After seeing all the great reviews for this place, I figured my wife and I would give it a shot. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations.
Ambiance: 1-2. Maybe they're not done decorating. I will say that cleanliness was excellent, but the character and charm of the insides are on par with my old elementary school's lunch room.
Food: 3. OK, but interesting. Things started out good and then went downhill.
The steamed pot stickers were very good. My Mongolian Beef was beef, onions, sauce and a couple of peppers. Certainly not the best presentation as it was just kind of glopped on the plate. It tasted OK, but what was weird was that the temperature of my entree was not consistent. Most of it was warm and there were a few pieces that could have started a fire if placed too close to something flammable.
My wife's Honey Walnut Shrimp was OK even though it was served with 2 pieces of cold steamed broccoli. The server explained that the broccoli was merely a decoration. Huh? Shouldn't everything on a plate be edible and serve a purpose?
Anyway, average. You can get about the same at a mall food court or fast-food takeout place.
Service: 2. Disorganized and inconsistent. We were supplied with 1 menu for the table. The waiter came over to take our order before my wife was done looking at the single menu. I hadn't even had a chance to read it yet. Maybe I need to practice reading upside down. Eventually we both had a chance to read the menu and placed our orders.
Our pot stickers came out quickly and the food runner managed to dump half of the sauce on the table. We decided not to wait and dug in. After we had finished the pot stickers, another dish of sauce came. We told the runner that we no longer needed the sauce and she could take it away.
Then we waited. And waited. Finally another server came to the table with our check and asked if we were finished. Uh, no, we're still waiting on our entrees. She said that she would check on them.
A few minutes later our original waiter said that our food was coming.
After some more minutes, my entree came out. Still no entree for my wife. Probably a good thing for me to wait to let the 1000 degree parts of my entree cool down.
A couple more minutes later, my wife's shrimp arrived and we dug in.
The check was presented before I was done with my entree. No fortune cookies, though. Oh well, at least I won't have to wait to pay. My credit card was scooped up at lightspeed and the charge ticket came back to the table in a minute or two. Complete with a pen that kind of worked. Sigh, hopefully they can make out the light parts where the ink was hardly flowing.
Value: 2-3. OK, but a little on the expensive side for what you get. Please note that rice is not included with entrees and will cost you $1 for a cup of white rice. Sigh.
Overall: One and done. Just another mediocre restaurant in Fort Myers. Maybe this place is great for some other customers, but we had a barely passable experience. IMHO, you will have a far better Chinese restaurant experience if you travel a few hundred...
Read moreNo real complaints here. Glad to have a dim sum option nearby, and it’s convenient they have their own parking area at gulf coast town center.
They offer a dim sum menu, and also a regular menu of typical Chinese dishes. It doesn’t taste super authentic, so don’t go into it expecting that. The food was decent, and it would be a good place for kids (not healthy, but meaning kid-pleasing) as they have a lot of carby- mild tasting options like the steamed pork bun, noodles, dumplings, egg tart and sweet sticky rice ball).
They do come out in the steamer baskets, but there is no push cart, just order off of the menu by checking off the photo with how many of each you’d like of each dish. Most of the items are either pork or shrimp, which two of our diners didn’t eat either, so they ordered off the regular non-dim sun menu. What we ordered was a lot of fried /oily items so it was in no way healthy lol.
Each basket is $4.99-5.99, and typically comes with 3 of the same item. Just a heads up when ordering the fried cruller, it is double fried (quite crispy & oily) like they do when you may want to dip or crumble into congee, not the breadier, single-fry version you may have had before for Chinese breakfast. Also the turnip cake, lo bo gao has pork in there so it’s not vegetarian (though you may ask if they have that option, I didn’t think to do so). The Shanghai soup dumplings were super tiny, so that one I was disappointed about. For 9 baskets, a drink and one regular menu item it was about $70, with leftovers.
Service was efficient, no complaints. Love that they had Asian beer selection as I enjoy Japanese beers.
We get takeout here to pick up those sweet items the kids enjoyed like the egg tart (I like the “crème brûlée” one, which by the way is not like a real crème brûlée, but it tastes good, and if you order takeout, make sure you ask them to bake it off/torch the top as they often forget) and sesame balls (which sometimes takes a while to make, so call ahead at least 20 min if you’re ordering...
Read moreNEW UPDATE I have heard the original staff are being marginalized, cutting hours while hiring new staff. Andy, Ariel, & Liam have been a great asset to the restaurant, building it up when it first opened with hard work. To marginalize any of them and cut their hours is terrible. They built this restaurant's reputation with their hard work. If they are forced out, my family and I will definitely BOYCOTT the restaurant in protest. We love eating here regularly at least a couple times a month, but would not be able to enjoy ourselves knowing the friendly original staff were forced out. I suggest others who enjoy the staffs' attentiveness speak out likewise! I will downgrade my review from 5 stars to 2 stars until I hear of an improvement in the situation.
Previous review: Love this place! Nice servers and good food! Great to have another dim sum place in the area. Can't compare to big city chinatown but decent dimsum when u have the craving (also plus is most dimsum available during dinner). Ha-gow were excellent. My wife is happy to have local place serve congee. Not quite as large menu as the other dim sum place in ft Myers, but more convenient for me as its right off the highway. Really almost as good as Boston Chinatown. I come here regularly at...
