Spinster Abbott's Bodega and Tap Room — Restaurant in Saint Augustine

Every week or so, we walk downtown and end up at Spinsters for a refreshment. Today, it started bad: when my husband went in to order, he casually said how are you today…she replied, not good…it went downhill from there. He ordered a beer and a Prosecco for me. The Prosecco was flat. I’ve had this experience before when the charge is low - it comes out bubbly but doesn’t hold. So, it seemed fair to take it back. The server said it was bubbly when it came out (it would be, as I said, when the charge is low). To demonstrate she poured some in a new glass - yes, it was bubbly on the way out, then died, as it will when the charge is low. I asked for a non-alcohol drink - you don’t carry any. I asked for a refund (at my age, if I’ve paid $8 for a drink, I expect it to be drinkable) but apparently your cash system doesn’t allow refunds….finally, I just got a glass of water. But when I got back outside, my husband had had enough and went in to ask again for a refund. She said not possible and when my husband said we wouldn’t be back, she said “good, I don’t want you back, I just wasted $16 of Prosecco”! Well, since I didn’t get a refund and she didn’t pull a full demo glass, she’s likely out $4 max… So, sadly, we won’t be back. And we won’t be picking up a few things in the store after we have a drink. And we’ll let others know, the way people do. I had stopped in a few days ago to check out the cute shop inside. Lots of great, local items! The cashier informed us that there was a “speakeasy” in the back and showed us what it looked like.

We went back last night to try out the bar and we loved it! They offer beer, wine, cocktails in cans, pie, and snacks! It’s eclectic and warm in the bar area, featuring a cute play area for kids and (a soon to be ready!) outdoor area with a new food truck!

Great place to show off to visiting friends, makes you feel like a local even if you aren’t. We ordered the Conagree and Penn Cider and Prosecco, both were awesome.
