I absolutely love Black Bear Diner. Over the years, my family and I have dined here in a few different states. When on vacation, we always chose to eat here over the other predictable chains, because we know the quality of food is great, the food options are plentiful, and the portion sizes are satisfying. Speaking of portion sizes… OMG, they are huge. The amount of food you received here is well worth the cost, and you will definitely walk away stuffed and satisfied that you got every bite of your money’s worth. For the kiddos, they definitely have something for even the pickiest of kids. There are also options for vegans, vegetarians, as well as meat lovers. On our visit, we arrive on a Sunday around 4pm. There were only a few other diners there when we walked in. We were quickly greeted and sat at a booth. Our server was friendly, welcoming, and prompt to take our order. The food arrived hot, fresh, and was fantastic as usual. For the most part, the restaurant and bathrooms were pretty clean. The carpet really needed to be swept, but I’m sure that’s probably because they must’ve had a busy breakfast/brunch crowd. Overall, we had a great visit here. I’d definitely return again the next time we find ourselves in St. George. Highly recommended.

This place has been a favorite in our family for years! My dad especially loves it. I have to leave a review because today touched my heart! My father, Stoney, is a busy guy despite being in a wheelchair and being half paralyzed at age 43! He had a college class tour 3 miles from Black Bear Diner so we decided to go for brunch in between his classes with my 2.5 year old daughter and as always, it was PERFECT! At the very end of our meal, our incredible server, Daniel, told us our bill was completely covered. I looked around and asked him who paid for our meal and he just shrugged!! My heart is so full. Thank you to whoever covered our meal today at Black Bear. We will never forget this experience! I’m not sure if it was a fellow guest or the amazing diner itself but we are incredibly thankful!! We will be sure to pay it forward!! God Bless! Aside from that, my dad is an America loving patriot. We recognize Black Bears values and will always support them! We love to see the employee’s smiling faces as they are not required to wear masks! Black Bear Diner is EXCEPTIONAL! Thank you for your great example in this community! -Jackson’s and Hanza’s

This place has a fun atmosphere, and is themed well. There are bear carvings throughout, and even the menus are newspapers. For the most part it's clean, starting to show some age, but not bad. I ordered the breakfast burrito with hashbrowns, and my wife got the French toast with whip cream and strawberries. Breakfast burritos are my thing, but for some reason most places have a hard time making them perfect. Black Bear adds refried beans, and it was, well, mushy. The salsa and sour cream were the best part. The hashbrowns were bland, but at least crispy on the edges. My wife's French toast was delicious, the strawberries weren't sweetened so they went well with the whip cream. The side of ham also helped offset the sweetness. The waitress was ok. Seemed to be having an off day which is alright. We were there with extended family and one of our party was a bit annoying. I have eaten here a few times before and I am usually pretty happy. Just didn't like the burrito. Portions are huge! But, prices seem to have gone up as well.

STAY AWAY

Not sure if they have a new owner or new management but this place is not good anymore. I used to eat here weekly for over 10 years. This is the first time I have been back in around a year and YIKES!

Sat around 10 minutes before the server got to us, I'm not exaggerating, I was chatting with my wife who is out of town and noticed the time when the server showed up, call duration on the phone. The server's introduction was "what can I get you".

Food came out pretty quick, I'd say 6 or 7 minutes. Chicken Fried Steak was nice and hot, country potatoes were ice cold. I'm sure they were leftover from an order before and let them sit out until another order came in. Eggs over easy were cooked dead.

We sat and ate and we never saw the server again for a good 30 minutes. We never got any syrup for our pancakes, no refills for coffee or water, no check-backs, we wanted our eggs cooked correctly and hot country potatoes but at the point we waited so long the server could have said "well the food has sat there for so long it's going to be cold by this time".

I have been dining out for over 40 years and I can safely say this was probably the worst experience I have had and I have been to some questionable establishments. I was also a server in a breakfast chain for a good time so I always give the server the benefit of the doubt because I know how things work from the time the customer comes through the door to the time they leave.

And then they want a 30% tip for providing the same service that McDonald's does. Take order drop off bad food and then you pay the bill at the front. I felt bad leaving a tip for such horrible non-existent service. This server needs to be either re-trained or put in another position.

This was around 8:30am 01/11/2025 and the two other tables that were sat near us experienced...

I usually love blackbear diner. I frequent the one in Henderson Nevada, the one near South Coast Plaza in Southern California, and the one at exit 13 in Utah off of the I-15, however…The blackbear in St. George is to be avoided! The restaurant looks dirty because it’s so old and it desperately needs a redo. We were seated by a window that had blinds and the blinds had food in them, not appetizing. We went in at 8 PM and the kitchen was closing down and there was only one other table. I ordered the egg white omelette and I could tell something was off and it smelled. I thought it was just me because we were eating late so I asked my daughter to smell it. She said oh no, the mushrooms or the egg whites are definitely spoiled- Do not eat that! I let my waitress know and she everything was OK and I am just not used to eating mushrooms. Lol. I told her it was not OK and then asked to speak to the manager. The manager offered to make me another meal, my appetite was gone. It was really bad. I said, “No thank you, I now feel nauseated, please just take it off my bill tonight”. She refused to do that. I literally ate three bites of my meal, and the waitress was standing there speaking to the manager in Spanish. She told her not to take it off the check and that I had eaten most of it. Definitely false, I had eaten three bites, and the top off of my biscuit. Finally, I asked the manner again and she agreed to give me a gift card to come back. Really? Because I will eat at blackbear again I said OK, but I will never ever eat at the main street location near the convention centers in St. George. Please corporate think about redoing this store and retraining your night staff. I have eaten at this location during the day and although the atmosphere is still dismal because it’s so old, the help is friendly, and the...

We stopped in the evening and they weren't busy but not dead. We were greeted on but our server had a language barrier issue that lead to our daughter getting the wrong thing. He was obviously being trained but my another server and for most of our meal they were chatting. Another table yelled repeatedly, whistled, and eventually waved another server down because ours was talking and they couldn't get anyone's attention. I ordered the diner burger but unlike other locations that serve a smash burger I was served an oblong shaped patty with unmelted cheese. The fries were good until we had to hear the servers discussing my not eating the burger in the kitchen. The older lady was LOUDLY telling them to put the fries on the final bill because I needed to pay for the fries because I ate them. I didn't even ask them to take the burger off in the first place. We had to wait for quite awhile to ask for the syrup for the kids pancakes and the honey for the tea. The chicken strips were so hard our daughter couldn't eat them. There were a lot of staff for as poor as the service was and as badly behaved as they were. The hostess seemed to be the only one working like she was being paid. All in all we won't stop at a black bear again. This was the 5th bad experience with the chain in 3 different states.

Our kids didn't ever get there ice cream/ fruit either but eventually we just...
