Charter 18 Modern Tavern — Restaurant in Saint Charles

I had a lovely experience here dining solo at the bar. Service was fantastic. Everyone behind the bar checked on me and assisted me at least once. Their specially cocktails were crafted incredibly, even with my requested changes. All the food i ordered, seated and to go, was REALLY good... Except for the coconut shrimp. The only reason for my 1 star deduction. Pretty pricey for 3 pieces and they were so overcooked i struggled to remove the tail and couldn't cut through them with a fork. I had to literally saw through those hard guys with my butter knife. Needless to say i didn't even want to finish them. The presentation and flavor was good though...spicy! The clam chowder was excellent with the bacon and scallions. Almost like a loaded potato soup but with clams, and there was a generous amount of clams. The flatbread was a unique combination and really good... Even the next day. The wings were crispy and tender and prepared well. The ranch seemed to be homemade, and almost had a bit of a spinach dip flavor twist to it (with no spinach, lol). It was good!

Ultimately a great experience and I hope to return to try more...

I ordered a waygu cheesesteak and it came out cold. The manager did make me a new one and took it...
