the plate. The portions were perfect to get you to that "full" but not hurting point, because it's so good we could all easily get there if served any more. The husband had the green chicken enchiladas with rice and beans- again, not spicy, but VERY flavorful, authentic and definitely not canned stuff. I had the menudo- it was clean, lean, and entirely fat free- always a plus. Honestly, at first I thought it was a bit bland, but I may just be biased because I'm used to my mom's menudo, which can bring a person out of a coma. BUT if you know how to menudo, and add the right amount of cilantro, lime, onions & jalapeño chunks (that are provided with the plate) let it stew of a little bit, you will be pleasantly delighted, my opinion definitely improved as I slurped my way into menudo nirvana. We got our 2 year old the appetizer chicken quesadilla with guac- now, mind you, my kid will eat anything, but he gobbled this down like there was no tomorrow, and when your 2 year old makes satisfying "Mmmmm" sounds throughout his meal, you know it's gotta be that good. He loved the chips too if that tells you anything. When asked about dessert, I couldn't pass up on the sopapillas, and I'm glad I didn't! Again, warm (not piping hot) homemade to perfection with the perfect amount of cinnamon & sugar on top. I'm glad the hubby & kid were too busy playing to notice me gobble the 2 up by myself. Our total was under $30, which is a good deal for the quality and quantity. I love a clean establishment and Senaida's is nothing short, the floors, tables, bar, everything was spotless. Our server came to check on us and refilled our drinks but was not overbearing. The owner even came out to greet us and ask how they were doing, which is always nice to show they really care. Overall a great experience, I have not one complaint and would definitely...
Read moreThe food and service were horrible today especially the service! I usually go here on the weekends but I wanted to check out the Taco Tuesday special they had so I went today. Our server was a thicker Hispanic long hair chick and she had such a nasty attitude with us and didn't even want to serve us. We had to wait 10 minutes or more just for a drink refill and when we ask for something simple like a spoon or chips and salsa, we had to keep repeatedly asking because she doesn't stop at our table much. I was there for an hour and half and she stopped by my table twice. Also, she didn't write our order down so she kept messing up my simple order! She messed up my order the first time, so I repeated to her 2 flours and 1 corn tacos and guess what, I got 1 flour and 2 corn. -_- She seriously need to write these order down instead of keep messing up people's orders. She charged me $1 when I asked for a piece of lime for my sweet tea without even telling me it would be an extra charge. Why the hell would you charge $1 for 4 small slices of lime when the market have a whole lime for 19 cents?! How shady is she for not telling me in the first place. I found out when I got my bill. If I knew it was an extra charge, I wouldn't have gotten it. I won't be back and if I ever do come back, I'm going on the weekends because I never seen her on the weekends before which is a good thing. I regret tipping her! That's how bad the service was. The carnitas meat was really dry and old looking today and they barely give you any meat I guess because it's Taco Tuesday special. Wow Taco Tuesday was a failed today thanks to this horrible place. Don't come here on Tuesdays unless you want bad...
Read moreI had previously reviewed Senaida's and loved it. We went today, and sadly, the quality of their food has drastically changed. Their birria tacos looked and tasted like they were made with store bought taco shells, dipped in consume and grease, and refried. The sour cream chicken enchiladas were bland and tasteless, and their refried beans and rice tasted old. The chicken fajitas were barely seasoned and dry. We ordered dessert, at least, hoping for a good ending but came it up short as well. The flan was overcooked and had a scrambled egg consistency along with an overwhelming amount of cinnamon. The churros were okay, but the ice cream that accompanied it tasted like it had lime juice in the bowl. I doubt seriously we will be back. My daughter said maybe because it was mid week and they are better on weekends. I strongly disagree. Good food should be good food no matter what day it.
Decided to try a small, hole in the wall, restaurant in Rowlett called Senaida's Mexican Kitchen, and am I ever so glad we did. Some of the most delicious, authentic, made from scratch, Mexican dishes I've tasted in years!
Extremely reasonable prices, family atmosphere, nice little bar.
We tried the Birria Taco Plate, Enchiladas Rio Verde, Sopes, Chicken Fajitas, Shrimp Tacos, Jalapeno Chicken Tacos, Street Tacos Pastor and last but not least Churros with a generous side of vanilla ice cream... EVERY SINGLE DISH WAS AMAZING! Go to their website and look at their fantastic menu. They serve breakfast, too, which is next on our list! There is limited seating but so worth any wait because everything is homemade!! HIGHLY...
