Outstanding Experience from Start to Finish Sunset Grill absolutely exceeded our expectations in every way possible. From the moment we walked in with our family, including two small toddlers, we knew we were in for something special. Exceptional Customer Service The service at Sunset Grill is truly top-notch. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely seemed to care about making our dining experience memorable. What impressed us most was how naturally accommodating they were with our two toddlers - providing high chairs immediately, offering kid-friendly options, and showing patience with the inevitable chaos that comes with dining out with little ones. Management That Cares Throughout our meal, we noticed management actively checking on tables and ensuring everything was running smoothly. They stopped by our table personally to make sure we were satisfied, which is a level of attention you rarely see these days. It's clear they take pride in their restaurant and genuinely care about their guests' experience. Great Food Worth the Wait While there was a short wait to be seated, it was completely reasonable and gave us time to appreciate the welcoming atmosphere. Once our food arrived, we understood why this place has such a following - every dish was expertly prepared and delicious. Each family member found something they loved, and the quality was consistent across all our orders.

Perfect Atmosphere The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between casual and refined. It's upscale enough to feel special but relaxed enough that we never felt stressed about our toddlers potentially being disruptive. The atmosphere contributed to what became a truly enjoyable family meal.

Family-Friendly Excellence What sets Sunset Grill apart is how genuinely family-friendly they are. This isn't just tolerance for children - it's active accommodation and warmth. The staff made our toddlers feel welcome, which allowed us parents to actually relax and enjoy our meal.

Final Thoughts Sunset Grill is a gem that delivers on all fronts: exceptional food, outstanding service, attentive management, and a welcoming atmosphere for families. The short wait time was completely worth it, and we left feeling like valued guests rather than just another table.

Would I return? Absolutely, and we're already planning our next visit.

Recommendation: Perfect for families, date nights, or any occasion where you want great food with service that makes you feel...

So this trip was disappointing. Let me start by saying we have been here a few times and have always loved the food here but today was definitely below the expectation.

We started off with the mixed fish bites, which are always great and I love the tartar sauce it comes with. We even ordered the smoked mahi and salmon dip...again, another great app. However our meals and drinks were definitely sub par.

I got the ultimate margarita, a fave of mine, and it was more lime juice than tequila to be charged $13 a glass. My hubby's blood mary's were more tomato juice than vodka.

The hubby got datil shrimp with red beans and rice. The sauce with the red beans and rice was good but the shrimp were not peeled, chewy, and still had the veins in it. The sauce was definitely NOT spicey at all as would be expected of a dish that states there is datil in it.

I ordered the blackend grouper with a sweet potato and collards. The grouper was cooked perfectly and I loved the sauce but the shrimp in the sauce was disgusting and mushy. The sweet potato was good, maybe needed a bit of butter, but definitely not appetizing when the pack of brown sugar is tossed on the plate. Now to the collards...a true staple of the south. Whoever is making the collards, please get some love in your life. Those were the most bitter, uncooked and over sweetened collards I have ever had. No salt,no pepper, no worschestershire sauce, no red pepper flakes, no season salt...bitter bitter bitter like your heart.

My daughter ordered some chicken fiesta bowl and to be honest it looked good but I didn't try it.

The peanut butter pie is amazing with just the right amount of peanut butter and chocolate. The key lime pie is ok but taste more like sweetened cobdensed milk than key lime.

Our server Justin was great. He checked in on us regularly. And no we didn't tell him the issue with the food because that is in no way his fault that the main meals were not great.

We don't come over to A1A often but when we do, I always come to Sunset because of the food here. Might be a while before we come...

We were visiting SA Beach for the holiday weekend and having dined here before, we were anxious to return. Of course it was busy on New Year's eve and we were told upstairs it would be about a 1.5 hour wait, OR we could go downstairs and do FCFS at the hightop tables near the bar. What great advice! A minute after we went downstairs we saw a couple leaving and snatched our spot. 👍

From then on the service by our waitress Abby was quick and courteous despite the busy night! She was attentive during our hour long dining.

We started off the evening with cocktails (mine the delicious Key Lime martini and hubs got a beer and a shot of Fireball.)

Then our Ahi tuna appetizer arrived pretty quickly thereafter. It was well plated and delicious. Comes over an Asian slaw, seaweed salad, and a wonderful soy based dipping sauce. Management came by and gifted us two bottle coozies which we used later in the night. 👍

I ordered the seafood combo grilled, triggerfish and shrimp, with sides of baked sweet potato, and coleslaw. Hubby ordered the grouper with a creamed shrimp sauce, baked potato and green beans, but they also accidentally gave him coleslaw which was fortunately more for my take home box.

Both meals were delicious however hubby's grouper was a tad overcooked, but it didn't stop him from devouring the whole thing. Mine was perfection, and there was plenty left for another meal later.

The only downside to dining this evening was in using the restrooms. It was apparent that they were being heavily used, (especially the ladies room) and not being kept up throughout. It was also a social distancing nightmare as the space was really too small for the three stalls and three people to wash and dry hands. That being said, it was an atypical night.

Would definitely recommend dining here to anyone who wants delicious food and drinks, with excellent service! We...

Don't be fooled by this 5 🌟 review this place deserved even more. First it's a great location with just enough parking. Next it has a choice of 4 seating areas all with different wait times. Outside, Inside by the Bar, Inside restaurant and Upstairs outside...we chose inside as the wait was only 5 minutes with the rest being 30+ minutes. We were sat at a great table that allowed us a view of the eating area and how the wait staff, servers and bus boys worked as well as how long guests waited for service and meals. We ordered appetizers as our meal. I a cup of the Crab & Artichoke Bisque and Bill Minorcan Conch Chowder $4.99 each and fantastic and a BIG 5 🌟. Next Fresh Fish Bites (12 for $10.99) which was small for the price but still 5 🌟. Sunset Datil wings ($11.99 for 10) gave us HUGE Drumlets and 3 side dipping sauces with Celery Sticks and Blue Cheese 5 🌟. The next was Brussel Sprouts..if you like Sprouts this is an outstanding offering 5+ 🌟. This huge bowl is a mix of Sprouts, Pecans, Raisins, Cranberries, Bacon bits and Feta Cheese well worth the $9.99 charge. Jackie was our server and she too did an exceptional job as did all the servers and staff. Not one table waited long for delivery of their meals and each plate was large and worthy of the price with HUGE Kudos to an unbelievable kitchen staff. As we were leaving Bill noticed a table that was served Ahi Tuna App ($14.99) which was the largest he had ever seen...asking the Guest she Raved about the quality...I know what Bill will order the next time when we return.

OVERRATED first off this place is very popular for some reason with a tiny parking area and parking is a pain to find. The upstairs and downstairs are treated like two separate restaurants and you need to have a different reservation for each. The downstairs host area is a tiny clusterf**k, packed with the host stand, the restrooms, benches full of people waiting, and is the entry to the restaurant. They need to reorganize this area. The decor and atmosphere of this place is very dated and shabby, they need to hire a professional decorator. The food is presented in an unappetizing manner. Not in a professional or appealing way. Just slapped onto the plate. We ordered the small Crabby fries for $8 which came with very little "awarding winning" chowder. From what I could taste the chowder was okay but it didn't taste like "award winning" quality to me. I had the nastiest dish I have ever eaten in my life. "Nina's Toast". It was basically fried shrimp on top of french toast with a side of syrup, aioli & pickled radishes and cucumbers. Syrup and shrimp do not go together. This dish had rave reviews but I don't see why. Our waitress was nice and the staff was friendly. At the end we paid $80 for our meal, for two people. Overpriced for what it was. To me this is just another overrated tourist trap and I won't be back.
