We tried Izumi on a Saturday around 6 PM after seeing it all over TikTok and noticing the 4.5-star reviews. The place looks nice — comfortable seating, trendy vibe — so we thought we were in for a good night. Unfortunately, the food didn’t match the hype.
The miso soup was fine — nothing special, but no complaints. Then came the ragoons, which threw me off completely. Instead of the usual creamy, salty filling, they had a sweet filling and thin sauce. Maybe some people like that, but it felt more like a dessert than a starter.
The dumplings — usually my boyfriend’s favorite — looked and tasted reheated, not fresh. Even he was disappointed.
As for the sashimi (my personal favorite), the salmon was overly fatty, soggy, and borderline room temperature. Good sashimi should be fresh and slightly firm, not limp. The pepper tuna had so much seasoning it felt more like a steak rub than a sushi dish, overpowering the fish entirely.
The mango roll was mostly avocado with barely any mango or shrimp, and it was bland to the point of being forgettable. My last hope, the ahi tower, followed the same theme — snow crab was okay, but the “spicy tuna” wasn’t spicy, barely tasted like tuna, and had no depth of flavor.
We ended our meal early, let the server know, and didn’t mind paying for what we ordered. The waiter did ask us why we didn’t like it we did let him know that we just didn’t like the flavors. They weren’t pushy or anything, they brought our check and we just paid. So service wise it was good. But for our first AYCE sushi experience in San Antonio (after trying plenty in Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth), we left hungry, disappointed, and still searching for a place...
Read moreOur server Simon was great very polite and attentive without being overbearing and his suggestions gave us AMAZING options We ate like to two starving orphans as you can see in the pictures considering all the options we got lol you can order as much as you like all at once and then if you want to order more mark the next paper and it’ll be out in a flash here’s what we got: For the appetizers they were all very hot and extra crispy/crunchy the jalapeño Bombs and yellowtail/salmon Jalapeño (got too excited and forgot to take a pic🥲) apps were our faves The hibachi is a very small portion which is great for us considering we wanted to try a bit of everything but we might each order our own next time. On the plate with 3 rolls we got the #32 by itself on the top. With green sauce on top is the #15 and then under that is the #24 (Simon’s recommendation and one of our favs) on the plate with 2 rolls we got the #35 on the left with the spicy crab on top and the #23 on the right we LOVED both of these (also Simon’s recommendations) All the sushi and sashimi we tried was SO fresh and delicious some of the best we have had in San Antonio! I do wish they had more sauce/spicy options like hot oil for example. The only spicy sauce we were able to get was sriracha. The sweet tea was thick? I ended up just drinking water I couldn’t handle it We will DEFINITELY be coming back other then that everything was delicious, it was very clean (I did not use the bathroom this trip so can’t talk about that) and the service was 10/10 and FAST we would order and the food would come out in a flash don’t sleep...
Read moreWe’ve had a great experience every time we visit Izumi Sushi Hibachi All You Can Eat. I really like the ordering system here — instead of standing in line or trying to flag down a server for each round, you simply mark your choices directly on the menu sheet, and the staff brings everything fresh to your table. It’s a simple, efficient way to enjoy an all-you-can-eat meal without feeling rushed.
The presentation is always appealing, and the food tastes fresh since everything is made to order rather than sitting out buffet-style. Pricing is reasonable for the quality and variety you get, especially if you visit during lunch when the rate is a bit lower.
If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to better label the sushi when multiple varieties are ordered. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which roll is which, and a small flag, toothpick marker, or even a drizzle pattern could help guests identify their choices more easily.
Overall, this is one of our go-to spots for sushi and hibachi, offering fresh food, a wide variety, and a pleasant dining...
