My friend took me out a few weeks ago for my birthday and we ended up at the Pearl. After brunch, we shopped around and she took me here to show me all the cool, unique items they stock, while some things were overpriced, it was fun looking around. I fell in love with some stationery and my friend convinced me to buy it and told me they give a birthday discount. Upon check out, I told the gal it was my birthday and she shrugged. I then mentioned I was told they do birthday discounts and she responded that they only give discounts to their customers. I was so confused by this. My friend saw the awkward exchange and came up to see what was happening. We asked who counts as a "customer" and she said people who sign up are customers. We then asked if I could sign up to be a customer, and she seemed to pause to consider this option and decided that we found a loophole in the system, and that I could indeed sign up (with email) and then be a "Customer" to receive the discount. The girl was not friendly or personable (never said hi or mentioned helping us when we walked in). The whole experience was awkward and it didn't feel customer focused (which is kind of the whole point of a boutique shop). My friend was embarrassed by the exchange and said she and her husband had dealt with a different (friendly, warm) gal previously when they purchased a piece of artwork. I'm not sure if the customer service varies based on the employee, or the amount you are spending, but either way, I don't have a huge...
Read moreI absolutely LOVE this little shop! The owner has such exquisite taste that it makes for a remarkable selection in the store. I mean she travels to Paris and New York to bring back goodies that I know for a fact you cannot find anywhere else in San Antonio and maybe even the whole state. For example, they carry all the Trudon candles and I think there's only one other location in a stuffy part of town to find those.
Yes some of the items are more pricey, but for things like the aforementioned candles, it matches the price you'd pay for them online. However, you don't get to smell them online and you don't get the curation that you find here. Plus, they also carry reasonably priced items too if you look (like volsupa candles which are a fraction of the price for candles from Paris). And they don't treat you any different if you're on a budget which some high end shops do. This place is a winner for customer service.
I love this little shop for treasure hunting. There are few places or people that I trust their taste so much- and I'm a snob about these things because I've traveled the world and know what is worth it and what's not. This place makes me happy and is...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend stopped in the store to look around while we were on our weekend trip. The store was set up beautifully and smelled so nice , but our experience was turned sour soon after walking in. As we were walking around one of the staff walked up asked to hold the things that were in mind behind the counter and she didn’t ask the lady next to us with her hands full of stuff and as a black women I felt very singled out and we still brought and paid for the things we picked up but that really did make us feel some...
