A Slice of New York Heaven Found in the Heart of San Antonio: FatHead Pizza - A Culinary Revelation!
Forget the Alamo, folks! If you're wandering through the vibrant pulse of San Antonio, your pilgrimage must include a stop at FatHead Pizza, a recent sensation nestled in the historic embrace of the Exchange Building at 152 E Pecan St, Suite 101. As a born and bred New Yorker, my pizza standards aren't just high; they're practically carved in stone alongside the Statue of Liberty. So, when I tell you FatHead delivered an experience that resonated with the very soul of a perfect New York slice, believe it! Stepping inside, despite its fresh April 2024 genesis, FatHead exudes a confident, modern charm. Forget dusty relics; this space is a sleek, well-designed haven, a testament to contemporary aesthetics that still feels inviting and warm. Its prime location in the heart of downtown places it within a stone's throw of iconic landmarks. You could easily stroll over after soaking in the history of the Alamo, catching a show at the Majestic Theatre just around the corner, or exploring the lively River Walk, a mere block away. It’s a perfect pitstop to fuel your San Antonio adventures. But let's get down to the real reason we're here: the pizza. I indulged in two slices that transported me straight back to my favorite Brooklyn haunts. The Peppers and Meatball was a symphony of savory delights, the slight sweetness of the peppers a perfect counterpoint to the robust, seasoned meatballs. And the Peppers and Pepperoni? A classic executed flawlessly, the pepperoni offering that satisfying salty-spicy kick dancing on my palate, while the peppers provided a fresh, vibrant contrast. The true testament to a masterful pizza lies in its foundation, and FatHead understands this implicitly. The undercarriage boasted a glorious crispness, yielding with a satisfying crunch that echoed my delight. And the belly? Absolutely no soggy bottom here. This wasn't some watery mess; each slice stood proud and firm, a testament to expert craftsmanship. The flavors weren't just present; they were vibrant, distinct entities engaging in a lively dance party on my taste buds. Each bite was an independent burst of deliciousness, a testament to the quality of ingredients and the care in their preparation. Beyond the stellar slices, the Charcuterie board was a revelation. The prosciutto was simply divine – shaved impossibly thin, boasting a freshness that spoke volumes. It possessed that elusive "funk" that defines a truly exceptional Italian cured meat, a subtle complexity avoiding any sharp tanginess. And let's talk about value! The 2 for $6 Mikkalo Ultra special was an absolute steal. The service was equally impressive. My waiter was a whirlwind of efficiency and enthusiasm – quick, on point, very nice, and clean, delivering his recommendations with a fast, swift, and smooth cadence, remarkably clear and delivered with genuine loud and infectious enthusiasm. While my experience was overwhelmingly positive, online reviews echo similar sentiments, praising the quality, perfect cooking, and friendly service. The modern and clean ambiance is frequently mentioned, making it a comfortable spot. Its location within the historic Exchange Building, built in the early 20th century, adds a touch of intrigue. So, if you find yourself navigating San Antonio, seek out FatHead Pizza. Indulge in a slice (or two!) that would make any New Yorker proud. It’s a taste of authentic pizza passion, served with Texas charm. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you for this...

Read more5 stars? This place would get 10 if Google let me. The young gentleman seating and serving people was not only attentive, timely and happy. He was also patient and poise. The restaurant was backing up quickly with people waiting outside and he didn't panic he continued to seat people and give them the utmost attention and care while getting people checked out quickly. The gentleman making the pizzas was also very poised and patient. The orders were coming in fast and he continued to do everything quickly, efficiently and most of all to food standards of safety. At one time he realized the gentleman seating people hadn't talked to a customer for their order yet so he directly took the order of the person waiting at the bar seating area. That's customer service! Like I had mentioned the place was packed and within 15 mins we had our drinks, our order taken and the pizza arrive to our table. That's top notch service from 2 very professional gentleman. The pizza was made perfectly, not too much sauce, not too much toppings but the exact perfect combination of both. The entire menu had great options and was easy and simple to read. Hats off. This was our 2nd time here in 3 days while we were in town. If I ever make it back we will be...
