Black Rock Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Salem

I started coming here regularly because I enjoyed their drinks a lot, especially their low sugar / SF options. Unfortunately, the service just isn't that great. I received a promotional email advertising a free medium drink if I bought one drink. I purchased two drinks, but when I arrived they would not honor the promotion because I ordered ahead through the app. I thought this was strange, but I suggested cancelling the mobile app order and reringing it up outside of the app to apply the promotion, but they refused to do this as well. Basically the email was just to lure me in to pay full price.

I get it, a free $6 drink isn't a huge deal, and I had already spent hundreds at this place. But it was the fact that I felt tricked into coming in for a specific promotion and them refusing the promotion that rubbed me the wrong way. I've had Dutch Bros proactively offer free drinks for mistakes without even asking for it, so it was a weirdly jarring and unexpected experience.

I personally won't be returning here, but I gave it 2 stars because I genuinely like their drinks, you just can't trust their deals or promotions, or for them to fix their mistakes if they mess...

I really loved this place and I am an almost daily customer awhile back this would have been a 5 star. But lately have the drinks have mostly been terrible, burnt shots, or unmixed fuels. I feel like if I’m going to be paying about $6.50 plus tip for a drink my fuel drink should at least be mixed….and my coffee shouldn’t taste bitter burnt. I’m sad because this was one of the best coffee places in town in my opinion and lately it seems that staff just doesn’t care anymore, and are even a little rude, specifically the evening staff (The morning staff is mostly great!) there is a girl in the mornings that’s slower but she makes the best coffee! Other times lately I’ve been getting burnt tasting coffee. But what made me write this is it’s super hot today and I wanted a cold drink with some energy and I got an unstirred drink, I pulled over to mix it together which is irritating in itself and then realize I barely have any flavor and I mostly have the premade blended base. It’s been happening a lot lately and that’s why I decided to post this hoping this changes because like I said this is my favorite...

I wish I took a picture to better explain. I was going to a different coffee location but their line was too long and I was headed to work so I drove around it and headed to black rock, I used to order their energy drinks once upon a time. I ordered a blended almond milk latte, nothing complicated. When you’re paying 7-8 for a coffee, you expect it to be a drinkable. The barista handed me a cup where all the ice basically collected into one piece with the almond milk/espresso mixture was completely separated at the bottom, I tried to break it up and crush up the ice a bit which didn’t work to be honest tasted terrible because of the separation it wasn’t even cold. I don’t think you guys should have your POS system ask for tips before customers receive their drinks because I ended up spending close to 10$ to throw a drink away.
