Take me to your Pizza Salem....When dealing with other worldly things...Flying Saucer Pizza is the place where I ended up landing. This Pizza joint is right behind the Elizabeth Montgomery statute astride a broom and framed by a moon crescent....anyways less moonwalking and more food talking. Myself and earthling approached the hostess. We were led indoors (There is an outdoor patio with black metal tables/chairs; which for you wishing to explore the sun...direct exposure)...So we were brought to our table where our server quickly got our drink order. I had a blue raspberry soda (made in Jamaica Plains, MA)...refreshing at A-, ...Earthling had a Charlie Temple....it was red. He rank it at a A-. We both had refills.
Pro tip, you can order half toppings. We were beyond thrilled because we got to try 4 pizzas for the price of two pizzas ($38). We ordered half a Pickle Rick, half Nick Fury, half Aubrey II, and half Klinger.
First though we had an appetizer. We had Hadouken! ... The only fireball or surge of fist was to my mouth. We picked two sauces. We elected for Red Sauce (Not gravy...perfect perry) which would make a nonna so happy!. But the really winning sauce was their scratch duck sauce. I could be fooled but it was outstanding with an absolutely 💯 👌 👏 🙌 ✨️ meatball. The order came with 5. Oh they offer vegan options! The meatballs were baked and fried....the meat mix was A+.
The pizza came out timely. Sooooo good. The crust was not overly thick, a nice char, no real flop, these are great pies. Stop digging for hidden layers and be impressed! I'm a pickle!". The Pickle Rick was my favorite. Olive Oil, lite cheese, bacon, pickles, and ranch made this pizza made for a great combo. This followed by the Nick Fury. Nick Fury entered my food'verse based on mac n cheese with Sriracha being two of the ingredients.....ooooofff....The Klinger was a deconstructed crab rangoon with duck sauce on a pizza. Solid A and so unique. The last pizza in my ranking was the Aubrey...and true to form as a nod to Little Shop of Horrors by being covered in argula. It was too busy...B+
All in all, the pizzas were fantastic. I am definitely coming back to try some other pies....oh annnnnnd they have dessert.
The atmosphere was light. Comfortable seating. Nice looking bar. The Disney movie, Oliver was playing. Lots of murals to look at. I was able to have a conversation. Wait staff was cool.
We crashed out at 64 plus 12 for tip. The tip was calculated on receipt for those who struggle with percentages.
We will definitely explore this place again. End of...
Read moreThe place is super cool inside! Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who stuff all over the restaurant. This is why I gave them over a one star review. It’s cool seeing stuff like that since it’s not common in most restaurants.
The food was horrible. We went two years ago and it was bad and we went yesterday and it was worse. The pizza was dripping in grease. It was so soggy you had to fold it up like a napkin to even eat it. It was a pile of greasy wet crust. The slice was as large as the plate and only had eight small pepperonis. The meatballs seemed to be previously frozen, they didn’t seem like they were made fresh to order. The outside of them was dry, the sauces we chose to order to dip them in were okay though. It took us forever to get our water and put in our order. We kept going back and forth on what to order yes, but we felt like if you didn’t put in your entire order right at arrival you’re overlooked because so many more people are coming in behind you. Luckily we weren’t in a hurry or anything. I sat there for around 15 min without even being served a water. I guess the only way you get one is to ask for it. The sorts of restaurants I usually go to it’s just standard to serve water to everyone who sits down.
I really wanted this place to be good which is why I gave them two chances two years apart but both times were a disappointment. Don’t waste your money on pizza worse than a mall food court. There are way better options for breakfast, lunch and dinner all over Salem. With the quality of product they serve I have no idea how they still have such...
Read moreThis was a huge disappointment in my trip. My husband and I were very excited to visit Salem, and heard many great things about this place which made us excited to try out. Maybe we caught them on a bad night, but it was unacceptable. The service was horrible as they attempted to turn our group away an hour before closing. If you don’t want customers to come an hour before closing, maybe change your hours? Next, the bartender and services were hostile and rude towards our group. Yes, it may be frustrating to deal with people at the end of the night that may be drinking. But, why work at a bar if you cannot expect the intended behaviors of people who drink. We did not create disturbances or cause any commotion, we sat at the bar talking as any normal person would do while sitting at the bar. My husband tried to also have a conversation with the bartender who made several rude remarks towards him making everyone uncomfortable and wanting to leave. Lastly, the food was horrible. Regardless of if it were a specialty pizza with multiple toppings or a slice of plain pizza (both were ordered) it was floppy with the cheese/toppings sliding off. They also completely messed up one of our orders adding extra of a topping that was asked to not be on the pizza and just also making a completely different pizza from what was ordered.
I would like to give some grace to the staff, but with my experience of owning and managing a pizzeria of my own, I know that this whole situation is unacceptable. I will never suggest this place or return if back...
