Having worked in food service of all sorts myself for about 7yrs, I am borderline unreasonably patient when it comes to things in restaurants and never leave reviews (good or bad) - especially when visiting someplace new because who am I to judge? We were sat relatively quickly, although shamed (staff very openly mumbling) for mistaking being next to be seated when no one else was standing around that was visible. We thoroughly apologized and all seemed âwellâ by what our server said. I ordered juice + 3 pancakes and my friend ordered an omelette + water. Forty minutes passed without touch base from any server and we hadnât getten our food (yes it was busy, but we watched three larger tables be seated, eaten, and about to leave) and around then I got the attention of another waitress asking about our food. She walked away and just yelled asking who had our table and no one (not even our waitress who I locked eyes with multiple times) answered... We were never addressed about our food or anything even after asking... We wound up leaving three dollars for my juice and walking out... Also, to the person who complained about overhearing staff fuss - yeppp. They donât hide it at all and I 100% understand food service frustrations but it was overboard. I watched other customers become tense hearing themselves be spoken about! Everyone has bad days, lord knows I had forgotten about tables before, but it was honestly the worst service Iâve ever had in a local-style establishment. Which all we really wanted was an answer on when our food was coming ??? And if it was all because we mistakenly sat first, which again we apologized openly and sincerely, thatâs just childish... The whole experience, start to finish, was rude and we were just two apologetic people, keeping to ourselves, and not being outlandish in any way. Idk. I hope people have a better...
Read moreWent there this morning and went with my cousinâs family as well. When they came out and asked if we wanted to eat outside we were good with that. They asked how many people and we told them 9 total but two different checks, they said no problem. When we sat down the waitress came over and I explained to her that we were two different checks and she said âYou canât do that.â So I said we would need to split it at the end and she said âno problemâ.. Food came out fast so was happy with that and the food was good.. then we got the check⌠everything was handwritten and all on one checks which she dropped and ran so couldnât ask her to split it up. It was really hard to read and we were trying to figure out what family got what⌠She over charged us for our drinks AND THE REASON WE COULDN'T SPLIT THE CHECKâŚ. Because she added the tip already on it!!!!!! And her math wasnât mathing. My cousin and I both added the check up and the it was off by a few dollars, but again she wasnât any where to be found⌠finally she was helping another table and I asked her âDo this already has the tip on it?â And she said âYeah tip and taxâ so if I didnât know any better I probably would of tipped on top of it because we were wondering if that other amount was the tax at first but realized that even though her math was off it wasnât off 11%. Bottom line food was good but the waitress was sketchy as hell and I would suggest that they go to a POS that itemizes everything but then again how would you be able to rip off tourist if you...
Read moreWe recently visited, and while there were notable positive aspects to my visit, I regrettably encountered several issues that detracted from my overall experience.
The service was good. The waiter was very attentive and we did not have any auto tipping as others have mentioned.
While the Fountain Place restaurant does have a bathroom, a rarity in Salem, I'm not sure how it has passed a safety inspection. If you can get past the fact that it's downstairs with two areas to hit your head that do not have a warning, then you will wonder if there's a hole in the floor covered by a mat. I suspect there is because I'm not sure why else there is an oversized mat and I feel like I'm falling through the floor. It was also not clean, which made me wonder if the kitchen was clean.
The chicken sandwich was on special, but honestly looked like they used Shake-n-Bake to cook the chicken. It tasted as mediocre as it sounds. The french fries were good and the omelette was good. Overall, it was edible but felt overpriced. The portions were very large.
The place has so much potential, but l suspect that it's an old building. It's in a prominent location, but it seems like they just don't care. At the bare minimum, I think it could use a deep cleaning and maybe some organic ingredients. A little TLC would go a long way here. My visit was disappointing and I would...
