I paid a base rate of $398 for a King room & sofa bed with balcony on the river side, 2/15-2/16, which I suspect was inflated (~200%) for Valentineās Day getaways. It should be obvious that a couple wouldnāt bring a child or need the sofa bed for a romantic getawayā¦
The bathroom: has a sliding door that does not lock and which is very loud when it rolls, has good water pressure in the sink but terrible (no) water pressure in the shower, does not have a fan or white noise, so all room occupants can hear every sound, did not have a tub in our room, though some do, and there are no pictures on the website.
We reserved a room for three occupants, yet there were two bath towels in the bathroom - we requested and received more. There were also no linens for the sofa bed, but we requested and received them.
The thermostat to control the a/c and room fan is sensitive and did not work as expected. It was frustrating, and we spent much of the night in āsilenceā or listening to someone elseās music through our window. The floor is hard and there is nothing in the room to dampen noise.
The mattress is very firm. This is a personal preference thing so it did not affect my review but may be important to others in the future.
The restaurant being cajun is a weird choice for San Antonio in my view. We did not eat there other than a $7 (!) bottle of Shiner Bock and a small cake, which was tasty.
There had been several days of rain preceding our visit, so while the gas fire on the outside deck/patio area was turned on, the cushions for the seating area around the fire remained cold and wet. I expect this would be pleasant on summer evenings, but again you would hear everything from the room.
The weather was pleasant, so the balcony was nice. You can see the river clearly, although the area around and beyond the river is currently kind of rough.
This hotel is a $10-$15 one-way rideshare or a 15-20 minute walk from the touristy part of the Riverwalk. There are no nearby hotels or stores. I think the Pearl is probably the closest, but I canāt recommend walking there from the hotel, especially at night.
The hotel has a small, unsecured surface lot across the street, and we paid $40 (!!) for one night of this self-parking opportunity, which is absolutely ridiculous for this part of town.
Overall, the hotel accomplished the core requirement of being somewhere we could sleep in relative safety and comfort, but it was a pretty big disappointment for two global traveling...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe hotel itself is beautiful, clean, and has a signature scent. The rooms are spacious, with high ceilings, and nicely decorated. We were not greeted as a Bonvoyage member, nor offered our customary upgrade. I know it seems like a simple thing, but its nice to feel valued. We were initially placed on the first floor, and thank goodness i noticed that it was a pet-friendly hotel because that led me to ask what floor we'd be on. I am severely allergic to cats and dogs and it can trigger an asthma attack. We were moved to the second floor, but I'm surprised that I was not asked about my possible allergies when they chose to place us on the floor where pets are allowed. I still had some allergies on the first night. Runny nose, sneezing, and cough. I had to use my inhaler, but all was better by day 2. Our body wash dispenser was not refilled during cleaning, so we used shampoo in its place on day 2 and 3. The amenities were nice. Breakfast area was clean, our server was kind and attentive, and the pancakes were delicious! Yes, this hotel is on the Riverwalk, but far away from the busy part of the Riverwalk. You'll have to drive unless you want to take a 30 minute walk one-way to get to the action. There were a handful of local restaurants but be prepared with a reservation. This hotel charges $45 daily parking, but then you'll have to drive to the action, and park and pay there too. I had a question about my points and was simply referred to Bonvoyage and that was that. Beautiful hotel, but for the price and lack of acknowledgement, next time I'll pick something closer to the action and where I feel valued...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and my mom went for her birthday weekend, I used my points through Marriott Bonvoy and the check in was pretty smooth. I was skeptical about the location, Iāve never been to San Antonio and the other Marriott locations were downtown, had Resort Fees and parking $45+ which is why I pick this location because the website said āValet 45+, OFFSITE parking $10ā id rather pay $10 than $45 right? I decline valet and had to find parallel parking off the street because we did not have pay if you were lucky to snag a spot. Unless you want to pay overnight parking $45 in front of the hotel through a QR code⦠unsure where the $10 parking was but when I told the front desk he said yeah itās off site but didnāt confirm the price.. either way your options for parking is $45 for valet, $45 in the lot across the street or keep a lookout for parking on the side of the street..
The bartender Veronica was great, the hotel has a nice restaurant and bar. I got a burger entree and a strawberry margarita, both were great. Nice hydration station with cold water and ice.
The reason why I didnāt give 5 stars is because one is the parking, $45 is crazy. Second, I ordered extra towels, bath essentials and pillows through the app and they were never delivered to the room. Why have this as an option on your app and not come through with it.
Staff was friendly, opened the doors when you walk in. Quiet room: I LOVE THE HIGH CEILING ROOMS.
Just the parking and the service on the app was a con. I would book here again if I didnāt...
