We had been on an American Adventure for a couple of weeks and Salem was the last stop for us. After a long drive we pulled up outside the Salem waterfront hotel and suites. We had just had a horrific stay at a 4 star Hilton in Boston, so we were a little nervous as to what our next hotel would hold for us. ||When you pull up you can see the building in all its glory, well maintained and well maintained grounds. We went into reception we were a few hours early for check in but we wanted to see if we could ditch our bags and get out exploring. The reception area is GORGEOUS !! The smell was incredible, there was a lovely roaring fire and the most perfect ambience. The decor is fantastic and all nautical themed but done in a really nice and classy way. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist who actually said our room was ready and that we could check in now. FANTASTIC.||Made our way to the lift and came out on the second floor, as soon as the lift opens you get hit with a gorgeous smell and notice that there is Molton Brown diffusers all over the place creating a home from home atmosphere. ||We had a stunning corner room which gave us a view of the waterfront and on the other side a view of Salem town. The room can only be described as BEAUTIFUL so well appointed, the decors was beautiful, gorgeous soft bed lined and selection of pillows fibre and feather.Safe in the room as well as two fluffy dressing gowns. Four poster bed, large tv, and GREAT air conditioning especially since the temperatures were up at over 32oC. Tea/coffee making facilities and bottled water. The bathroom was well appointed and even came with Bolton brown toiletries and amenity kit. ||The room was IMMACULATE so clean. I can honestly say having travelled the world many times and working for a national airline I have stayed at hotels all over the globe and this ranks as one of the BEST hotels that I have experienced. The staff, the cleanliness and the ambience it was really like being home from home. ||The staff go above and beyond, I noticed a small chip on our bathroom door which the cleaner must have also noticed when cleaning the room and when we came back to the room the staff had maintenance out repaiting the door. Even though we did not report it and it was a minor chip. It just shows the level of detail that the hotel will go to for their customers to ensure an impeccable stay. ||The room was cleaned daily and even the miniature toiletries were replenished along with the bottled water - again just a small detail that went along way especially when we were out exploring just being able to grab the water and go in the morning was ideal.||We used the hotels on site pool which was fantastic especially after walking hours and hours all day exploring Salem and surrounding towns. ||We used the onsite restaurant for breakfast which again was OUTSTANDING, we both agreed that the service received off the waitress was the best we have experienced in the USA, so attentive and helpful and even giving recommendations on what to explore sharing the local knowledge. ||On our last night we decided to eat in the restaurant due to the quality of the food and service we had at our breakfast visits. Our meal was FANTASTIC and again the evening waitress was fantastic, so funny, friendly and helpful. ||I have only one down point ...... That I wish we left our hotel in boston earlier and stayed longer at the SALEM WATERFRONT HOTEL !! ||Honestly the hotel and staff were the cherry on top of the cake for us. It really left a lasting impression on us both. We have not stopped talking about it and recommending it to family. ||I can honestly say if you are going to Salem please please please do not bother booking anywhere else and book the Salem Waterfront hotel and suites. Take it from a well travelled and well stayed experienced traveler this place is FANTASTIC !!||My sister is desperate to visit Salem so we will definitely be returning hopefully in the next couple of years and we cannot wait. Thank you to the team for the phonomenal stay. Please keep up the fantastic work and never...
Read moreAt first glance this hotel looks great and beautiful. The reviews are what made me choose this hotel over a chain hotel in the area or a historic downtown hotel that was a little more centrally located. But I unfortunately didn’t have the same experience as others. The person checking me in wasn’t very personable. She didn’t explain anything about the hotel or where to go for my room. Or even the area. There was another front desk agent and they were explaining everything to the guest they were checking in. I asked about a AAA discount, the site says they offer that, she asked for my card and never. Said another word about it. She didn’t give a AAA discount. It was the same price. I get to my room, clean with Clorox like I always do and then check the beds like I always do. The beds top Layer had hair on it, which normally i wouldn’t excuse, but it was a clingy material and gave the benefit of the doubt that it didn’t come off during the wash. After checking the sheets and didn’t see an issue I sat on the bed. I continued to find hair on it. At that point I should’ve called downstairs but I was trying to not be a pain in the ass since the desk agent already wasn’t too friendly. The room wasn’t properly cleaned either you could see the shortcuts taken. But I cleaned it. So fast forward, after a long night of haunted tours, we get back to the room, it’s around 11 when I finally get to go into bed and there’s snot rubbed on the side of the sheets. Right where you would touch to get into bed. I didn’t look there when I checked out the bed. I looked at the main area. I call downstairs and the guy says I’ll be RIGHT UP with a change of sheets. 30mins pass nothing 45mins still nothing. I go down to the lobby to find out what’s going on and no one was there I went back up thinking we somehow crossed paths but nope. I waited until the hour mark and went back downstairs. There’s now a woman at the desk who tells me she’s new and has been searching the hotel looking for sheets and cannot find them. She contacted management and no one has gotten back to her. I asked what I’m supposed to do bc I can’t sleep in that. I wish I had thought or they had offered to change my room, I doubt they were sold out, but that wasn’t an offer. I decided my only choice was to share a bed which is ridiculous. I asked her if they were going to do something with the cost bc that was truly not acceptable and she said yes it was notated in my account. I felt bad for her bc she truly tried and seemed like she did care so I left it alone. I didn’t come to stay in a hotel with two beds and share one. But clearly the housekeeping staff thought it was acceptable to change one set of sheets and not the other. It probably looked unused by the last person and they decided to cut corners. The next day housekeeping came to change the sheets. Upon my checkout I unfortunately got the same person I had when I checked in. Still not personable or communicative. I asked her if they had adjusted the price of the stay since they said they were going to due to the filthy sheets? They actually didn’t do it. She did it I guess. They took off $70 from a $570 bill. 2 nights, $570 and you gave me $70. It should’ve at least been half a night. 2 beds only One could be used I think half a night was fair but whatever. And there was never a AAA discount taken. Oh btw I was with a family member and we had to share a bed. Smh. Not a spouse or a significant other. Just do yourself a favor, either completely inspect the room as soon as you Get there so housekeeping is more than likely still there? Or book elsewhere at a less expensive place that might offer a better experience. The location was good the parking was decent. We didn’t eat in the restaurant, we did eat in the pizza place behind and they had decent food and great service. You can walk to a good amount of attractions from this hotel just beware of the cleanliness...
Read moreI hate writing this review, because the location of this hotel is spectacular, in particular if you want to attend the Halloween festivities. I spent two nights at this hotel in a king room. When we arrived at our room the heater and air conditioner didn't work, so in the room was a portable floor heater and portable floor air conditioner. For our entire stay the internet and computer systems were down at the hotel, so some features of a high end, high priced, hotel were not available for our entire stay. To their credit, upon our exit we brought up our concerns and they gave us a financial accommodation that we appreciated. Because of the computer issues we did not get our bill until after we departed and only then did we see that a large deposit we made upon making the reservation (a year ago) was not credited to our invoice. I called to reconcile this seemingly simple issue, but the person I spoke with couldn't figure it out and said I would have to talk with Derek. I was told he was the General Manager. 5 hours later I still hadn't received a call back, so I called and left another message and I was assured he would call me back. Past mid-day, the next day, I still hadn't received a phone call from Derek, so I called to speak with his supervisor. I was put on hold for more than 10 minutes and then disconnected. I called back numerous times and was either hung up on or pushed back onto hold without so much as an answer from someone at the front desk. I later learned that the credit had been made to my account the previous day, but no one had let me know. How hard would it have been for Derek to get on the phone, apologize for not getting back to me and let me know that the credit had been given? I would have left satisfied and happy to recommend the Salem Waterfront Hotel and Suites. The rest of the staff are very nice and accommodating, in particular in the restaurant and front desk. Other than the heating/air conditioning issue, the room was comfortable and clean. I would love to recommend this hotel, but I have never been turned off in the manner I experienced when I was trying to reconcile an issue that was clearly a mistake on their part. Stay at your own risk. Don't expect a respectful interaction with the General...
