Ordered Impossible Diablo’s last night and got beef instead of Impossible meat. Being plant-based Pescatarians, we eat Impossible, Beyond and Gardein all the time. We know the distinct flavors and textures. We’ve also had the Impossible Burger from Hop Doddy numerous times before and were just there a few months ago. We ordered at 8:30 PM, half an hour before closing. That’s a decent amount of time to not get mad that a customer came in half-an-hour before a cook shuts down to not be angry at customers coming in. We were in the food industry once upon a time so we know when cooks and servers wanted to hurry up and go home. (This is probably why the review below me had over salted fries). We would have made a burger ourselves, but we had just finished donating books for an Elementary school and it was late and we wanted to grab something. To go all the way home just to find out that it was a really flat, beef burger was disappointing. Impossibles are more on the dry side with the pink line down the middle with a distinct taste. I wake up this morning with my body trying to adjust to the taste tested beef sitting in my stomach. They claimed that they were using a clam shell grill, but even if you were, why would you smash the heck out of it? It’s like, you either smashed it on top of beef grease, or smashed a beef burger to smithereens. Go on the Hop Doddy website, look on all social media platforms, none of the need or Impossibles are flat and smashed to oblivion. The point of the Impossible is to see the controversial “bleeding” plant hemoglobins. We eat plant-based 95% of the time and are trying to go back to being Vegan. WE CAN TELL. The girl on the phone was nice but was talking a million miles per hour until the Manager CJ got on the phone and calmly explained himself. Poor kid tried his best to handle the situation and find the words. He is giving us a refund which I should expect in 2 days. I’ll update this with a 5 star next time we come in for an Impossible but we should probably stick with the Austin location. I remember when I was a cook, I would never serve someone a beef burger over a plant-based one because you never know their story of why they’re eating plant-based and I was a server who served the Owner of Hop Doddy in Austin and I wouldn’t dare serve him what he didn’t order. Mistakes happen, but not that major. The honey sage fries were...
Read moreAtmosphere & service would be higher except we walked in and a big (yet groomed) hairy dog was on the floor by a patron at the bar. Being highly allergic the first thing that stood out was the smell. We chose to eat outside. Now if you're gonna take the stance that service dogs (this dog clearly wasn't) should be allowed, you also need to show compassion to humans with allergies. For example, you don't sterilize you're now dirty restaurant when they leave. Other dog lovers wanna pet and rub the dog, then go grab condiments, touch doors, self serve equipment etc contaminating your entire store deeming it unsafe for paying customers like myself. Yall didnt even mop the floor when this dog and its owner left. Its my responsibility to alert you if I'm allergic to gluten, certain oils etc, and you will accomodate me but if i alert you that I'm allergic to the non paying animal you have resting with a patron at your bar, then theres no way to accommodate me? Its, stay at your own risk? What if I came in after the dog left and had an allergy attack because yall do nothing to sterilize simply because i grabbed some contaminated napkins? What then? Lastly, the food was rated 2 stars because i couldnt use all the condiments available nor wanted a drink due to the disregard and non-sanitary actions of...
Read moreThis is my first time ever coming to Hopdoddy...I'd never heard of it before.
I ordered the mushroom burger, sweet potato fries, and a strawberry shake.
The burger was incredible! I don't think I was expecting a hand-crafted, artisanal sandwich, but that's what was delivered. The mushrooms were perfectly grilled, not soggy or too numerous. The beef was well seasoned, and the saltiness of the goat cheese paired surprisingly well with the unctuous pesto. The bread was toasted enough to make it warm, but it was still soft and also sturdy enough to hold the burger. The fresh vegetables helped balance the savory aspect of the sandwich.
My only recommendation is to cut the goat cheese by 25-50% or add a pickle spear. The saltiness of the cheese was overpowering at times, but not to the point of disgust.
The fries were hot and adequately crispy, and the shake was thick, creamy, and cold.
The staff was all smiles, the place was clean.
Only "cons" are: it's kinda loud in here. The music could come down a few notches. food is on the pricey side, and you tip the crew before you enjoy your experience. this is a cashless store. Cards only.
These are small complaints. I will...
