Probably one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. We paid the amount in full well before the booking. We called the hotel 3 different times when we were having issues with our flight into Sacramento. We called in the afternoon the day before the booking to let them know we would be checking in pretty late that night, they said no problem. Our flight was delayed by over 6 hours and we called again as soon as we found out to let them know and make sure our room was still secure. Ricky was the one we spoke to at that time and he said that they have a room audit that cancels reservations at 4am so if we don't check in by then it would be cancelled. We told him we had already paid for the room and still plan on coming, we would just be late. He said he would "check us in" over the phone so that it wouldn't be cancelled and assured us we would still have the room. When we were just about to take off on the new flight, we called again to make sure that the booking hadn't been cancelled. The woman on the phone said that it WAS cancelled and none of her coworkers had let her know about us calling earlier. She told us she would reinstate it for us and that we will still have our room when we arrive. After an extremely long night we were happy to finally get to the hotel to rest. When we tried to check in - wouldn't you know it -they had CANCELLED the booking. Absolutely no communication between the employees. The only reason I'm not giving this location 1 star is because the woman at the front desk that morning was able to call around and get it figured out so we could still check into a room. The best part was, Ricky was also working at the desk that morning and when another person came in having had the same issue with his flight and was looking to check in a day late after speaking to him on the phone the night before, Ricky simply handed him a key to a room without anything being cancelled. The first night in the hotel was absolutely awful! The hotel turned out to be in a really bad location with homeless people all around the corners and in the parking lot. The ENTIRE night there were people high out of their minds screaming, fighting, and slamming things right outside our room. We felt extremely unsafe and barely got any sleep that night. The next morning some folks complained at the front desk about the ruckus, saying they had called the front desk at 3am as they didn't feel safe to come out of their rooms and no one answered the phones. Ricky simply said "we have a security guard". Security must have been asleep somewhere else or just didn't care to do anything. We put a chair in front of the door and wrapped a cord around the door for some extra security. Luckily there wasn't any fighting for the rest of the stay, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. The rooms were okay, it's nice that they are ADA compliant but there is absolutely nowhere to put your things - no shelves or drawers. The shower got clogged and flooded the entire bathroom since there is no border between the shower and the rest of the room. The continental breakfast was okay, though the "eggs" and "sausage" come from a box in the pantry and are simply put into a steamer to warm up. I really wouldn't come here, its not safe to walk around at night and the staff do not care or communicate with each other.

Modern renovations and a friendlier staff has put the Midtowner on my list of preferred motels in Sacramento. The location is ideal, right at the junction of the 50/99/I-5/and I-80, just blocks from where midtown and downtown converge. They share a parking lot with an iHop and there are many other interesting dining options within close walking distance. I checked in with Mahul who was very kind and accommodating. Perhaps most notable is that the Midtowner could have justified raising their rates but chose to remain budget-friendly; for this and the good attitude of the staff, they have earned my repeat business.

I stayed here for a work trip. I was initially concerned after reading some negative reviews, but my experience here was great. The room was comfortable, and the service was excellent. I had a late-night flight and needed a place to stay until closer to my departure. The latest check-out time was 2 pm, which wouldn’t have worked for me, so Tosha at the reception helped me book an additional night so I could check out at 8 pm and provided a note for my employer to justify the extra stay. Her thoughtfulness and flexibility made my stay much more comfortable. Thank you Tosha!

I would love to give this place 5 stars and that’s what I thought upon checking in a week ago. Of course when I drove in I saw homeless, crackpipes on the ground, sex workers conducting business in the ‘covered parking’ corners etc, but this isn’t a nice area and this is a cheap motel. However, cheap or not…this place is awful on customer service and housekeeping!! I have been here 7 days and have asked for housekeeping almost everyday…only to get handed towels at the door that are still dirty!! We had housekeeping come in Tuesday after checking in Sunday and again, all we got were some dirty towels I had to turn back in for more. Not even the sink or shower or floor was swept not even fresh coffee cups etc. Now that it has been a week we finally got full housekeeping as the woman who owns the place and lives here (in the rooms next to ours that housekeeping is constantly cleaning the owner hallway) BUT NOT our room, we still did not get clean bedding!! It’s a couple sheets some crappy pillows and a thin blanket between the sheets! You can’t even give us clean bedding we’ve been here a week?!! THE SHEETS THEY PUT ON SMELL WORSE THAN OUR WEEK OLDS!! I told her I was here for medical reasons and even gave her my UC Davis eye institute doctor information for her mother and she told me she and ‘we judge people’ so I got the ‘nice’ owner hallway due to medical reasons BUT I can’t get a clean room?!!! I even called down yesterday afternoon and the husband says ‘maybe we can clean your room tomorrow’. We have been quiet, clean(myself cleaning the room!), we go to bed early and I’m here on medical appointments also for pulmonology (so if your allergic to mold which I know for a fact is illegal in CA stay away from the ‘owner hallway’ rooms and the indoor stairs and this place as a whole) Also, if you want clean sheets go somewhere else!! We’ve been asking for a week!! I dealt with the crack pipe, the hookers conducting business in the corners of the parking garage(pants down in the corner!) and the constant having to ask for clean towels but after ending up in Sutter for mold exposure last night and still after 7 nights I still can’t get clean sheets and a clean room!! Please do not stay here!! And I’m next door to the owners! Yes I judge too and I see you all getting clean rooms and sheets and towels everyday and I even shared my doctor info with you for your mother!!! Look up what this place used to be as they still use the same WiFi and basically they just painted over the mold and did a shitty remodel. We have half a shower…they didn’t even finish the remodel in this room and the shower head is very low flow so plan for really bad hair days and the shower is missing a door…so the bathroom floor gets soaked and you need about 3 towels just to keep from flooding the room!! Also the curtains broken and the windows we couldn’t get them open then the owners husband opened one but we can’t get it closed and good luck asking for help as the female owner said ‘we judge people’ and they do, they come in your room and admit they’re judging you…so because I have bags of nebulizer equipment and I’m partially blind and disabled means you can treat us like this? I still have 20/20 with glasses on lady and this place is dirty, definitely did not get a contractor with permits and if you did you got totally screwed and test for mold!! DO NOT...

I had a terrible experience. First, the receptionist spoke to me like a child, making prejudiced assumptions about me. She placed me in the worst possible room—behind a wall where the Wi-Fi didn’t work, the TV remote was faulty, and the heater made a lot of noise. When I asked to change rooms, she claimed the hotel was fully booked, only to later contradict herself by saying the cleaners were still preparing other rooms. When I offered to speak to the cleaner myself, she acted as if she had the right to tell me what to do, even though I’m old enough to be her father. She insisted that I wasn’t allowed to speak to the cleaner, which I found completely inappropriate.

She also assumed I didn’t speak Spanish, but I still went ahead and spoke to the cleaner. Even after that, I remained in the original room. She then left her office to speak to the cleaners directly, making me feel even more uncomfortable. On top of that, she questioned why I had booked a room with two queen beds instead of one. When I told her it was none of her business, she started insisting that extra guests would need to provide ID—something I had never encountered in any other hotel in such an intrusive manner. She also only gave me one key, whereas in every other hotel I’ve stayed at, I’ve always received two.

It am all about following the rules—I respect hotel policies—but the way she questioned and spoke to me was clearly meant to put me down. To make matters worse, I noticed some suspicious local individuals seemingly watching me until the middle of the night, which felt very unsettling. I’m considering escalating this issue to HR because her discriminatory and prejudiced behaviour should not be allowed...
