Stumbled on this on Saturday after we arrived at St. Pete's Beach. No reservation so we waited 20-25 minutes. Meanwhile we went to the side where we were able to get beer (Sunshine City and Beach Blonde Ale). The place is small but there is seating outside. We ordered Grouper nuggets as an app served with tartar sauce. So delicious, fresh and a good size. You also get hummus served with bread sticks. Really good. A bit spicy but not over powering. For our entree, my husband had the Wasabi crusted Tuna (Wasabi-soy marinated pano crusted tuna over a citrus Buerre Blanc). Large portion and cooked medium rare. Absolutely delicious!! It was served with a potato puffed pastry and vegetables. I had the stuffed gulf grouper. It was stuffed with shrimp, scallop, and crab meat. It was outstanding. It came with the potato puffed pastry but I didn't even try it. The fish plus its stuffing was enough. It had a champagne cream which finished it off nicely. With your entrees you do get a nice salad. This place was outstanding. The food was fresh. Our server, Ryan, was amazing. He went over the menu and made sure that we were taken care of. We loved it so much that we came back 3 days later. We had the Tuna dish again but this time tried out the Gulf Red Snapper (herb-crusted garlic, smashed potato, tomato garlic broth and a balsamic finish). The fish was cooked to perfection and was very flavorful. The mango salsa went well with it. Perfect match. My husband said it was the best he ever had. He told our waiter Mike to make sure to tell the chef. We also went there right before we headed back home. We just had apps. We had the Blue Crab Stuffed Portobello with a chipotle aioli and baked jack cheese on top. It was a big portobello and cooked perfectly. It was hot and flavorful. We also got the Gulf to Bay Oysters stuffed with spinach, caramelized onion, bacon and cheese on half shell. As you can see we loved this place so much we ate there 3 times. I would definitely go back. If you are ever in the area, please make it a point to go there. It was our favorite place to go. Great food and...
Read moreFive stars for an end-to-end great dining experience. I'd say good for families with kids, good for couples, good for date night, good for a meal after hanging out on the beach all day. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend the dishes we ordered: blue crab stuffed portabella, coconut shrimp (appetizer portion), the stuffed gulf grouper and the risotto oceana.
We got there relatively early for dinner - just before 6 PM. We waited about one minute while they cleared a table. They promptly brought a booster seat for our two year old. Kid's menu had plenty of options (see picture). We ordered the coconut shrimp and the blue crab stuff portabella for appetizers. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. The "chef's dipping sauce" was sweet and a perfect pairing. The stuffed portabella was covered in a Chipotle aioli that was a good combo of smoky and spicy. And plenty of crab (in fact, I didn't see any fillers whatsoever - just crab).
The risotto oceana was parts garlicky, smoky, and nearly perfectly cooked. The scallops in particular just melted in your mouth. The risotto was good - quite good - but not the very best I've had. But it didn't detract at all from the dish. It was still very good. I personally loved the whole roasted cloves of garlic in the risotto as little surprises.
The puff pastry potato was the unexpected star of the stuffed grouper dish. The potato inside the puff pastry was almost like a scalloped potato - creamy and just the right firmness for a potato. The stuffing was very good. The bites that we took (took most of it home for later!) was mostly crab, but I'm not upset about that! The grouper itself was great - well cooked and tasted fresh.
We ordered the kid's fish & chips for our two year old. Perfectly fine if not too much. The fish was nice filet and it came with plenty of very tasty fries (the nice crunchy kind that I like).
We ended the meal with key lime pie to go. Full disclosure: we haven't eaten that yet. But...
Read moreMy wife and I stumbled across this place about 5 years ago, when we were headed back to the Don Cesar from Johns Pass. We were starting to panic because everything was closed when we found Snappers. Although we were almost 60, we had never had Ahi Tuna because, well, who wants basically raw seafood? Well, apparently a LOT of smart people do, and unless you're allergic, you should too! Their Ahi Tuna appetizer with the blueberry/teriyaki sauce! We tried it 5 years ago (well, I did, wife said the "raw seafood" thing), and it literally blew my mind. My wife was so intrigued by my reaction that she took a tiny taste. Her wide eyes as she tasted it confirmed that I had not lost my mind, it's THAT good. For FIVE YEARS I have been on a quest to find Ahi Tuna that good, and although I've tried dozens and dozens of places, some 4 and 5 star places if you are into that stuff ($300+ for two), and I've found some really good tuna, but NOTHING compared to Snappers!
So. You might think "well, it was your first time and you inflated in your mind how good it was", and buddy, I was afraid you might have been right. BUT, we finally returned to the area, this time a Condo in Reddington Beach. The couple we were traveling with were informed that WE were going to Snappers for one of our meals, and they could come if they wanted. We all went. NO FALSE MEMORIES, THE AHI TUNA IS STILL THE BEST! Dang, as I write this I hate that I'm missing Hurricane Helene, because if I was there I could go back to Snappers (actually prayers for everyone who is affected by the developing storm, hopefully damage is minimal). But you get my point. All four of us immensely enjoyed our meal, I ordered the stuffed flounder, wife had mahi mahi, someone got a filet. All of us left very satisfied. You will too. GET THE AHI...
