The overall experience was good. The food and ambiance was great. However, the service was questionable which left a bad taste even after the delicious food.
It started poorly with the hostess greeting us and immediately showing another family who entered the restaurant at the same time their table. That is fine and appropriate. However, after standing in the foyer waiting for nearly 10 minutes it because aggravating. A waiter greeted us and went to look for the hostess who returned to show us our table.
The seating is cute and comfortable. The perfect balance between casual and up scale. With a wonderful view of some trees and the Tower of America.
The menu is a mix of Middle Eastern and Mexican, so fun and unique. We started with a bread bowel which was a nice collection of sourdough, lemon corn muffin and scone. The breads were served with a peach marmalade and rosemary butter. Both were both unique and delicious.
We ordered a simple coffee and a Paloma (grapefruit juice and tequila). The coffee was fantastic. A Mexican dark roast full of flavor. The Paloma was terrible. The grapefruit juice that was used tasted of concentrate and extremely watered down. We were extremely disappointed.
We ordered the Chile Relleno en Nogado (stuffed poblano pepper) and another egg and tortilla dish with black beans and guacamole.
However, around the time our food should have arrived, our waitress then returned saying there was a mix-up in the kitchen and our orders were never received and had to ask us again what we ordered. She did not bring a menu and I had to request a menu to point out our original orders.
While waiting a second time for our food to arrive, the waitress did bring a 2nd Paloma without being ordered. There was no communication and we assumed this was in apology for the misplaced orders.
When the food arrived it was very enjoyable. Each item was tasty and our plates were clean by the end of the meal. At this point I felt that the service was net neutral and was inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.
However, when the bill arrived there were two orders of Paloma and my coffee had been comped. I pointed out that we never ordered a 2nd Paloma and the corrected bill had a single Paloma, but now the coffee was on the bill.
In my opinion, this seemed a bit shady and detracted from the goodwill I had been feeling for the Paloma.
Overall, I can recommend this restaurant with slight reservations. The food was enjoyable, the ambiance was pleasant, the overall service left something to be desired each...
Read moreI love the cute vibe of Liberty Bar. It feels like you're stepping into a neighbor's house and it's perfect for a lazy Saturday morning brunch. The menu has a lot of Mexican-influenced items, if that's your thing. The french toast is great. Perfectly dense, not too sweet, and unique enough that it's actually worth trying. It's definitely on the small side though, so probably not sufficient as an entree. And the half portion is kinda pricey for the couple bites that you get. I got the omelet of the day, which was a veggie omelet, and asked the server if they could add the boar sausage to it. The omelet was light on the veggies but still good, and the sausage was juicy and well-seasoned-- not too salty and just overall well-balanced! The entree came with a small portion of roasted potatoes and a couple triangles of toast with jam. I loved the toast! I don't know what kind of bread it was but it was on the chewier side, similar to some gluten free breads and pancakes that I've had in the past. Like... bread infused with a hint of mochi texture. "Chewier" makes it sound gross and weird, but I promise it was good! I'm not sure what kind of jam they brought out either (sorry), but it was also good! Not too overpoweringly tart or sweet. The surprise was finding out that my breakfast (omelet and a 3-bite serving of french toast) was $30-something because my small side of boar sausage that they put in my omelet was $12.50... more than the entire rest of the omelet itself! I guess boar is an exotic meat so it costs a little more? But still definitely on the steep side. I would have appreciated it if the server told me how much the side of sausage would be, but I also could have asked when I requested the modification. I guess I just didn't think it would be more than a few bucks. Oh well, lesson learned. It was tasty, after all, but nothing super duper unique so to me, not worth the upcharge. Overall, I was pretty impressed with the food at Liberty Bar, especially since I'm not usually a fan of Mexican food and was a little skeptical, but the food was fresh, clean, and overall pretty mild so keep Liberty Bar in mind the next time you're looking for a...
Read moreThe food was delicious, I almost didn't feel bad paying the price that I did. Unfortunately the service was completely lacking. Our server never came back to refill our coffee or water. Since we finished both, waiting for our food to show up. We had to call the busboy over to give us refills. I watched him visit and give complimentary food and drink items to everybody around us but he never even stopped to see how we were doing. We had to ask for silverware when are food showed up. And my plate of food was cold when it got there, unlike my friends salad, I ordered a hot plate of food. The only time the server came over was to give us our check. Probably won't be back for the price point that we paid... I sort of expect on beyonc quality food, and service! This met the mark on only two of the three. Unfortunately it's on one of the more unforgivable ones. Because I've made the drive for Worse locations higher-priced food if it's delicious... But service is the quickest thing that will turn a good experience bad.
I don't even understand how our server let the adjacent table bring her own coffee/dietary product into the restaurant, she even solicited sold the product to another Patron... And had it out on the table like she was an Avon lady. Definitely violating some sort of health code I'm sure.
I don't necessarily expect a uniform from a place like this, but the bartender was wearing a unrelated T-shirt with a pair of warm ups. It was almost difficult to figure out who actually work there when I needed to get a refill...
