Ahi Sushi with Chef Daniel, his wife Yan, and waitress Angelina is truly a gem in St. Pete. With a noticeable lack of top-tier sushi options in the area, Chef Daniel absolutely delivers on quality and freshness. After a friend’s recommendation, I found myself going back three times in the same week—each visit confirming just how exceptional this place is.
Angelina is warm, attentive, and even remembered me after my first visit, which made the experience feel even more personal. Now, onto the sushi itself—Chef Daniel’s mastery is evident in every bite. I ordered the Sushi Deluxe along with a few a la carte pieces to fully test the quality and selection of fish, and he did not disappoint. The salmon, tuna, and yellowtail were incredibly fresh, and his precision in crafting rolls is impressive, maintaining the perfect fish-to-rice ratio. The rice itself is cooked and seasoned impeccably—you can taste each grain—and even the seaweed is noticeably high quality.
The real standouts for me were the Scallop and Uni nigiri. The Scallop nigiri was large, sweet, and lightly seared, topped with Ikura, Tobiko, and a touch of Yuzu Jalapeño that enhanced its natural flavor beautifully. But the Hokkaido Uni? Absolutely mesmerizing. Served as a hand roll with Ikura, Caviar, and gold flakes, it was pure, custardy perfection. My girlfriend, after one bite, immediately ordered her own—and in true foodie fashion, I followed up with another myself.
It's refreshing to find a chef in St. Pete who takes such pride in his craft. If you're looking for the freshest selection, Chef Daniel usually receives deliveries between Friday and Monday, making it the prime time to visit. Ahi Sushi offers an exceptional experience without completely breaking the bank, and I’m beyond happy to have found this spot....
Read moreSmall, unassuming place with ok food for the price. I, however will not be back. I walked in and let them know I had made a to-go order and the woman immediately scowls at me confused. My food was supposed to be ready at 13 past the hour, I walked in at 24 past the hour because I was looking for parking. I gave her my name & phone # only to find out they hadn’t even started my order and it would be another 10-15 minutes. I asked why she didn’t call me she says “we’re too busy making sushi”. There are 4 tables sat, the restaurant is nowhere near full. She looks at me with the same scowl and goes “you wait or not, I don’t care! We’re busy!” I looked at her surprised “you don’t care about my business?” She realized what she said and asked again if I wanted to wait. In all honesty, if I hadn’t spent the last 20 minutes looking for parking, no, I would not have waited. This could be the best tempura this side of the Gulf and I wouldn’t come back. Keep this same attitude and you will not be...
Read more-Food ordered: Salmon Lover, 2 sushi avocado rolls, spider roll
-Review: These rolls were freshly made and the rice was fresh as well. Not hard like you'd get at sushi inc. The miso and ginger salad were also good. It's really hard to find good sushi that's affordable in St. Pete so I was really happy with this place
-Price: Spider roll $12, Salmon Lover $25, Sushi avocado roll $8
-Portion: Smaller roll sizes than other sushi restaurants
-Service: Good. There was some confusion over the chef's choice when on the salmon lover was brought out and it was white fish. The server insisted it was correct but the itamae (sushi chef) was quick to correct that.
-Atmosphere: small, no frills, and it's pretty cold inside so bring a jacket if you run cold. The restaurant is also very small so best for parties of 2-3
-Would I come...
