To say that I am disappointed in this last experience with Yanni's is truly an understatement. My wife went through the drive thru at Yanni's tonight for the first time (I've been to Yanni's many times over the years). She ordered the two chicken souvlaki's dinners and was charged $9.60 and away she went to go eat with the kids. Upon opening the sack, there was the two skewers of chicken on a piece of lettuce and two lemon wedges. No rice or pita, which is what the dinners are. When I got home from work tonight, she told me her experience and her thought that the two skewers were a ripoff for $9.60. I explained to her that there should have been more to the meal. So I decided to call Yanni's Greek Express to explain what happened. I was surprised when the girl who answered the phone failed to show any concern for me as a customer with a concern. When I explained my concern regarding the issue, I was given the following statement: "When you order through the drive thru and ask for a chicken stick, that's what you get. Chicken on a stick." There was no effort to try and make it right or to offer an apology, just blatant disregard for the customer and a "that's just how it is" attitude. Because of this experience, I have decided that I can no longer choose to patronize Yanni's Greek Express....
Read moreThought I could grab a reliable bite to eat pretty quick since I just moved back to the area after over a decade. I walked because it's less than 1/4 mile. As I approached, I saw a sign on the door that read, "lobby closed, drive thru only." I had already tried to order ahead with an app; I could find nothing available app-wise. So I called the location directly as I stood outside the building. The call was answered quickly (kinda crabby, maybe), and I conveyed my issue - "I would like some of your food, but I don't have a car with me." "WHAT?" was the reply. So I calmly and clearly repeated myself, along with "I'm outside your building." "No. Too bad," followed with- seriously- "F. U." And I was hung up on. I then took observation of the operation: all window blinds were pulled shut, making the interior very obscure. What used to be a sidewalk for customers was now nearly black with grease/grime, comparable only to the rear dumpster doors at grocery stores and other high volume 'foodery' buildings. I silently thanked them for turning me away, even though I had really, really wanted a long awaited Gyro... I don't know what has led to their seeming demise, but I'm finding the fact that they are still doing business, a little difficult...
Read moreI have been coming here for at least 10 years. Always delicious! Sometimes the soulvaki meat is a little dry, but still good. Way flavorful rice, and good, thick pita.
Editing 7 years later: I am still a die-hard fan of Yannis. They have the very best lemon rice of any place in Salt Lake I've been to. For a while there I felt like maybe Greek Souvlaki did it better, but I've since changed my opinion. You just can't beat Yannis rice, pita, and Dolmathes. Nobody talks about the Dolmathes! I get them anytime I see them on a menu, and Yannis is still my favorite. I usually order a side of rice, dolmathes, pita, and a side of feta. By the by, their feta isn't that shredded garbage like they use at Greek Souvlaki and elsewhere, it's huge hunks of fresh feta. I'm Greek.... Real pieces of feta is important :) I pour the juices from the Dolmathes into my lemon rice and squeeze a whole bunch more fresh lemon on and it's heavenly.
I'll never stop coming to Yannis, I'm nearly 30 and have been coming here since I was probably 7 with my family. Thanks for the years of...
