Turners Seafood in Salem is a popular spot. The second floor is claimed to be highly haunted, so much so that they don’t use the space. #salem #explore #travel

Great place for seafood...Probably the best in the area. We went in and the fire place was lit and just a little smokey, we love that smell. It cleared quickly but the homey fireplace smell remained. The table at which we were seated was rather dark...I used my flashlight to read the menu. (I think there was a light above the table, but not working or not on). Wife got the clam chowder and I got lobster bisque with extra lobster. Both soups were good, very thick. I suspect cream soup base, but very thick, which doesn't mean better. Clams casino were good. Lots of bacon, cheesier than I am used to, and not gritty. However, the clam itself should have been detached from the shell prior to the casino filling going on. This makes it impossible to eat without it falling apart as you wrestle the clam out. 95% of the places I go detach the clam. Wife had fried scallops. Very tasty, medium scallops, and generous portion. We both had the fresh spinach with garlic...they were generous with both! I had the fried clams. This was not clam strips, this was the real thing...whole clams, breaded and fried. They were very nicely done. ADDED: [ I forgot to mention the onion rings served with the clams. They were thin and delicious Delicious. Not greasy, crisp, and great onion flavor. ] My wife told me I must make them for her when we get home! (Thanks Turner's) Finally dessert. The creme brulee was ok. It was on the lighter side with no evidence of vanilla beans. The chocolate torte was good but the presence of coconut in the bottom crust was an unexpected surprise. Not a plus either as I am not a big fan of coconut. I ate it, it was fine, would rather have known ahead of time. There is a parking lot half a block down the street (automated). I was told by restaurant that it is free after 6pm. Check before you regret! ADDED[ the owner responded to my review asking how they could improve to get 5 stars. This is always a big plus with me. It shows that the owners care enough to read the reviews and reach out. This, in my experience, is not the norm (unfortunately) but indicates a high level of commitment to the customers and their business. I will respond to them privately. ]

We stopped on 8/24/24 and 8/25/24. Our server on 8/24/24, we believe, was Natalia. She had darker hair and a thicker, possibly Spanish accent. She was absolutely wonderful. We came to Salem for my birthday and the 24th was my birthday dinner. Natalia made the experience amazing. We were able to try oysters for the first time. She walked us through the best way to try them. She even sang me happy birthday. The food was astounding. I am from a culinary background but only cook for home nowadays. The food was so good it brought tears to my eyes, this was a first time moment for me. I had the 1.5 lobster with mashed potatoes and spinach w/garlic. My husband had the black sea bass daily special. We also had the strawberry shortcake for dessert. This meal completely blew me away. We just had to return on our last night. The food again was spectacular! I was hesitant to try a lobster roll again after a mediocre first experience from a different local restaurant on our first night. I am so glad I trusted Turners based on our love of the food from the 1st night. We ordered the lobster rolls, both ways. For sides we tried the lobster risotto cake, mashed potatoes, baked beans and coleslaw. The lobster rolls tasted like HEAVEN. I am a big fan of the Connecticut style personally. Both nights i ordered the ultimate bloody mary. I am ashamed to be from Wisconsin after trying their house bloody mix. I rarely drink alcohol because the taste is too intense. Turners bloody mix is so good i wish they sold it to take home! For apps we tried the crab cakes 100/10, mac and cheese 100/10 and the lobster bisque. Oh the lobster bisque. That bisque is truly what ended up making me shed a tear. There are countless unspeakable things that I would do to get my hands on that recipe. Thank you Turners. You do food the right way. We will be back in 2031 for our 10 year anniversary and you will be our very first meal. Thank you again to Natalia for making my birthday so so special.

We are originally from Florida and decided to visit Salem. This restaurant was one of the recommendations given to us from the Salem Trolley tour. I was not disappointed. This place is amazing, from the service, to the food, to the environment. We were seated right away. And our server, Claire, was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!. She was very attentive, and gave great recommendations about what to order. For appetizers she recommended the Cherry pepper Calamari, which was delicious. She also recommended the New England clam chowder which was also excellent. When it came to the main entrees she recommended to my boyfriend the Swordfish Au Poivre, which he surprisingly LOVED. The fish was so fresh and tender, no knife needed. I ordered the Seafood Medley fried and was delicious as well, when I say FRESH all their seafood is as fresh it can be. Claire was also knowledgeable with their Bar drinks and beer in which she also gave us recommendations for. While dinning we also had an older gentleman “Richie” come by the table and asked about what we ordered and if we were enjoying our meal. He was very sweet and funny and also asked if we needed anything before he left and even changed the TV channel for my boyfriend to see the Patriots game. Lastly their manager Oscar was great, he is a team player, i saw him bring food out and help the servers out if they were busy with other customers. While waiting for our drinks he passed by asking if we needed refills in which we stated that Claire had already put the order in and we were just waiting, well less than 5 minutes later he came back with our drinks. Overall, this place is great! AMAZING customer service from everyone. This is a place that I would definitely be coming back too, when i visit again. “ Claire if you see this, GIRL!! You are amazing!! Keep up that great attitude, y’all amazing” -Daly and Warren

Updated review, February 2024: I came back to Salem this year with my husband on our honeymoon trip. We decided on going to Turners for dinner and were not disappointed in the slightest! All staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, it was a far better experience than when I went in 2022. The food was absolutely fantastic as before. I had the hake marsala dinner, husband had a salad, clam chowder and shrimp cocktail. Then, we had a chocolate torte and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious! I’m extremely appreciative of Turners staff for being so sweet and taking care of us this evening at dinner, see you again soon! Oct. 2022: Lovely restaurant and atmosphere, delicious food too! BUT you’d better hope that Michael (Walmart Denis Quaid) isn’t your server. He was fine up until I politely said “excuse me” loud enough for him to hear me over the bustle and after my table had been ignored at least 3 times, he snapped at me saying something about how he was trying to get other people out of there and that I was going to have to wait, then proceeded to give me a nasty glare for AT LEAST 10 uninterrupted seconds before returning to the table he had ran over to after hearing me say excuse me beforehand. I understand having to wait, and I had waited. We had been finished with our meal and wanted to ask a question about/order dessert. When he came to our table, I said I just wanted to ask about the size of their pumpkin cheesecake, he told me and then walked off. Didn’t even ask if I wanted to order it. So I waited and when he came back, he said “so did you want to order it or not?” And honestly, at that point, I absolutely did not want to order it. He ruined a perfectly nice evening for myself and my party. I hope Brigid visits you, Michael :)

WOW! This place was out of this world good. First time here in Salem, and all I’ve read is to try turners seafood. We went Friday the 13th. Was expecting a long wait. But wasn’t expecting how good the food was going to be. The service was even better. The location is right next to Essex street. So a little away from the madness of there. We were a party of 2 and we probably waited outside for about 30 min before we could get a seat at the oyster bar. They have tables all over, but you can get full service at the oyster bar and it goes quicker. It’s a nice cozy place. Very clean, and just feels like a unique authentic seafood spot. Loved every second of it. Our waiter Chris was phenomenal. Very attentive and gave great suggestions. We got to talk to Donny who is the oyster preparer. He was great. Very skilled at his job and seems to enjoy it. All the staff seemed to love what they do. The food was so good! Seriously it was phenomenal. We started off with the mussels, shrimp cocktail and the crab cake. The mussels are cooked right in front of you, they were fresh beyond belief and absolutely delicious. The crab cake was my favorite. It was different but in a good way. I’m from the Maryland area, but the way they breaded it was perfect. 10/10. My wife loved the shrimp cocktail. It’s all she gets when in the NE area. For dinner we got the pasta special (swordfish and sausage over penne) and it was incredible. I cleared my bowl even after the apps. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was to die for! My wife got a lobster roll and I even finished that! I definitely recommend turners and do a ghost tour as well! Find out some cool stuff about the restaurant.
