Upon entering I was promptly greeted and seated by friendly and polite staff. The restaurant location used to be an O'Charley's, and the new owners really did a nice job updating the aesthetic to that of a nicer family tavern style ambiance. I did a little research and found out this restaurant is a sister restaurant of Twisted Tree, a fine dining establishment off of Watson, and they really seem to have brought the same care for dining experience that I experienced at Twisted Tree to the Twisted Tavern. I ordered the Twisted Fries and Fried Pickles as an appetizer, both were fried to perfection, the fried pickles had a dill forward flavor and light airy breading, the fries were nicely seasoned with a mix of cheese, thick bacon bits, and aioli, for the main course I had the Wakey Wakey Burger with Chipotle Street Corn and the Twisted Chicken Sandwich with Twisted Fries, the burger was a perfect example of a quintessential smash burger, with perfect crispy edges and a moist and flavorful inside, the cheese and candied bacon really elevated the experience, the fried egg added to a rich flavor and cross section that was beautiful, the chipotle street corn had a hint of smokiness along with the classic flavors one would expect from an elote en vaso, the Twisted Chicken had light and fluffy fried breading, providing a nice crispy layer contrasting the moist and juicy chicken, truly a flavorful combination and very impressive for a tavern style chicken sandwich. An espresso martini was had, which was aromatically coffee forward. Overall my experience at Twisted Tavern was above my expectations from what I've become accustomed to experiencing at tavern and pub restaurants in the St. Charles area, and I have no doubt Twisted Tavern will see great success if they continue to focus on the things that really set them apart, including the nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and excellent quality food, at a reasonable price. You can't go wrong here, and will find plenty of great tavern food on the menu, I personally recommend starting with the Fried Pickles...
Read moreOverall not good. We will not return. This was our 3rd visit Our family of 5 adults and a baby went to celebrate a birthday. We immediately order aside of mashed potatoes so the baby would not have to wait to eat anything. Well 20 minutes later they can out with our starter of cheese curds. Mashed potatoes were warm not hot, but ok for a baby to not burn his mouth. Cheese curds over cooked no flavor and no cheese because when it over cooked all the cheese melted out . The food we order took almost an hour from order to table. My husband ordered the special and boy was it SPECIAL the halibut was over cooked the pasta was flavorless and the waitress never told us that this SPECIAL was $49.00. my order a stout burger was really greasy with asparagus that was too much lemon juice spilled over. My daughter in-laws tenderloins were tough and had a weird sweet and peppery sauce. The rest of the food was just okay. We were really mad we were not told about the cost of the special till we received the bill. Not telling us the cost That was the servers fault I don't think the slow service was the server but the kitchen issues food was not worth a trip back. This was our third time coming in. First time the y lost our order and took more than an hour to get our food but when it did come out was delicious. So I left a big tip and said mistakes happen we will try again. Second time in we get our food in a reasonable amount of time but food was good not wonderful but good. Third time and our final. This was not good. And I wanted to like it and enjoy but that was...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant for the first time with some family, and unfortunately, it was a pretty disappointing experience overall.
While our waitress was friendly and kind, the overall service left a lot to be desired. I was served a glass of tea that was clearly spoiled. It had a strong, sour taste that was undrinkable. When I politely mentioned this to the server, I was simply given water with no further apology or offer to replace it.
For my entrée, I ordered the Wagyu steak and fries for $34, expecting a quality cut as advertised. What I received was most definitely not Wagyu, but rather what seemed like a tough, low-grade New York strip. It lacked tenderness, flavor, and quality, far from what should have been served at that price point.
To add to the frustration, I ordered a salad to go with my meal, but it never arrived until I reminded the server, well after I had eaten half my entrée. When the salad finally did come out, it was subpar and uninspired.
Sadly, I left most of my expensive dinner untouched because of the poor quality and preparation. Considering this restaurant is part of the Syberg’s and Twisted Tree family, I expected a much better experience. This location, however, fell well below even the most basic expectations.
I will not be returning, and would only recommend stopping in for appetizers like the spinach dip or more affordable menu items and not the...
