SEE LAST UPDAT.... From the young ladies that greeted us at the door to our server Caesar, nice to see a smile and great service. Now, the clouds are partying, the angels are singing, I think I might have found that mythical magical tortilla. The one my grandmother made. The one my mother used to make. It was soft and fluffy not too thick not too thin a little puffy here and there and you could feel the floury powder that dusted the surface. I want to go back here and just have tortillas and butter. Hopefully they won't change the tortilla on us. Sometimes you find a great tortilla and then for one reason or another it disappears, but for right now, it seems like we're all in luck. The chips were light and crispy and for the first time, with this particular friend, we couldn't decide if we liked the red or the green hot sauce that comes with the chips. They were both so delicious, they both had their own nuance. So we mixed them together, problem solved LOL. I had the puffy Taco plate really good. It was a good picadillo filling. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and just enough cheese to make it interesting and the corn tortillas were some of the best I've had. I'm going to have to try their corn tortillas by themselves next time. Can you see a tortilla theme going on here LOL. Good rice and beans. My friend had the green enchiladas. They gave me a taste of them, I'm not a sour cream fan, but they were really good. They had the borracho beans. They weren't a fan of the bacon in the beans, I will have to reevaluate our friendship LOL. I thought they were great and may actually ask for those next time. I also had to order a carne guisada taco (to go) and im glad I did. CG should melt in your mouth. It did. I also had an ICE cold beer in an ICE cold glass ...perfect. This place does have a happy hour (Regular and reverse) and the bar area has two big huge screen TVs, seems like there were a lot of people already taking advantage of that room. And they also had a great party room on the side, pretty big, with some beautiful Lighting in there. All in all, as long as that tortilla is there, I will be there as well 🙂.
UPDATE... had to try their breakfast tacos. Honestly full disclosure I just wanted more tortillas LOL. Breakfast tacos were great. Rosaria was our server, she was fantastic. Personable and attentive. Thanks Rosaria. And since they have that drive-thru I'm thinking about how I can get those tortillas through the drive-thru. that would be really great for an afternoon Hit and Run lol. BYOB. Bring your own butter!
UPDATE... Weekends are all about the brunch now. Including the brunch cocktails. Still the home of my mythical magical tortilla. Ummm. Brunch menu is from open to 3pm. If you're not a brunch hound, wait till after 3 on Saturday or Sunday. Its a little bit more expensive than the regular menu but this chef has pulled out all the flavor each dish can offer. Omelets, benedicts, steaks. They make tortillas in house. They make chorizo in house. Yes please. They brought a small plate with these mini biscuits with butter laced with three different berry jams when we sat down. Thank goodness there was an even number to share or this could have gotten ugly. Lol. This place has a warm and wonderful feel. THE MUSIC IS FANTASTIC! Classic and new latin. Wendy was a fantastic server!
UPDATE... Ok. Not sure what's happening or maybe its just a fluke. All new employee faces. Didn't recognize anyone. What happened with happy smiling faces. Hmm. Tortillas have changed to thinner and a bit chewy. Older? No breakfast anymore so they now open at 1030 instead of 7am. Mexican plate was ok. Nothing special. I did like the puffy taco, a bit greasy but Ptacos can be. My friend had the fideo loco. Very small bowl for $10. They weren't impressed. I know when the server put it down I thought they ordered soup. My friend stirred it around. Found some fideo in all that "loco" lol. In a nut shell, i probably will only go occassionaly for brunch 😟
DRIVE THROUGH AVAILABLE. HH. If you say brunch, you need to say...
Read moreMy husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time last night. We were eager to try their food because of all the raving reviews. Sorry this is going to be long.
The restaurant looks really nice but the atmosphere that night wasn't pleasant. First we were seated at the worst table. The waitstaff would try and squeeze between my seat and the person behind me. I kept getting bumped into while they tried to bring out the orders. So I decided to move and sit on the same side as my hubby. Unfortunately, our view was staring at the wall and a table full of people... not really a comfortable view.
Figured that would be the end to feeling like I was sitting in a bumper car. That night they had a mariachi band playing. They sounded nice but extremely loud... at this moment they are the loudest we have heard. So loud we had to scream at our waiter to hear our order... which we had to repeat 3 times so instead I decided to point and underline with my finger what type of protein I wanted.
Eventually, the mariachi band made it to our corner of the restaurant. Moving to the other side of the table did not stop us from feeling crushed in, crowded, and bumped into. As I was eating I got hit by a mariachi player playing the guitarron, as he was trying to squeeze in the other side of our table to play for the people against the wall, we had to stare at. It hurt and he patted the area he hit and proceeded to play and sing. Then the violin player decided to squeeze behind my seat to face a new table next to us. I kept getting bumped and moved each time he would sway. The last incident was with the young player, he tripped over the previous chair I was sitting on which caused our table to get pushed more into us. He just gave is a look like we were in the way. With that said, it was also kind of disappointing we were the only table they didn't ask if we wanted to request a song. We always like to tip mariachi players a good amount but honestly, I feel we got more than enough attention from them with all the bumping into us.
The food. Appetizer: Beef fajita nachos. The chip is very delicate and falls apart easily. The chunks of meat had a fishy flavor. I do like they added a good amount of cilantro, tomatoes, lettuce, dollop of guacamole and sour cream, and jalapeño slices. With that said the only flavor given was that fishy taste...
Bonita (beef fajitas and chili con queso) plate and Deluxe combination plate.
This time around the fajitas were links and didn't have that same fishy flavor, thankfully. They also had no flavor at all. The "grilled onions and peppers" were actually raw. The enchiladas have easy melt cheese which tastes like chemicals to me. Their brown sauce had to flavor and was not thick. The rice had a faint taste of Mexican spices. The beans tasted like they were fried in bacon grease but also had a weird after taste like vinegar. There was no chili con queso on my plate.
Hubby said his crispy taco shell was burnt and only tasted that. The rest he said had no flavor. The tortillas taste like they are the ready mix and just add water. They are tough and not good at all.
We tried the flan and chocolate cake. The flan tasted like tapioca and the cake is way too sweet and rich. The only thing delicious was the tea.
Was not worth the $64.33 (before tip). We left with sore throats from having to yell and headaches. No thank you.
Couple of pictures below shows how close the mariachi were to me and what I...
Read moreMy fiance brought me here February 21'st for my late birthday dinner and it was both our first time here. We waited about an hour and a half to get in, no big deal. It must be good with the amount of people waiting to get in, right? The atmosphere is nice with a bit of a mix of an elegant, cozy Mexican cantina kinda vibe. The food is good, the portions are reasonable. We ordered the Maria Bonita Sampler to start with which was delicious. For my main course I got the Ribeye steak street tacos and my fiance ordered the puffy taco plate- both dinners were great. I wasn't a big fan of the Microgreens on my tacos, but it wasn't horrible at all and actually a beautiful change complimenting the tender Ribeye steak, I just prefer to not have so much greenery on my plate, but that's just my preference, no big deal.
My main complaint is mainly the issues with my server and their drinks. When ordering our food my fiance asked for flour tortillas on the side which weren't ever brought out. He ordered a Modelo Negro that was never brought out to him. When questioning the server, he said he forgot about the tortillas and asked if we still needed them? Of course by that time we didn't, but did mention that he never brought out the Modelo Negro. He apologized and put the order in. For our drinks I ordered 2 of their Tequila Flights "The Reyes" which come out to $36 each. When I got the 2nd flight of tequila the colors of the tequila were different from the first flight and I'm most certain I didn't get what I ordered but still got charged $36 for both flights. They do have 2 other Tequila flights at $16 and $19, yet I got charged extra for something that wasn't what I ordered. I understand that products run out and will have to be replaced with something else, but if that's the case then this should be brought up to us by the server and we should have definitely not be charged $36 for something we didn't get. As for these two issues, everything else was pretty great. I also ordered their Sandia Lemonada drink and their margarita flight and left a happy girl. I'll definitely be back, but I'll pay more attention to what I'm...
