I Shanghai Delight was such a fun and unique experience because it offered dishes I don’t usually see on Sacramento menus. Located in Old Sacramento, the restaurant feels like a hidden spot, and stepping inside, you immediately get the sense that this is where locals go for something truly different. I ordered the xiao long bao (soup dumplings), and they were outstanding - perfectly delicate wrappers filled with rich, flavorful broth and tender pork. Each bite was an explosion of flavor, and I couldn’t stop raving about them. I also tried one of their noodle dishes, and it was just as impressive: chewy noodles with a sauce that was savory, slightly sweet, and incredibly satisfying. The portions were generous, and the staff were friendly and quick to offer suggestions when I asked. What I appreciated most was that the menu felt adventurous - it gave me the chance to try authentic Shanghai-style flavors without having to travel halfway across the world. It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you want to bring a group of friends so you can sample as much as possible. I Shanghai Delight is truly one of Sacramento’s...
Read moreMy parents are from Shanghai so I grew up on this style of food. It’s the real thing. Everything was good. Xiao Long Bao. Spicy beef noodle soup. Braised greens with black mushrooms. Rice soup with vegetable and shredded pork. Deep fried pork chop. We ordered too much but we finished everything because it would have been a shame to waste anything.
Looks like they took over a prior bar space so the entry is a bit odd with the downstairs with little to see nice inside. Don’t worry about the decor when it’s the food that you should be there for. There are very interesting historical photos of Shanghai likely 1920’s-1930’s with modern Shanghai pictures interspersed.
The gentleman doing everything unfortunately doesn’t speak much English but we did fine ordering and got a great meal.
Most of the negative comments are from people not there for Shanghai food. But if you want Shanghai Chinese food this is...
Read moreCraving for some Chinese food close to our hotel, this place was right across the street so it was perfect for my wife and I. It wasn’t too busy on a Friday night, the food was tasty and hit the spot, but our server (a young Asian guy) didn’t seem too happy serving. First, we had to ask for water (twice) because we weren’t offered or given any. Second, we didn’t get any napkins except for one that came with our chopsticks, so we had to tear that one in half and share it. We asked him later for napkins, which he glumly gave us some. And last, when he gave our bill (which we paid by card), we only got one receipt which showed our items so we just signed that. Upon leaving, he chased us down saying we didn’t sign the right receipt. Well, that was the only one he gave us. When he realized his mistake, he said we were good. Sorry to say, that kid needs to...
