After rushing to get on the boat with my husband and and two children, we tried checking the lower section and multiple people including a staff member said there were no seats, we were told to check the upper section so we moved to the upper section and once again NOTHING. The staff then got upset that we weren’t seated, the boat then started to move. We offered to sit on the ground but you can’t do that. We were then told to move down again, so we moved down. They started getting upset at us that we still were not seated, my husband of course started raising his voice and told them to show us a seat. Finally one of the staff members decided to help us, turns out there were 2 middle seats (different rows) people were taking up with backpack, he and only that staff member told them to move the stuff. The ones getting upset and directing us up and down were not helpful at all, only this One gentleman! My kids sat on our laps. Mind you we were packed in there quite tightly and ventilation was at a very minimum, so during COVID times I do not recommend this ferry if you’re at high risk. Another suggestion would be to actually meter the amount of people getting on and not taking more than your ferry can handle. My kids should have had their own seat. You should also direct people to move all the way down and no empty seats to be taken up by luggage or carry on items I’m sure your staff is working hard and have to deal with difficult people, my husband and I are not difficult and rarely raise our voices but there are definitely some improvements that need to be made for the safety of...

Taking the ferry from St. Thomas to St. John was a great experience—as it always is. I’ve been riding this ferry for over 40 years, and it never gets old. Every time I’m back home, it’s still such a beautiful wonder to witness—the views, the breeze, the anticipation of arriving in St. John.
The fare is very reasonable, and while you should be prepared to pay a small fee for luggage, it’s still a great value for such a scenic and convenient ride. The ferry is clean and comfortable, with your choice of sitting on the upper level to enjoy the open air and ocean views, or down below in the air-conditioned cabin if you prefer to stay cool.
The ride was smooth, the staff was professional, and everything ran right on time. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, the ferry adds to the magic of the journey. A true gem of...
Read moreFerry process from Red Hook to Cruz bay was easy. Unfortunately our first trip was spoiled at the end when a very rude crew member started yelling at my older mother for having the audacity to cary one of her two bags on her lap. One of the other staff members (maybe the captain) finally intervened and said let her go, but this crew member was still very rude to me as I tried to explain the situation. This experience ruined our ferry trip (after a long day, a long flight and a stressful cab ride).
We prepaid for our return trip, but now I'm wishing we hadn't. I will never take this ferry again if possible. Probably fine if you just want to go back and forth to St John or St Thomas, but I would recommend others traveling to St john from the airport look at other...
