The Pink LadyThe Pink Lady
First off, I would like to comment on the food. We not only received the wrong order, but when my husband tried to eat it, he said it tasted like mush. The reason for this is that the tortillas were undercooked, the meat was under seasoned, the refried beans were powdery (like they’ve been sitting out too long), and the rice was mushy. On top of all this, the customer service is some of the worse I have seen in my entire life! My husband and I went into El Patron and asked for an order of “two birria tacos” and two burritos. Somehow the cashier understood something else and they gave us a different order of birria and corn tortillas. When my husband called, they were not even apologetic. The food was so bad that he couldn’t even eat it. The tortillas were falling apart. That’s when I decided to call. The same cashier answered the phone and this time I asked what they could do about our order. He spoke to someone in Spanish and the voice told him to say that if we wanted a replacement that we had to bring the food in with us. I thought this was odd. We’re in the middle of a pandemic! Despite the inconvenience, I bagged the food and drove all the way back to El Patron. At this point, I was frustrated at the lack of courtesy these people had. I expressed this by telling them what an inconvenience this was for me. That’s when a female came out from the back asking me to explain the problem. So I did. She then told me that it was an “inconvenience to [them] that I was calling and asking for [my] order to be replaced”. I was appalled. I could not believe this woman’s lack of empathy. I explained that the tortillas were cracked in the middle and she tried to tell me that when tortillas get warmed up, that’s what happens to them. ? I’ve had experience with cracked tortillas, and they only crack like that if they are undercooked, or if they come out of the package like that. I don’t feed my family tortillas out of the package like that, I could not believe that a restaurant would feed their customers this? She told me that next time I ordered tortillas and didn’t want them cracked, to tell them to cook them longer. In other words, to ask them to warm up the tortillas correctly. She then became very defensive and told me that we “do not know what good food is” and that their food is good food. After hearing this, I was astonished! I am Mexican and I grew up eating good Mexican food. How can I not know what good Mexican food is supposed to taste like? I could not believe the nerve this woman had. She argued with everything I said. It was ridiculous. I could not believe I was being talked to like this. Thankfully, they gave me a refund for my order and they took their food back. I will NEVER go back to this place again, I will not recommend this to any of my friends and family, nor would I recommend it to anyone at all. If you know what good food is, DO NOT EAT AT EL PATRON. Their food is not as good as they claim it is, and they clearly do not care about their customers.

This might be the best Mexican food in Utah. Despite its distance from the Border, El Patron is the boss. No beer or margaritas, which is a bummer, but nonetheless we survived. Our group ordered a variety of items, from burritos and chimichangas to tortas and enchilada plates. Everything was delicious. Everything was consumed. And the salsa bar was great. Really, the menu is quite expansive and relatively affordable. It’s nice that the staff bring the plates to you, even if everything came out at different times, which made it awkward for eating. Maybe ask us if we’re all sitting at the same table and bring the orders out all at once? Just a thought. And why even bother asking me my name at the register when it doesn’t matter in the slightest? This sort of mindless management/ownership is bothersome. My only real complaint is regarding their flatware, napkins, and cups. Such cheap, shitty, useless materials. The forks and knives are simply useless. The napkins? Like tissue paper. And the water cups are flimsy and hold maybe 8oz of water. Like, bro, just charge an extra $0.25 for every item and you’ve paid for the better quality products that ensure a more pleasant dining experience. Otherwise, this place is clean, delicious, and a great place for some quality Mexican food.

El Patrón is the most authentically “Utah” Mexican food you’ll find. (in St. George) Some say El Patrón is comparable to, if a taco went on a mission to Spain, got baptized in Tapatio hot sauce, and came back spiritually stronger, but mentally not so much. Not my words, what others have said. #JosephSmith The salsa’s so mild, it might actually be tomato water, but bless their hearts for trying. The horchata tastes like a cinnamon roll, that’s read the Book of Mormon, twice! #blessings No caffeine, of course, wouldn’t want your Diet Coke to lead you into temptation. #SatanTemptation #Caffeine It’s not Mexican authentic, but it’s 100% Mormon approved, and somehow that just feels right. 9 out of 10, missing one star because we can’t find the hot sauce here, but still spicier then Del Taco Bell.

Great design, not so great food. The logo, from the street, really jumps out at you. The artwork is gorgeous and just makes you want to pull in. I got my food from their drive through, so I didn't go into the building, but driving around the building, I was impressed that it was very clean, inviting (yes, for a drive-thru), and there was more artwork on the side of the building that was fantastic. From the outside, the interior looked nice, but that's about all I can say about it. The service was very friendly, and their menu looked clean, if not maybe a bit large and ambitious for a fast-food place. They should really cut back. I really wanted to like this place, I really, really did. However, it was just no good. I am not a picky person--I'm a real foodie. I eat everything, and I love fish, but their fish burrito was so bad I literally threw two thirds of it away. The slaw dressing that typically goes in a fish burrito was way too thick and way too sweet. The fish was tilapia and tasted (as tilapia almost always does) a little like mold. If it had been nicely battered and deep fried, I might not have noticed so much. If you want a good fish burrito, try Alfredo's A on Bluff--not this one. My wife's tacos were dry and bland. The salsa verde was not enough to save them. A good taco only works with great meat--flavorful, tender, and moist. This was not those. The tacos were simple--tortilla, meat, cilantro, might have been diced onion. A perfect taco, but only if you have good meat. She also had an enchilada, but it was barely warm inside and none of the cheese was melted. With something as simple as a cheese enchilada, the few ingredients present need to shine. The churro wasn't bad, but not great, and the same could be said for the flan. It was a little grainy, did not seem to be made with great skill. Overall, I was sad about this experience and have not been back. I hope the food catches up to the atmosphere and...
