To set the scene, it was Valentine’s Day, they had a pre-set menu: soup or salad starter, sous vide steak premade, and dessert. (We were not allowed to order our $65 steak to our desired temperature as they were all made between MR and M) Two bartenders seemed to be working, and at least two servers were seen for a restaurant of about 16 tables - mostly 2-tops. A host/manager was also on duty. We were sat on time by the manager and greeted by our server. Our server took our drink order and our choices from the menu. My drink was brought in about five minutes. And then we sat for 25 minutes without anyone in the restaurant speaking to us. The table next to us sat after I had received my drinks received their starters by a different waiter. When they received their second course, I tapped their waiter on the shoulder and asked if there had been some emergency with our server since we had not yet received our starters. He went and got the manager who came and introduced himself and asked if there was any problems. I told him that we had been sat for 30 minutes and had not yet received our soup. I received a sassy answer from him where he told me this was the first he had heard about it. I asked how long a starter should take, and instead of answering, he gave me a retort about how I have to understand that he didn’t know that there was any problem , when I continued to ask who he was, if he was actually the manager, and where our soup was, his response was that he could either stand here talking with me or get my soup, which did I want? Instead of our server bringing the soup, the Manager returned about seven minutes later with our soup, which should have been premade in a large vat in the back. As he sat down the soup I looked at him and said I just want to understand that I’m not getting an apology from you. At that point he said “I would’ve given you an apology but you didn’t let me speak.” And that I “had to understand and give him an opportunity.” When I’m paying $150 for dinner I don’t feel that I have to give a restaurant the opportunity to explain such poor service. I never did see our server again. We left then because we didn't trust that service would get any better. Our server never did come apologize for the delays. The manager promised to refund our $50 deposit that we had put down for this "special"...

What an amazing place to go to after months of take out and staying home. I live one block over, and have always wanted to try this place. The music is warm and inviting, lighting is on point, service is exceptional, and the food... well, I'll probably be back every week now for more!
Upon arrival, Anderson (the co-owner) greeted us with the most warm and welcoming tone and vibe. We instantly felt comfortable, and honestly, we were so excited to get to sit on the new patio seats on the sidewalk!
Anderson helped us select the right wines, and got us excited for our Nashville Hot Cauliflower and the rotisserie chicken with Caesar Brussels. If a place could be a foodgasm, this would be it. It also was perfectly timed from drinks to appetizer to entrée.
As former (and current) restaurant employees, it was so refreshing to get to sip a good class of wine during the summer night, and talk about life with the staff who were so lively and attentive. We truly enjoyed the outstanding service, the incredible food, and the good time at Common Stock.
There is no question, we will be back. Try anything on the menu, I assure you, it is probably amazing.
Thank you for the warm hospitality and for filling our...
Read moreCommon Stock was a great, modern find in the Hillcrest area that started off our San Diego road trip. Definitely worth a look see for a quick drink or a chill meal.
The first thing you'll notice coming into Common Stock is its vibe. Love the high ceilings; the huge open doors to its little outdoor patio; and big, wooden aesthetic. There's a bar that takes up most of the space in the middle with tables surrounding it. Definitely a super modern space. Service is super nice although the Saturday we went, there was only perhaps two people helping out all the customers so it was a little bit of a wait. We were happy with our server/bartender though! He was super nice; explained the items well and was super kind when a fly did drop into my drink and replaced it quickly.
Food-wise - the items were all pretty good. The warm brussel caesar salad is a delicious and saucy dish for anyone that loves brussel sprouts and caesar salad dressing. The prime flat iron steak was cooked just right too. It's not the most quality meat you'll ever eat but the chimichurri sauce on top + olive oil gave it a solid taste. The french fries weren't too bad either. Did love that the mimosa had either orange juice or grapefruit juice to choose from. All-in-all, the meal was...
