When I was first introducing myself to Sacramento I came across this restaurant a lot and at first it look like there's a coffee joint a lot of people were kind of gathering at the front door. This day I actually went inside of it and I found out that it was a Mexican restaurant it's been a Mexican restaurant all these years I never realized that I thought it was just a coffee shop. Well I had some coffee looked at the menu. The prices were kind of high but the words I was looking for were chalupa or breakfast burrito or taco. And maybe see some pictures of the itens. I really want to see what it look like to have a taco, because I Know, I know, I'm used to Taco Bell Taco, where it is a regular size taco, that is the size of your hand, and you actually eat it, which actually fills you up. I remembered from my first experience at a vaccine restaurant when I ordered taco that authentic Mexican taco is a small corn shell, laidflat on which is the ground beef please and sour cream. Best taco literally six in the center of your palm and in no way does it look like it will even fill up a child. Well I saw I took open after f he knows but the Taco Bell chalupa flipped cream look like and he started telling me we don't really talk about who I told her what I wanted the chalupa to leave him love sour cream and chicken and cheese. I was expecting something to look like a breakfast burrito. Well it came out and I smelled sour dough bread and the rapping did not look like anything okay flower show tortilla that I am so common scene when you go to the store and get the tortilla shells that come in packs of 20 or 30. But when you came by after what kind of Michelle is this and she said it was flour and I thought oh I swear cuz it smells like a sour dough but she told me that was flour. I asked her to bring me some ketchup and I started to eat the chalupa but the lettuce and tomatoes were in a side dish. The coffee was actually good. When I saw the final price, I was surprised, $18 for this?!!! Pictures of only was eight dollars right? The coffee worth 3 hours and 50 cents that came a last cut it was maybe a small coffee. And no creamer and the sugar that they bought me I had to you sweet and low, do I look like I need a that here? I only weigh 125 lb at the most $130 ever! I don't know anybody else that can wear a size 28 waist 30 length pants! Around here, are size 36, 40, or up Waist... In every clothing Department you go to, is very rare to see any chance that are below 36 waist so I guess a lot of people up here and...
Read moreBack (way back) when I was in college, my buddy, Hector, once promised to take me to lunch for the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. My grandmother made the best Mexican food I've ever eaten, and Hector knew that, so I figured that, while the place he had in mind would probably fall short of my grandmother's perfection, it could still possibly achieve excellence. I had no idea what to expect when we pulled up to a private residence somewhere around 20th and D Streets downtown, interred it's large screened-in front porch, and walked up to the front door, a half door, and placed our order. I could actually see who I assumed was Arturo and Efrain Vallejo's mom cooking up our order in her kitchen. That was my first experience with the Vallejo's cuisine, and, while it wasn't exactly my grandma's cooking, it was obviously someone's grandma's cooking, and it was the best I've ever experienced away from my own home. Over the years, I followed the Vallejo brothers as they opened their first restaurant on 14th and O, and to their other downtown locations, each of which managed to maintain the high quality of my first experience eating in their front porch. Not much has changed since that time. Order anything on the menu, and you'll find it worthy of a Michelin star or three. My personal favorite Vallejo's treat is their nachos platter. I enjoy mine with they're famous carnitas. The dish can easily feed a family of four. I am an eater, and even when accompanied by someone who can match me bite for bite, I still go home with enough for lunch the next day in a box. With beans, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, chips, sour cream, guacamole, and, of course, the meat, all topped with the little cilantro, this dish is a full meal on a platter. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. I've never had anything but the finest service, though I usually ask for the same waitress whenever I visit. I could continue, but, scrolling up, I realized I've already written too much. This restaurant has my highest...
Read more2nd time going to restaurant. Service and food was absolutely wonderful. 5 of us attended and bill came out to $120.10. Everything was wonderful but waitress collected tip from table before we even left. My mom left a $6 tip. We know it was on the low side, but not because we were being stingy or rude. Just because we spent a little more than we thought we would. However, the waitress and owner made a big stink about it. They actually confronted us about it. And said that the tip was supposed to be more than what was left. We tried to explain that unfortunately that was all we had left at the moment. They made faces and made us feel very uncomfortable. My mom actually got an upset stomach after how they made her feel. Who does that? I know sometimes servers get less than they should, but to confront the customer, who in reality just didn't have more to give at the time. Now I feel that the $6 she did get was definitely more than she should have gotten. Especially with that attitude. After we got back to our hotel, we pulled up the menu and added everything up. After all meals and drinks, the bill was just around $80. So, I was trying to figure out how it came to a total of $120. Did they charge for refills? which actually the owner kept coming and taking glasses when they were just half way done, plus, we found a spot on the menu where it says they charge for an extra plate/sharing. We didn't get an extra plate, but my mom did put some of her nachos on my daughters plate. Did we get charged for sharing? We then added for each refill and even added the sharing. Still was at about $110. I honestly think they overcharged us or added a gratuity charge and then still made a big deal about the tip. I will NOT go back there. Great food, but I have NEVER seen or been subject to being confronted, in front of other customers, about tip being too little. That was a big turn off!!!!! Really sad display and not professional at all. I gave 1 star just because...
