Was able to stop in on a Thursday 2 weeks ago for lunch. For some reason the door was locked, but it was 1:30PM and we could see folks in side. We ended up calling and saying is the door locked etc, - they opened the door. :) Sat down at the bar, with only another couple next to us. Bartender was friendly but where this is tavern/pub, they had no documentation for the list of draft beers. They had all the taps, just numbered, no wooded bear handles that show what is what. So ended up going with a Guinness. After 3 sips, realized no nitrogen, their draft is not working (this is unique to having Guinness on draft) Right after this another woman brought up here Guinness and saying it was flat. The bartender just poured another flat Guinness for her..... Not the end of world, I love Guinness, had to pick my battles and debate with the bartender that they are having an issue, when they clearly didn't think so.. On to the food. Taco's and smoked pulled pork. The truffle fries were spot on and the meat was smoked for sure, but we both looked at each other and said, "I swear this pork was microwaved", it just cooled way to quick. But tasted very good. The couple next to us at the bar, let us know, that they had our bill added to theirs, we had a laugh and the bartender made the quick adjustment. Again no big deal. Cool place and they have an awesome downstairs that has some type of music as well. Just some tweaks and this place is 5 stars all day long.

The service here was amazing. Our waitress was very quick with getting us our drinks, taking our order, and refilling our water. The atmosphere was pleasant, and very clean and nice. My only issue was with the bathroom that could have used a little more attention, cleaning, getting the graffiti off the walls. The drinks were excellent. I had the Six Feet Under, which was amazing. The food was good as well. My wife started with the New England Clam Chowder, which was excellent. I had the Calimari, which was fantastic. For our entrees, my wife had the Ceasar Salad, and added steak points. The steak was cooked perfectly and was so tender, she didn't even need a knife to cut it. I had the fish tacos. I wish that I could say they were amazing, but I was very underwhelmed. First, there were only two, which shocked me, as most places usually give you 3. Second, the haddock was warm, not hot and crispy as you would expect for a fried fish. Lastly, the portion was alright, but the size of the fish could have been a little more. While some of my fries were slightly crispy, there were just as many that were limp and soggy. Some people may bash me for not sending the food back, but I am not a complainer, and will eat what is given to me. While we may give them another chance, if we make it back up here, I would not recommend the fish tacos.

My friend and I visited Salem last weekend. It took 7, yes 7 places to finally have luck dining in a restaurant. They all either were booked and not accepting walk ups or the wait time was ridiculous (1.5-2 hours). As you may know, Salem is very busy this time of the year (shocker) but the security guard outside of Opus was kind enough to let us in to see if there is any seats available at the Bar since table reservations were booked out for about 1 hour. We luckily snagged two seats as a group of ladies we’re heading out. Within 1 minute the bartender sat a glass of water down and asked how we were doing. The staff was so kind, quick and made sure we were taken care of. We ordered a few Moscow Mules which were delicious and we can see the bartenders making drinks two even three at a time. Another bartender (Sean) helped us with ordering our food. We ordered Buffalo Chicken bites, Sushi and Pork Ramen which were all very tasty. The price is definitely worth it with the quality of food and a great service team. I should also mention that our Tour Guide from Historic and Haunting Tour of Salem -April recommended this place by chance. If we’re back in Salem we’re definitely stopping by Opus again!

Salem, MA, is an enchanting city that boasts a rich tapestry of history, intriguing social narratives, and an air of mystery. This city is renowned for its iconic landmarks, exceptional dining spots, and vibrant bars. I had the pleasure of being invited for a beer at one of its notable establishments, although I was cautioned that it leans more towards cocktails. The Dire Wolf not only met but surpassed my expectations. With a soundtrack featuring the likes of Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, and INXS, the ambiance is undeniably steeped in classic rock vibes, setting the stage for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The establishment is helmed by an incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming host, and the offerings are complemented by fresh, quality ingredients - albeit generously portioned - that perfectly match the excellent and carefully curated selection of beers. Observing the surroundings, I noticed an atmosphere filled with good spirits, visually appealing and deliciously crafted cocktails. Indeed, the Dire Wolf stands out as a quintessential landmark in Salem, capturing the essence of the city's charm and vitality.
