A group of us went to Alamo Cafe on I10 last evening, arriving between 6:00-6:30 and there were about 20+ of us; yes, we called way ahead and made reservations. My husband and I had the chicken fajitas for two and it was awful; chicken dry, hardly an onion in sight and no peppers, the rice was way salty and we had to go in search of tortillas. No refills on drinks or plates taken away. There were two severs at the beginning, to take our order; a male and a female, but after orders were taken, only the male. Time for our tickets to pay...OH MY! They handed this poor guy, who explained it was his first week there, a stack of tickets in search of their owners. I got my ticket and thought it would be helpful to take it to the front and pay as he definitely had his hands full. Got to the front and there was a girl there who angrily told me she was the cook and would not take my payment. So I went back and left the money with the ticket on the table. There were MANY employees there! Any I encountered were preoccupied, visiting with each other and rude when I was able to talk to one. WHY on earth would they give such a large party to a poor guy who had just started and from what I could tell had very minimal experience in waiting tables??? And why with all the employees standing around would someone not help him. There were maybe six tables in the whole restaurant, but definitely more employees than patrons. And the thing that surprised me also was how unclean the place was. We have visited the Alamo Cafe on 281 on MANY occasions and have NEVER had any of these problems there. Extremely disappointing! We will not be back to the one on I10 and our group will find another place to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEveryone here are extremely welcoming from the time you walk in until you walk out. Wait staff are excellent every single time we went there and we went there 5 times in 9 days on our vacation! I had the cheese enchiladas twice and they are the best I've ever had. I had the chicken fried steak 2 times (yes in a Mexican restaurant) and I can't say enough about how good it was along with the cream gravy. I had the ground beef puffy tacos and they were excellent. My husband had the fajitas 3 times and the ground beef puffy tacos twice and said everything was excellent. Not to forget the warm flour tortillas they bring to your table with butter, everyone needs to taste these, they're homemade right there and are excellent. We bought 2 dozen flour and 2 dozen corn tortillas, at lunch the day we left to come home, to take home with us and they gladly wrapped them up for the trip home. As soon as you sit down they put chips and salsa on your table and take your drink order. I give this restaurant 10 stars out of 5 and wish they'd open one in Layton, Utah where we live. It would have to be a pretty big restaurant because Hill Air Force Base is there along with all the civil service workers who would flock to this restaurant for lunch and dinner AND US! Thank you ALAMO CAFE for your delicious food and drinks! I'm from San Antonio, Texas and have been going to this restaurant forever and will continue everytime we visit. As soon as we checked into our hotel we drove as fast as we could to eat the best Mexican Food in San Antonio, Texas and we were not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband & I have eaten there many times. At this time, I brought a friend. She had never eaten there. Your food is usually is good. Unfortunately, there was some kind of change with your portions sizes & quality of the food. Before I left, I asked for an order of corn tortillas & had received 2 flour tortillas instead of the packaged corn. This was to go. My friend's salad was extremely small for what you charged. The puffy tacos that I had were not even pluffed & seemed like they weren't cooked enough. It looked like it was placed in the oil & taken out of the oil. We ordered our food & about 5 minutes later it arrived. Not enough time for the food to be cooked properly. Need to check what goes on on the kitchen. I also have dietary restrictions. You have always been good. My plate had too small of a portions. It looked like it I had 1/4:cup of rice with a very small cup of borracho beans. The service was ok but felt a bit rushed. At that time, there weren't too many people in your restaurant. I was charged $13.00 for that portion of vegetarian tacos. Plus I ordered 2 other meals to go. Altogether the charge was $59.00 with a tip was $64.00. We understand about food prices. It is expensive now to buy your supplies.I get that. What happened to the food quality? Extremely small portions?. Really. Disappointed. Yesterday, Because of my friendgave you a benefit of a doubt...
