Babes Ice Cream & Donuts — Restaurant in Sacramento

Possibly the best ice cream I have ever had.

I walked in expecting small scoops for kind of high prices, which is not uncommon for vegan ice creams. I am not really much of an ice cream person so it's definitely not something that bothers me to pay a lot for.

I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered a scoop of tiramisu ice cream on a cone and out came this ENORMOUS CONE OF ICE CREAM.

I haven't been able to find a place with vegan waffle cones the entire time I have been vegan. I usually just resign myself to ice crean/sorbet in a cup. So this time I splurged for the cone and.... well, it was a hot day so I had to get workin on eating it immediately!!!

The cone was well made though and contained the melting treat well. Tiramisu ice cream was sooooo good. I craved more after leaving Sacramento!

Their donuts were delicious, but I guess just less enjoyable for me than the ice cream as I am not gluten-free and love a really fluffy raised donut (something I assume is hard to accomplish in a gluten-free donut). Overall still tasty, just less than my preferred donut style.

I will have to return everytime...

Not impressed. Ordered a churro, sprinkle cake donut, a couple maple cake and some ice cream (Rocky Road/Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cookies & Cream and Strawberry). The churro was dry but the cinnamon and sugar coating it made it alright. The maples were dry and flavorless. The sprinkle was also dry but the chocolate glaze upon it helped it out enough to where it was edible. The ice cream was heavy and incredibly thick. Rocky Road/Cookie Dough might as well have been Chocolate and Vanilla because I got one almond, two marshmallows, one chocolate chip and a small piece of cookie dough out of my 2 scoops. The scoops are generous but the additions that make the flavors unique were sparse. The Cookies & Cream was okay. The Strawberry half scoop must have been okay because my 3 year old ate all but one bite. I am pretty particular about vegan ice cream, I don't like for the vegan ice cream to taste or have a texture like anything other than actual ice cream. Yes there is vegan ice cream like that but Babes did not hit those marks so I will not be returning to this...

Is it too much to ask for a pastry that doesn’t come with mystery materials?😭

I’ve tried, really. I’ve come here a few times, giving it the benefit of the doubt, hoping maybe I just hit an off day. But today was the last straw..or should I say, the last string.

A few bites into my pastry, I noticed something weird... and yep, there it was: a literal string baked into it. I don’t even know what kind of string it is...not thread, not floss, not anything that belongs in food. Just... string.

I’ve actually felt sick after eating here before (so has my mom), but brushed it off. This time, I couldn’t ignore it. I had to stop eating immediately, and just the thought of it made me nauseous. I’m still grossed out.

To be fair, the girl who helped me today was really sweet and kind. This isn’t about the staff, they were lovely. But I can’t keep rolling the dice with mystery items in my food. I even asked chat gpt what it could be...this is what it gave m(see pics).
