So I will start off that my food was exactly what I hoped it would be. However the experience was not.
The short version, it took 83 minutes from the time we sat down to get food which meant we had to take it to go.
I was enticed by the lunch prices, so I arrived with 3 friends just after noon. We sat in the "longhorn lounge" which are a few tables near the bar. We were greeted and drink orders were taken nearly immediately.
When the server came back with drinks, we ordered. We socialized for another 10 minutes before the table next to us was seated. We continue chatting as their drink order is taken, then their meal order. . . Then their food comes out, and we still don't have anything. At this point we are 40 minutes into our experience, and on a lunch break, so I politely ask the server if we are getting close. She says a few more minutes. 10 minutes later, she comes by to top off drinks (the first and only time she did so).
At that point I explain that I have to leave soon and will need my food to go. I give her my card to pay for the as yet unseen food so that she can get that done quickly. She returns with The food for the 2 people who are staying, and the checks for the table. We sign our checks and wait for our to-go food to show up. The other 2 clean their plates, and when they have been done 5 minutes, the server comes over and says have a great day. At this point I asked if we were going to get our food that we were trying to get since we were tight on time, and she then goes and gets it so that we can leave with our food at the same time as the other people we came with.
So ultimately I was in the restaurant for over 90 minutes, and had to take my food back to my office and eat while working. The burger was great, and the fries were not soggy so I would like to go back when the service and speed are better.
I assume this was a symptom of the restaurant still being new, and working out some kinks. I will likely go back because the food was good, but I will be waiting a few months before...
Read moreI wanted a good meal after weeks of camping, a stressful day, and hours of driving, so this place seemed like a good candidate when I arrived in St. George. Even though I was starving, I had a bit of trouble choosing because the menu is kind of overly complicated/not very well designed (combos, separately priced sides, etc). I ordered a cheap margarita (served in a pilsner glass with mostly ice), and the sirloin/ shrimp combo. Even though my general rule is to only order dishes that I wouldn't want to make, the descriptions were good, so that's what I ordered. I told the server "no bell peppers."
They start you off with a mini loaf of wheat bread (yum), with whipped butter...a foretelling. The salad was ok; I appreciated the fact that some things one might not like were in little piles that you could push aside (in my case, cheese).
Essentially this place is good if you love butter and salt. I do, but I was also glad that I had a couple of beverages to wash down the rich and salty bites. The sirloin was cooked properly, although the first bite was all gristle that I had to spit out. The shrimp were fine but doused/cooked(?) in 'smokey tomato butter'--with a side of melted garlic butter! They were served on rice, which, to my dismay, contained bell peppers, which I cannot eat. I began the extraction of everything from the rice while waiting for the server to come by so I could get another plate. The rice seemed really rich...like, I dunno, butter? Sure enough, the calorie count on the menu for one serving of rice was 320.
The mashed potatoes were delicious but mysterious because they were firm and yellowish even when hot (unlike potatoes that have a lot of butter only get firm when they cool off). And they had a lake of butter on top. I can't be sure, but the steak might have also had some butter involved because it didn't need any seasoning (normally a sign of a good steak).
The service was very good. However I was more than halfway through my meal before my wine arrived. It was pretty busy there for a...
Read moreWe were one of the first couples on the grand opening day. We had good food and experienced excellent service. Good teamwork.
As you can imagine, vegans have limited options at a steakhouse. For calorie counters, this menu is filled with calorie bombs. This food will stick to your ribs and is not a place for the budget-minded frugal zealots.
We tried the Texas Tonion, House Salad, Loaded Potato Soup, Parmesan Crusted Chicken, 9oz filet, and finished it with the Strawberries & Cream Shortcake.
The complimentary bread and butter were ok. The bread was healthier, and the butter was so cold it would not spread. Locals may not appreciate this bread as much as the bread from steakhouse competitors. We let them know that the Texas Tonion was overseasoned. It was visible enough that they apologized and did not charge us for it. The house salad was good, and the honey mustard dressing was among the best in town. The Loaded Potato Soap was perfect, and my wife will order it again on a future visit. My wife's Parmesan Crusted Chicken was also overseasoned, just better than the tonions were. She will try something else when we come back. The 9oz filet was good. Surprisingly for a filet, it had some gristle. It was cooked perfectly, and I would order it again without seasoning, which took away from the filets' natural flavor. The Mac N Cheese that came with it was good. The Strawberries & Cream Shortcake was the best part of the meal. It was the highlight of the meal despite not being a dessert addict.
In summary, this is not a venue for kids. There are high chairs...just not a fun place for them. The food is good, the service is excellent, and because of the cost is for special occasions for anyone that is cost conscious. The one thing we would come back for again and again is the Strawberries &...
