The quality of ingredients is very good, and the quantity is completely satisfying. The hard veggies were cooked perfectly: retaining their texture but soft enough to eat comfortably; not at all mushy. And the rice, like everything else, was expertly prepared. The combination of flavours, notably between the sausage and the curry sauce, was delicious; I put that down less to the very good sausage and more to what I have to think is the best Panang curry sauce I've ever had. (For one thing, the strong flavour of peanuts, a major ingredient, was kept subtle.) And there was just enough of it to moisten and flavour everything in the bowl without producing a souplike puddle.
My wife's Magic Mushroom was, essentially, the same dish, but with marinated mushrooms instead of sausage, and a green curry sauce instead of Panang. I had a couple of tastes of it, and found it as well-made as my own dish. The sweetness of the curry sauce was particularly noticeable, which I like.
The only less-than-excellent thing about the food we ordered was the edamame. The pods were served in a light sauce of some kind (the menu just calls it a "Thai sauce") that seemed to lean heavily on red peppers. The pods themselves were listed as "smoked," but I couldn't identify any kind of smoky flavour about them. And they were unusually tough to get open; I finally had to try stringing them like old-style green beans, but even that didn't often work. Most of them are still in our refrigerator, awaiting a burst of industriousness that may not come.
The ambiance of the restaurant seems to be going for a kind of modern we-don't-really-care funkiness. The dining room isn't large -- they may do a lot more take-out than dine-in service -- yet it has a kind of open feel to it, a relaxing space comfortably but inexpensively furnished. I suspect that if I had been there on a typical Friday or Saturday night, it would have been crowded with college-aged and 20-something patrons, but a quiet Tuesday evening was perfect for an older couple like us ... though we're neither of us as grown up as people seem to think.
I do have one complaint about the ambience of the place, and that is the environmental wastefulness of disposable utensils and single-use plastic cups and go-boxes. They serve the food in bowls that have to be washed; I'm not sure what their reasoning was in deciding they couldn't economically wash and re-use forks and spoons at the same time. (I'm theorizing they use a...

We found Curry Boys the way all great modern food adventures begin—by scrolling Instagram while packing suitcases. Visiting from Portland, Oregon, we were immediately intrigued by their technicolor bowls and the bold marriage of Southeast Asian curry with Texas BBQ. Let’s just say: reality did not disappoint.
Our group of four (myself, my husband, my mother-in-law, and her longtime friend) rolled in ready to feast—and feast we did.
The Smoke Show (Brisket version) was exactly that: a tender, smoky spectacle. The brisket was deeply flavorful, and the Penang curry gave it an aromatic, spicy richness that somehow made Texas feel like it had a passport. My MIL and her friend were in brisket nirvana.
The Tony Porker (my husband’s choice—yes, partly for the name) was equally fantastic. The pulled pork was rich and juicy, and again, that Penang curry struck this gorgeous balance of heat, coconut creaminess, and complexity that elevated everything it touched.
I wasn’t as hungry, so I opted for the Fresh Herb & Cucumber Slaw, which was everything I needed it to be—light, zesty, with just the right herbaceous punch. It’s rare for a slaw to steal the spotlight, but this one danced right up to the mic and took a bow.
We shared the Chips + Curry Queso (yes, it’s as addictive as it sounds—smoky, cheesy, curry magic) and the Smoked Edamame, which was tossed in a sweet Thai chili glaze with just enough kick to make you reach for another… and another… and maybe lick your fingers a little if no one’s watching.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere at Curry Boys was vibrant, fun, and unpretentious—with a clear sense of care and pride in every detail. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm. The place was clean and cool without trying too hard—like that effortlessly stylish friend who somehow always knows the best food trucks.
In short: If you’re anywhere near San Antonio—or even just scrolling from far away like we were—Curry Boys BBQ is a must. It’s bold. It’s unexpected. It’s full of heart. And it just might be the best culinary mashup we’ve had in a long, long time.
Five stars. Zero regrets....

While visiting San Antonio for a business trip, I was on a late-night date, searching for a good spot to eat before places closed at 10 PM. After two other locations were either closed or too packed, Curry Boys BBQ became our third choice—and I’m so glad it was!
Food & Drinks • Unfortunately, they were out of brisket, which was my first choice, but the staff gave great recommendations based on my love for sweet and spicy flavors. • We started with pulled pork nachos—loaded with brisket, cilantro, barbecue sauce, and tortilla chips.Absolutely delicious and a great way to kick off the meal. • For the main course, we both got the Good Luck Cluck rice bowl on the staff’s recommendation. It was packed with flavor, perfectly balanced with spice, sweetness, and smokiness. • I paired it with a Belgian white draft beer, which was light, slightly sweet, and refreshing. • The portions were generous, and everything was so good that I ate every bite in one sitting.
Atmosphere & Ambience • The restaurant is a bright pink building, which definitely stands out! It felt like a hole-in-the-wall gem—and those always impress me. • We arrived late, so we had the whole place to ourselves, which made the experience even better. • The decor inside was quirky and unique, with interesting placements of random objects—like a TV in a fireplace surrounded by wood. The artwork and decorations added to the charm and personality of the spot. • The bathroom was clean, smelled great, and felt comfortable—a small but important detail!
Service & Overall Experience • The staff was fantastic! They took their time recommending dishes based on my preferences, even though we arrived close to closing time. • The total came to about $64 for two people, which was on the pricier side, but we ordered premium menu items and everything was worth it. • I highly recommend this place and will absolutely return to try the brisket next time!
⭐ Final Rating: 5/5 – A must-visit spot for flavorful, unique BBQ with a great atmosphere and...
