Edited to add (end of review/response to manager).Upon check-in, the lobby smelled of mildew; staff was super friendly! I was assigned room 107 (pet friendly). I didn't mind the first floor, as it made it a bit easier with a kid & pet in tow for loading & unloading bags; even though I typically prefer top level when the room is street access. I entered the room & was hit with an overwhelming smell of mildew/mold followed by cleaning supplies. At the room's entry there was a large bubble on the ceiling (water damage). I immediately informed the office staff and they inspected the area & confirmed that it was water damage but ensured me it was taken care of and that I'd have no problems. Okay, cool. Once in the room & situated, the smell dissipated, or rather, you got used to it. Shame on me for not pressing them to move my room right then & there, because things only got worse (& quite frankly, I'm allergic to mold and mildew, but it didn't linger long enough (or we weren't in the room long enough) to feel any way about this, immediately). What's the worst that could happen in an evening of sleep, right? Wrong. So wrong. My daughter (10) couldn't smell the mildew at all, so I chucked it up to my often overly sensitive nose. The hotel is walking distance to the beach (major plus), & we'd spent a lot of time on the beach or in their pool. We did a little sight-seeing, as it was close too,& returned to the room around 830PM. We showered, & went to sleep around 11PM. At about 1:15AM I was awakened by the awful stench of mildew. It literally jolted me from my sleep. I hear the sound of what appeared to be a dripping faucet only to walk into a flooded bathroom. The hotel towels and wash cloths soaked up the mess & caught what continued to drip for the next hour & a half. I immediately called the front desk. The woman who answered was very kind, & called up to the people on top of me & asked them to shut their bathroom valves off (which they hadn't used as they were reportedly sleeping too.) I then received a call back from the front desk where I was initially only offered the lobby bathroom (because the leak was coming from above the toilet & sink, making either unusable). I respectfully declined. Only then did she follow that offer with the offer of a new room. Call me crazy, but this was also declined, and let me explain why: It was nearly 2AM, I'd already been awake since about 1:15AM, I had to be up by 5:45AM, my daughter was sound asleep, & my dog was too. Waking either of them likely meant they both would have been up the remainder of the morning, & my daughter had school first thing (around 8AM, hence my early wake up & check out time, so we could arrive timely). We'd also already taken the extra COVID-safety precaution of sanitizing & cleaning the room upon our arrival (lysol, Clorox wipes, Microban, etc.,) I would've had to do this to the new room that we'd only be housed in for 2-3 hours before checking out. It didn't make sense. When I checked out at around 6:45AM, the woman I spoke with at 1:15AM was still there & apologized profusely for the inconvenience, to which I accepted & explained that things do happen & it wasn't her fault in the least bit. I asked how to speak with someone about the experience (a manager, corporate, or whomever), she suggested that I wait until the morning to talk to the manager. The manager, Jody immediately issued a refund for the price of the room (less my pet fee ($30)) because he said "corporate wouldn't allow him to refund an incidental fee", which corporate indicated was at the hotel's discretion NOT corporate. ETA: I understand 'policies,' & wholeheartedly appreciate the immediate "full" refund; however, I should not be made to pay an incidental pet fee when my pet didn't cause a single incident within that room. I also would have gladly accepted a change of room if offered at my 4PM check in & initial complaint, not at 2AM 3 hours prior to waking up, and 4 prior to...
Read moreMy wife and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Best Western St. Augustine Beach Inn, and we were both thoroughly impressed with our experience. From the moment we arrived until our departure, the hotel staff ensured that our stay was nothing short of exceptional. We were particularly touched by a kind gesture from the night staff that made our stay even more memorable.
During our stay, we encountered a light sprinkle on one evening when we were planning to take a romantic walk along the beach. We approached the front desk and spoke to a member of the night staff, whose name escapes me, to inquire about borrowing an umbrella. To our delight, they not only graciously provided us with an umbrella but also offered helpful directions to the nearest beach entrance.
This small act of kindness allowed us to enjoy a cozy and romantic stroll along the beautiful St. Augustine Beach, even in the light rain. It was a testament to the exceptional service and genuine care that the hotel staff extends to their guests. We truly appreciated their willingness to go above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction.
In addition to this remarkable act, the Best Western St. Augustine Beach Inn provided us with a delightful and comfortable stay. The rooms were clean, well-appointed, and provided a peaceful haven after a day of exploring the city. The hotel's location was ideal, with easy access to the beach and other attractions in St. Augustine. We enjoyed starting our days with a delicious breakfast, which offered a variety of options to suit our preferences.
The hotel staff, including the night staff, consistently exhibited professionalism, warmth, and a genuine desire to make our stay unforgettable. They were always available to assist with any inquiries or requests, offering valuable recommendations for local dining and activities. Their friendly demeanor and attentive service contributed greatly to the welcoming atmosphere of the hotel.
Overall, our stay at the Best Western St. Augustine Beach Inn surpassed our expectations, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow travelers. The night staff's gesture of providing us with an umbrella for our evening walk in the rain was just one example of the exceptional service we received throughout our stay. With comfortable accommodations, a convenient location, and a staff that genuinely cares about their guests, this hotel is a true gem in St. Augustine. We look forward to returning for another unforgettable stay with them...
Read moreI saw reviews of both kinds in here and was skeptical….well. Drove all the way out from Wyoming been in my car a whiiile. It has also taken about 3 grand just to GET HERE. Was supposed to have a time share once here. It was messed up. I came in after a ten hour drive, half hour phone argument, shaking angry, probably looking like a dang crackhead and yet. The woman at the desk was super calm and collected. She sorta looked at me funny, but eventually I spoke up and apologized for my demeanor. She relaxed and told me what rooms I could snag. Everywhere else around here wanted almost $300 per night because I have a small dog. This place?!? No. MORE than affordable for being right on the beach! Clean!!! These crazy comments must be from folks who have never had to stay anywhere less than top notch! No joke, because I don’t settle for just anything, yet, I also refuse to over pay for just HOURS~ that is all this is if it is unplanned like mine!
My dog is with me and safe. My car is right outside of my door. I didn’t even have to unload on stairs or an elevator. I can walk to the beach from here if I want. WITH my dog. Everyone loves her along the way! Also includes all attractions along the main street right outside my door. This is PERFECT. Yes, there is some sort of permanent something on the counter. Looks and feels like caulk! 🤣 No harm there! Cleans up just fine, but we who have done it understand that fingerprint layer. It isn’t DIRTY though. This place is sparkling!
I was running late this am which is really ridiculous as they include breakfast from 6am until 10am. Check out at 11. I got there like 10:08. The juice machine was off, but I asked the guy in charge if I could just get even a sip before I left for the day… he very considerably walked over and turned it back on. I snagged some OJ and was ever so grateful! 🤗
This place is gorgeous. Affordable. Clean. On the beach basically, less than 4 full blocks walk. Best desk folks EVER canNOT express that enough!!! Just these bad comments?!? I really do not understand. I mean, I haven’t even seen a palm meadow bug or anything YET! Been here two nights and staying till Sunday now because I am so cozy here! Love this lil getaway and the...
