This is hands down the place that, for me, is my local hangout filled with too many memories to count; I've come for years late night with my freak set of friends, first dates in a safe public setting in the late afternoon, and multiple church lunch meetings at 11a.m. I typically order the same three dishes off the menu no matter what, but I've witnessed at my table burgers, breakfast, hot tea, chili and pork chops across from my chicken salad platter, appetizer or soup bowl. Everything has always been cooked to order - if you don't specify how wet or dry you like your eggs, just ask and you will get what you like. In five years the only thing I've sent back was fries because they were cold.
I can't talk about service at dinner rush tho I have been in there to get food to go and, it being much better quality service than the empty, ant-sy and rude service IHOP just across the way, I can imagine that a few things go awry but hey, it's dinner rush.
As for morning vs late night service, I personally like the night shift more, because while things get done perfectly well, it just seems like the crew is more relaxed? Or maybe it's AJ, she's my favorite server and my only regret is that I cannot tip her more!! Very authentic, good service and she knows her stuff, to the point that I've notcied sometimes it seems there is only her on a shift, which I'm sure has it's good and not great bits. MAKE SURE YOU TIP YOUR SERVERS PEOPLE, because even if you go in the a.m. Susan runs the kitchen to get things out well and on time, and the ladies who wait the tables in the morning are a ray of sunshine, I just am not a morning person but they will make yours a little brighter if you must be up and out in public...
Read moreSept. 17, 2023…we decided to have breakfast as a family before our day of fun began. We felt this Jim’s was great since we’ve had a good experience the few times we ate here. The waiting was typical for a large family. Staff was friendly and ready to host. Our server was GREAT! Unfortunately, the food served not so much. Breakfast started with drinks. Three of us ordered coffee. The coffee was lukewarm, creamer seemed old, and I found dirt and remnants of the previous diner’s coffee. Yuck! I asked the server for a Dr. Pepper instead and let her know I did not like the coffee. She apologized and brought my very tasty beverage. The food came. Toast tasted like day-ol’-bread. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and sausage. The sausage was GROSS (no one was able to eat it at our table), my ranchero sauce was clumpy and tasted as it had sat overnight, hash browns and beans were edible but tasteless. Luckily, my eggs were not bad. My husband ordered a burger, and that was undercooked. Our son’s chicken and fries had over cooked chicken with delicious fries. Our grandson’s pizza was extremely hot and lacked flavor. Our granddaughter didn’t like her silver dollar pancakes (she loves pancakes). Out of the 9 in our party only one almost finished their meal with a small complaint of hash browns needing a bit more cooking just like everyone else’s at our table. The chicken fried steaks were a bit undercooked as well. Needless to say, no one finished their meals and we all left hungry for our day except one of our party members. We decided to just pay and leave with the understanding of never returning to this establishment. Again, our server and staff were excellent. Sadly, that’s where...
Read moreThe Jim’s at 1604 and Nacodoches location is the one that my husband and I have gone to for the past 13 years. We really loved it. About 2 months ago, we went in there and a waitress tried to sit us at a table that my husband does not like. We asked if we could sit at a booth by the window. She angrily grabbed the menus from the table and pitched them on the table we sat at. She made it loud and clear that she was angry! The next time we went there, another waitress purposely tried to sit us at the same table that my husband does not like! When we asked again to be seated at a booth by the window, she told us no, we could not because of something about the waitress and table. I did not understand. There were several tables open located by the window, but she was determined to make us sit at that particular table that my husband does not like. My husband talked with the manager and he said the same thing. We walked out and have not returned!! My husband, who is a 75 year old veteran, should be able to sit at any table that is available. This Restaurant does not belong to the waitresses, manager or any other employees!!! It belongs to the customers!!! We pay their salary and for a service!!! For your information, we went to the Jim’s on Perrin Beitel and 410. As soon as we walked in, they said “welcome! Have a seat wherever...
