Loved it!
Let's start with my family and I went there during Ocktoberfest. The lederhosen was in full effect...Everywhere! Keep in mind this is a Czech place. It was kinda cool still though.
I heard a lot of praise for this place so I was naturally very interested. I saw that they had a picture of stroganoff on their yelp so I naturally yearned for that. Unfortunately that is a seasonal dish.
A little bummed out, the server offered a dish that wasn't on the menu, LIQUID BACON. He mentioned that it would be similar to stroganoff so I gave it a shot. Well, it's not anything like stroganoff but it was good. It was a pork fillet covered in melted cheese sprinkled with herbs, I ordered it with pasta and it came with asparagus wrapped in pancetta. It was delicious and very filling.
All of the dishes come in a metal baking pan sitting on top of a wood cutting board. Its a fun presentation and all the servings were very large. Definitely more than 1 serving. They serve their dishes with fresh bread as well. We all ordered main entrees which were all very meat focused. They have several pasta dishes, soups, salads and appetizers. We tried out the potato pancakes and that was a really nice treat. I topped it off with one of their czech beers and it was an amazing cultural dining experience.
I would definitely recommend it but if you do go, it is a smaller place and it gets quite busy and loud, just a FYI. However with the great service and Czech dishes they offer it is well worth your time to go...
Read moreI’ve been wanting to try La Trattoria Bohemia for a while and my craving for pasta made it the perfect day to go!
First off, I love going to private chef-owned restaurants, you just now they’re going to put everything they got into it.
The place has got a cool and euro-art deco-ish decor and feel inside.
The soft 80’s playing in the background with Simply Red‘s Holding Back The Years and Prince’s Nothing Compares 2U just wrapped it all up nicely.
I started with some bread and dipping sauce, nothing out of the ordinary on the menu with garlic, olive oil however when it arrived topped with a pile of fresh chopped basil, that changed the game.
The three sourdough slices I had layered with all that was amazing!
My entrée was the homemade meat ravioli sauce baked casserole-style with fresh mozzarella cheese.
It didn’t disappoint, the fresh pasta and sauce was delicious!
In chatting with my friendly server Norma, I complimented her on everything and she asked if I’d like to meet the owner…how could I turn that down?
Great conversation with Marco! He came here from Czechoslovakia, had experience cooking Italian food with aspirations of opening a Czech restaurant however didn’t feel he could sell that alone as a cuisine so he combined it with Italian food and here they are, 22 years later!
I’m definitely coming back to try to Czech cuisine side of the menu, I highly recommend you tried as...
Read moreThe exterior of the building has a lot of old town brick character, especially with the aging painted side. Inside, it's much more different, taking on a more contemporary look while not compromising on the European vibe.
We ordered a pork picate and a schnitzel and both were really exceptional. I've had many schnitzels before, and this one was amongst the best. It was lightly breaded, lightly fried, and didn't have too much fight when cutting through. It was complemented well with the side of potato salad, which served as a cooling agent. The pork picate was the star of the show, especially due to its white wine and caper notes. It tasted unusual at first, but I soon learned that I really liked that flavor profile. It was quite different and is a definite must for a revisit
The service is really great, and the staff is quite attentive. The best wearing is right at the window or in the patio area itself, especially when weather is permitting. Parking can be a bit of a hassle if street parking isn't readily available, as the residential streets have really weird hours for people who are visiting.
One thing that I wish I had done was try out their desserts, but we were so full by the end of it that any additional food would have been more than a top off. Either way, this East Sac gem will be visited...
