Fantastic local restaurant if you're looking for great southern cooked meals particularly fried chicken or fish! They're well oiled machine of great customer service and process of how they do their business is top notch. All you fancy people expecting top shelf whatever might be in for a slightly rude awakening because this place is old school with a small old building and old fashioned charm and business ethic. You'll leave feeling satisfied you chose this joint as your meal spot both in the quality and quantity of food you receive not to mention the pleasant hospitality of the cute sweet lil lady running the window. This is an honest hard working well ran restaurant that I would highly recommend for the type of food and great service delivered! Anyone complaining about anything from this place needs their head checked because they obviously have mis-aligned their expectations or are wrongly placing blame from a possible bad day I suppose. I've been around to thousands of restaurants and I myself am hard to impress stopping very infrequently to leave reviews so that is how strongly I feel about getting the word out about how great this place is as well as unique. There are many many many great places in the area to get really good fried chicken fish and fixins but you will leave this place happy that you spent you're hard earned dollars on a meal here and you will likely feel so strongly about it that you will want to return frequently for more! 5 stars plus plus plus for them and an atta boy and big thank you from someone who pays attention to the fine details and appreciates the focus on their specialty of no frills good old fashioned southern charm and...
Read moreI tried them for the first time today and bought a kids' meal, which included a drumstick, a side, a choice of fruit, and a 16oz. fountain drink, all for $5.00. The drumstick was lean and small, slightly overcooked, which is beyond fried hard. I could tell it was fresh because even after my near 20-minute drive home, it was near piping hot. However, it tasted of grease and light salt. I chose mashed potatoes for my side, which i was pleasantly surprised with. I loved the consistency and taste of the potatoes. They used a chicken gravy, which is what caught me off guard because it worked very well with the potatoes. I didn't eat the apple sauce, but they didn't make it either, so I wouldn't count that against them anyway. The drink was a Pepsi, which was strong. That one meal took 20 minutes, which I thought was too long for something so small, but they were also pretty busy, so I can let that slide. The lady who took my order was pretty nice for the most part. She was swamped with phone calls, and a few minutes after I placed my order, about 15 people showed up, and she handled them all by herself. The building they are in is a former bbq spot I used to frequent when it was in operation. They've put some money in fixing up the place. The drive thru is still horrible, but outside of fixing the inherited potholes, it's not much else they can do as it was just originally poorly designed. Overall, I would not go out of my way to try them again,at least not the chicken, but they have a pretty expansive menu, so I may visit again to try...
Read moreThis was my 1st time visiting this establishment. After hearing someone rant & rave about how this place had the best Fried Chicken anywhere!!!, I'm wondering what chicken they were eating?🤔. Chicken Coop does not come close to any of the "well established" chicken places in the area when it comes to chicken!! Some of the reviews are correct, if U don't follow the directions & really look for the place, U will drive right by it. It is a small shack in the hole place that has no signage outside of it to attract customers. You're better off looking for landmarks around it like, it's across the street from Kennelwood Pet Kennel, it's right down the street or up the street (depending on which direction ur coming from) Hardee's, Mccallister's, Oberweis, & Starbuck's. It sits across the intersection from Mid Rivers Post Office. The chicken pieces are very small & flavorless, absolutely no flavor at all!!! If they have spicy chicken, U might be better off ordering that. I'm not sure the prices are reasonable for the size pieces that U receive?, but the chicken is hot & cooked to order. U want to call your order in ahead of time or U may have a 20 min or longer wait for it to be prepared. I will definitely go back to try some other items & hopefully they are better than the chicken. I was very disappointed..... Sorry, I did not take any pics as I did not feel that it was...
