What a great new bar, and what a fabulous addition to St. Augustine! I'm the kinda guy who always wants to try the local beer. I've been following the development of St. Augustine's newest (and best) brewery for months now, but it was definitely worth the wait. The owner has been brewing longer than anyone else in St. Aug, as he was the brewer for A1A Aleworks for more than 15 years. When they closed their brewery a lot of locals were really disappointed. But no longer! What is great about Dog Rose is the attention to detail--not just with the beer, but with the whole bar. The layout is great and I love that you can get right up next to the vats and equipment to watch the brewers at work. The wooden bar top is beautiful and speaks to real craftmanship, as do the tables and chairs. All top quality stuff! I haven't played shuffleboard in a bar in years and forgot how much fun it was. There's darts too, and one big tv for watching the games. Even the artwork on the walls is perfect--bold and beautiful pieces, with a focus on live music posters for shows in St. Augustine that supposedly the owners have all attended. The men's room art is hilarious, and my lady friends say the same about their restroom. It is a huge place with plenty of room but it still somehow feels cozy. So much care and thought went in to making this a place that you can really relax and hang with friends. It really is just that kind of place. Of course all of of this might not matter a bit if the beer wasn't up to par, but rest assured, it is top notch. They had a red ale, light lager, pale ale, IPA, and two stouts, one brewed with cold-pressed espresso beans! Newbies and beer snobs alike will find something to love. I tried one of each on their opening night and I keep on changing my mind as to which is my favorite! In short, whether you are a local or visitor, you need to come check out Dog Rose Brewing Company. You won't be...
Read moreNot into craft beer so much, mostly so, though; because most places just don't get it right. Dog Rose Brewing gets it right. Wonderfully delicious beers here in a nice, clean, modern space. You can totally taste the difference, quality beer here.
Used to be 27 bars within a thousand paces of campus, at least that's the rumor when I was living here. Just sayin' - where were you when man? Lol
Seems like everyone and anyone with a few bucks these days is opening up a "craft" brewery here, there, and everywhere. I don't get it, well I do. The money. Lots of over-priced under-poured skunky, tangy, chemically flavored masked or heavily fruited beers and ciders out there. Too many. You really never know what you're going to get. There's so many science projects out there, it's really making cheap commercial beer look good. Thank's for not being that. Cheers!!
Can count on one hand the breweries I like, this is...
Read moreFor some reason I thought I had written a review on Dog Rose Brewing Co. and I realized I had not, which bothered me, as how much I enjoy everything about this place.
To start with, let’s talk about the people doing the work to keep this place running and handling a packed house with grace. They are all the salt of the earth in my experiences which has probably numbered 20 visits by now. Special call out to Brooke, Tyler, and Decker!!
Now let’s talk about the beer. Pretty much ranks on the top of my list of craft beer breweries and I have been to a few.
And then there is the live music. One random night I decided to sneak in for a quick beer and Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd fame was playing with a full team of percussionists and A level musicians. What a treat!
So yeah, if you are in St. Augustine and looking for a full experience, Dog Rose is a...
