I feel like I have already rated this place so I’m not sure why it is asking me again but busy bees is one of the local bagel shops in the neighborhood. I believe it is one of the only ones. It is average. The bagels taste like they are old. They are not fluffy but not chewy or hard either. They are bland in texture and taste. They don’t give you a lot of cream cheese here and when you do ask for extra cream cheese they charge you $2.40 which seems like an exorbitant amount. They are definitely not friendly. However I continue to go back here because the bagels or average and basically due to limited choices in the area I find myself frequenting the spot. The veggie cream cheese is so delicious.

So I do frequent here often. It’s close by, the food is lighting fast and good enough. Two stars off because the bagels taste old. They are edible but the taste and texture seem like they were made a week ago. If you don’t ask for extra cream cheese you will hardly get any. If you ask for extra they charge $2.40. The veggie cream cheese is DELICIOUS. Like I said I still go here all the time because it’s the only bagel shop around but if there was anything else and somewhere with nicer people I’d rather go there. Anyhow they are consistent, fast and efficient so that just may be someone’s cup of tea.

The owner Lee did not exhange bagels for my 2 children from regular cream cheese to strawberry and upcharged us $1.20, told her my son ordered strawberry. Lee accused my 11 year old son of lying. Wow...

OK so I thought maybe I came on a bad day but after reading the reviews I guess the service is always awful. They genuinely seem put out when you walk in the door, like they're so pissed you chose to bring your money to their crappy establishment. But after you taste the bagels this won't surprise you. It's like they're trying with all their might to keep customers away. So I guess I'd be annoyed too because somehow people aren't getting the hint. So bizarre that there's a line out the door sometimes. I guess because west coasters don't mind bad bagels (no offense). But the absolute worst offense: caraway seeds on everything bagels. This is an awful west coast addition to an otherwise perfect thing. Please stop...

La Jolla resident for 20 yrs and I wish I didn’t have to write this review, but I’m hoping it will get management to act. First of all the lack of bathroom for customers is just not cool. Especially with little kids, this sucks. I realize they don’t legally have to, but it still sucks. Secondly, the cream cheese had a very “been in refrigerator for a long time” taste, like it had other flavors/smells mixed in with it and did not taste like good cream cheese. I couldn’t eat it. Coffee has never been great there but I’ve always been willing to overlook it. Owners, please listen to your longtime La Jolla patrons and make some changes to...
