I suffered a relapse with Multiple Sclerosis in August of 2024. Unfortunately, it landed me in the hospital before and over my birthday. When I was discharged, my daughter reserved and hosted a dinner for me and my small family at Isidore. Isidore had just opened at Pullman Market and the menu promised, and delivered on, a Texas-inspired culinary experience. Fast forward several months and I concocted a plan to honor the friends-turned-family who helped me during those months of medical uncertainty and its aftermath. I reached out (via email) to Pullman Markets events team requesting a quote for a small event rate. Ashley contacted me within 24 hours and we set about planning the perfect evening. I decided to host my appreciation dinner in Isidore's small event space. Ashley assisted in connecting me with the floral department in Pullman Market to create mini dried flower bouquets to serve as place card holders and volunteered to receive floral bouquets I ordered for the table. I selected, revised, and added dishes from Isidore's creative menu and with each change, Ashley adapted and responded in a timely manner. On the day of my event, Ashley was in touch and provided updates to changes, confirmation, and schedule. We arrived at the dinner to see the staff finishing up the decor and table set up. Everyone on the team came together to rearrange the table setup to suit my preference. Even Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph, one of the minds behind Pullman Market and their concepts stop in to thank me for hosting at Isidore and made sure I had everything I needed to enjoy the evening. Once the guests arrived, the staff was diligent in keeping the drinks and food flowing. Friends oohed and aah'd over the menu items, claiming they don't know how they were going to go back to "boring food" again. The highlights of the evening, excluding the optional wine pairings or the bread and butter old fashioned, were the pork rib chop and the waygu beef tartare. We never wanted for anything because the staff was so attentive and engaged. You can't put a price on memories and gatherings like this, but I have to because it's practical. You'll spend about $2-3K hosting an evening like this for your closest friends. If I had to do it all over again for the cost, I absolutely would.

Holy smokes… When did San Antonio decide to start upping its cuisine and elevate the quality of food around here? We stopped in for the opening night for my birthday and from the tiny details to the grand finale, loved every bit of this place. I checked in for my reservation, sat quickly and when the server came, was greeted by my last name and wished a happy birthday. Like wth, I can’t remember the last fine dining place that did this. We ordered some apps (all top notch, nothing disappointed). We did end up sharing the dry aged steak due to the apps and man that was solid! The best part for us was the open kitchen concept. That brought “The Bear” type vibes being able to see the kitchen and the chef and cooks going to town on the food back there. It was such a great experience. Cocktails, wine menu (btw they have sommeliers here too so you know you’ll get some solid pairings and recommendations) were stellar. Hella good cocktails and amazing were stellar for sure. All in all, the food was great but the service was none like I have experienced in SA in a very long time. Only disclaimer I would put out is that it is PRICEY but you get what you pay for. So budget for this if you’re not used to $150+ bills for 2. All in all, great food, great people’s great experience. What else can you ask for?

Composing this review for Isidore proved challenging, as I would have preferred to award a higher rating. In summary, while Isidore excels in both the quality of its cuisine and the attentiveness of its service, the portion sizes are notably modest and the pricing somewhat ambitious. Although my companion and I are health-conscious individuals with modest appetites, the servings felt insubstantial for any guest. The server told us that they serve family-style meals and sides, but in reality, all the portions are meant for a single person. I can't imagine a family of four sharing one order of chicken nuggets, which includes only two pieces and costs $8 (In my posted photo we placed an order for 4 pieces which was $16), or a 12-ounce steak priced at $86. Even the goat cheese yogurt dessert, likely just 3 ounces, is $14. I wholeheartedly appreciate paying a premium for exceptional ingredients and an inviting ambiance—qualities that Isidore undoubtedly possesses. However, it is disappointing to depart a restaurant still feeling hungry after a $300 meal. Were Isidore to consider a 25% reduction in menu prices or a 25% increase in portion sizes across the board, I believe its long-term prospects would be exceptionally promising.

I've been here a few times and each time is consistently fantastic.

  1. the food is phenomenal. I love the local texas focus with creative ingredients and innovative preparations. So many interesting things to discover like gulf oysters that were bred to rival the flavor of smaller east coast varieties.

  2. the steak gets it's own shout out here. Hands down my favorite steak in town and I've done my research. It's consistently phenomenal and they only serve the highest quality available fresh from the butcher. It ain't cheap, but you truly are paying for quality here and it's worth it for special occasions (or more often if you can!)

  3. the staff and the service are outstanding and beats the standards for san antonio by miles. I feel so welcomed coming here and it's a lovely feeling when so many people remember you after only a handful of visits. But also, I love how expertly all of them are trained in understanding the food and how well they can describe the ingredients, cooking methods and origins. This level of knowledge is unparalleled in town- even from the Michelin rated joints.

  4. the beverage program here is outstanding. The cocktails are creative and the wine selection is tremendous. There's something for everyone here and the sommelier knows how to recommend wine for all price points and palates. This is the way it should be but it's not so easy to find.

This place is a 10 out 10....

We recently visited Isidore at Pullman Market in San Antonio for the second time, and once again it was an exceptional experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and seated right away. The laid-back atmosphere was perfect — lively without being too loud, so we could actually enjoy a conversation.

Service was a true standout. Our server welcomed us with refreshing hand towels and tea, setting the tone for the evening. We ordered two cocktails, the Black Spur and the Terrier Line. While they took a little extra time to prepare, the bartender personally came to our table to explain the delay, which we really appreciated, a small gesture that made the experience even better.

That evening’s menu was a special collaboration with Mixtli, and it was a delight to see the creative mix of both kitchens. We loved that the menu highlighted ingredients from Texas and turned them into thoughtful, flavor-packed dishes. Every plate felt innovative and full of passion, the kind of cooking where you can truly taste the care that went into it.

Overall, both the food and service were top-notch, making it one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve had in San Antonio. We’re already looking forward to returning, especially for future collaborations with Mixtli or other local chefs. It’s exciting to see restaurants like Isidore push boundaries while staying rooted in local flavor but also...
