Sorry Morgan’s Mango but our experience can’t go unmentioned. Food was wonderful, but most bizarre experience with this restaurant. Our dinner done & check requested …. 3 couples so we asked for separate checks. Not unusual as some had lobster while others less expensive meals. The Server didn’t seem pleased with request for separate checks & brought me the itemized check to breakdown by each item by couple. Three credit cards were added to the itemized check/book. Shortly after the Server came back & said there were only 2 credit cards given to him. As I had itemized & added the 3 cards, I got up to discuss, as well as the owner of the now missing credit card. The Server then told the owner of the missing CC that he had dropped the book & maybe the CC had fallen through the crack in the floor. The Server continued to wait tables while we anxiously awaited some resolution on the missing CC. Eventually, Server indicated he’d found the card & then returned to state that the card had then been declined! The Owner of the card asked to see the declined card only to find that it was someone else’s card! Clearly Morgan’s Mango has more than one CC lost to the cracks in the floor. P.S. maybe fix this? Next Morgan’s Mango owner continued to make excuses for Server…even suggesting that the Server didn’t steal the CC, which we never mentioned, as it was clearly accidentally dropped through floor. Only based on our suggestion, the couple’s meal was compted (I.e. no CC to pay w/). We went back the next day to see if CC was found in the light of day & it was evident they didn’t even look. Again, no apologies or acceptance of error…just a very obnoxious attitude that we were an inconvenience to their business. We all have bad days, errors & mistakes happen…we totally got that the card was accidentally dropped down the floor slots! But the company owner should take responsibility…instead we got an attitude that it was an inconvenience to them. Shame on Morgan’s Mango as I believe the original owners would not have been so entitled. Regardless shoutout to Amanda the Hostess for being so personable & professional to try & help resolve...
Read moreA Disastrous Evening at Morgan’s Mango
Our evening at Morgan’s Mango on December 8, 2024 took a disastrous turn after what should have been a pleasant dinner. After a delicious meal and a bottle of wine, we politely requested a taxi through the hostess. Instead of assisting us, she dismissively stated that a taxi would be available within 5 minutes, just down the steps and across the street. After a frustrating 30-minute wait, a young man suggested we walk to the ferry terminal, assuring us that a taxi would be readily available there. Disappointedly, we found no taxis at the terminal. Upon returning to the restaurant, we discovered that some employees were still present. We asked the hostess once again for assistance, specifically requesting that she call our hotel to arrange a shuttle or taxi. However, she refused, insisting that we use our own phones despite the lack of service in the area. By 10:15 PM, a staff member from Morgan’s Mango begrudgingly walked to the ferry terminal to find a taxi. Unfortunately, he returned empty-handed, avoiding our gaze as he approached. This lack of transparency and empathy was deeply unsettling. Stranded and frustrated, we walked where we finally had service arriving well past 10 PM. Upon reaching the hotel, we learned that the concierge had made our 7:30 PM reservation at Morgan’s Mango. The hotel staff expressed concern about our late return, advising us to avoid taxi’s after 9pm to the property, yet it was the Concierge from the Westin property that made a 7:30 reservation. This entire ordeal was a shocking display of poor hospitality. The waitress at Morgans literally laughed at me when I again requested she call our hotel and repeatedly said use your own phone after telling her I wasn’t getting service on my phone or my friends phone. Morgan’s Mango’s indifference and lack of assistance left us feeling vulnerable and unsafe. We hope that the restaurant will take steps to rectify this situation and ensure that future guests are treated with the respect and care...
Read moreThis spot was recommended to us by our Airbnb hosts and it did not disappoint. Definitely recommend getting a reservation if you're up for a nicer night out in St John.
The staff seemed to take COVID protocol very seriously. We had to wear masks until seated and use hand sanitizer to get into the restaurant. Our waiter JC was the only staff member who wasn't wearing his mask properly, which was frustrating as he would get closer to us to set down silverware or help fill up our cups. It was below his nose the entire night. It made us feel a little more anxious about the experience and frustrated that we had the waiter who didn't abide by the rules while all the other staff was wearing their masks over their nose and mouth.
The coconut grouper with Mango Rum sauce was highly recommended to us but when we arrive for our 7:45pm reservation they said they were out, which was a little disappointing. We ordered the Catch of the Day scallops instead and they were phenomenal. Some of the best scallops we've had and they were large, which was nice. Very well cooked. Our favorite dish of all. Order it with the Mango Rum sauce. It was perfectly sweetened and balanced the dish really nicely.
We ordered the Shrimp ceviche to start. The yuca chips were my favorite. Had a nice salty side and a fun drizzle of balsamic. The ceviche was fine. Probably our least favorite dish. We've never had just shrimp ceviche before so perhaps that was the issue. We still finished it but just didn't have the same citrusy flavor as other ceviche. Would try the other ceviche in the future.
We also ordered the paella which was yummy! The blend of cheesy/saucy rice the peppers and fish was tasty. I had a calamari or two that was a little rubbery. Which made the dish less ideal.
Lastly, we ordered the key lime pie! It was delicious! Highly recommend. The sugary buttery graham cracker crust mixed well with the meringue...
