Haven't had the chance to try the gelato here since I have a severe nut allergy. Obviously, having a nut allergy means that you constantly have to be on high alert and notify staff at restaurants and other food establishments of the allergy, and the staff would usually either accommodate, bring a menu which lists allergens, and try to be helpful and respectful.
This was NOT the case at Sweetaly. I walked into the shop with friends, let the server know I had a severe nut allergy, and asked if it would be safe to order. The girl who was serving very rudely told me that everything in the case was probably cross contaminated already, so I told her I was no longer interested. Then, in the most condescending tone, she kept repeating loudly in front of the crowded shop, "do you still want some, DO YOU STILL WANT SOME??"
The way she handled it was very rude, embarrassing, and hurtful. I've posted a review on Yelp about this, which the business hid!! The owner claims that since it's a small business, they can't guarantee no cross-contamination. Of course, I understand that. This is an ice cream shop with all these different nut flavors, OBVIOUSLY there is that risk, and people with nut allergies live their life understanding that there is ALWAYS that risk, but that doesn't mean I can't go out and live my life either, and that also doesn't mean that businesses can't take small extra steps to show their customers that they care. How does this business have vegan flavors and guarantee that those are 100% vegan with no cross-contamination, but can't accommodate for nut allergies?? Vegan diets are a choice. Food allergies are NOT a CHOICE. Very disappointed by the way I was treated here, and want to let anyone who has any sort of life threatening food allergies, steer clear of this place, because the staff doesn't seem to truly care about their customers. "Buon gelato a tutti!" is a joke.
Honestly, I would not be so vocal and angry about this shop had I been treated with just the smallest bit of kindness. There have been several ice cream shops, restaurants, you name it, who have turned me away with the upmost respect in mind, assuring me that they are sorry and they just don't want anyone to get hurt through cross contamination, which I truly appreciated. There are ways to handle this better, and your staff certainly did not.
I DID reach out to you directly, and I received no response. Hence leaving this review. And you seem to have missed the point entirely. Your server was VERY rude, condescending, and unprofessional, making a mockery out of someone with an allergy. That's what was unacceptable, that's why I am leaving my review. Train your staff to handle these situations with better...
Read moreHi! I recently had the pleasure of visiting your gelateria and wanted to share some feedback regarding my experience.
Location: 10/10 Ambience: 10/10 Service: 10/10 Ice cream: 7/10 Tiramisu: 6/10
Despite the excellent location and inviting atmosphere, I felt the gelato itself didnât quite reach the depth and balance of flavours expected from authentic Italian gelato. To clarify: itâs a very good ice cream, but as a gelato, it falls slightly short in flavour definition and texture.
We tried the almond, hazelnut, pistachio, coconut, and Ferrero. My personal favourite was the hazelnut (nocciola) â it had a pleasant creaminess and a natural, well-rounded flavour. However, the Ferrero was my least favourite; it tasted predominantly of dark chocolate, without capturing the nutty or creamy notes typically expected from a flavour inspired by Ferrero.
Regarding the tiramisu, unfortunately, it didnât meet expectations. The sponge felt dry, and the mascarpone lacked freshness and flavour intensity. The cream came across as flat, missing that rich, velvety texture and balanced sweetness characteristic of a well-crafted tiramisĂš.
If I may offer a suggestion: focusing on enhancing the creaminess and texture of the gelato, alongside refining the balance of flavours, could elevate your product to a truly artisanal level.
Thank you for the experience â I look forward to returning and seeing how you continue to develop...
Read moreFirst I have to preface that I loooove gelato. Like I donât just like ice cream or dessert in general but I will travel for fresh gelato! They have a good traditional menu option here with pistachio, tiramisu, dark chocolate, hazelnut, Raffaello, mars alone and such.
The girls who serve are friendly as well. Now this was back in Early April but they also allow you sample pretty much however many flavors you like which is great because I hate it when gelato places limit you to like two samples! This can be annoying because every gelato place makes their gelato a different consistency and sometimes overly soft or too sweet. Sweetaly does not disappoint! I religiously buy their pistachio cookies which are surprisingly not too sweet and actually have some pistachio flavor. Every time I go back to Atl I buy three bags.
I had the hazelnut gelato which wasnât too hazelnut sweet flavor which I appreciated and the tiramisu is decadently light.
Recently when I went two days ago they no longer allow samples. Boo~ but since Iâm familiar w/ the good flavors ok w/ me. Their cookies still consistently good. Itâs a cross between the lightness of a Madeleine and the texture of...
