Denny's — Restaurant in San Diego

Great! We went at 1:30am and they said only one server was on duty. Ray was the best server, this guy should be the guy they make a manager on undercover boss. Now, now, let me tell ya. We were told when we came in there was only one server, we had a planned date (lookup Adventure Challenge) and we had to be there at this time. Three maybe four tables full of people. When we walked in four tables outside had not been bussed. When was the last time someone ate outside (maybe a few hours or more) since it was 1:30 am and colder outside.

The manager lady seemed very stressed and it took about 8-10 minutes to be seated. Once we were seated we watched the the stress level highten as the manager told Ray (only server) to take a break. She asked another worker to make a sign that said we are closed for seating for 45 minutes, take out only. Great move on her part as it seemed like all the younger workers called in sick. Food was still getting pushed out to the To-Go driver folks.

Ray took our order, cashed some other folks out and after putting our order in tried to take a break. As he sat down, his head rested back as if to take a nap. No sooner he was back up again getting our drinks or bring us food. The guy essentially never took his break. We tipped him a $20 on our $31 meal. Never had attitude towards anyone, I could not say the same for the manager. Overall great food at 2am and great service. Obviously, the cleanliness was not on par due to lack of staff. They are currently hiring, but none in San Diego can find workers right now while the government is giving...

Not sure how this place has more than 4 stars. I used to love the sizzling bourbon chicken, however, it was too sweet and the chicken tasted as if it had been frozen previously then overcooked leading to this disgusting rubbery texture. It also comes on a bed of veggies (bell pepper, mushrooms, onion, potato's) and while my dish was full of potato's and broccoli the brocoli seemed to have been cooked separately from the bourbon sauce and the flavor pairing made no sense. I got three little bits of mushroom and no full slices of bell pepper, just check out the picture that I took at the end of our dining experience and you be the judge for yourself. If you must come here, stick to the cold food that doesn't require them to actually cook it such as salads or sandwiches, those items shouldn't be a problem (although no guarantees as I only had a side salad). As for the others in my dining party, they ordered the same sizzling bourbon chicken, they too were extremely dissatisfied, and my son ordered the chicken tenders with fries, fries were partially edible however, there were certain fries that weren't edible as they had been rolled in so much salt they were practically radioactive. My recommendation: Don't waste your hard earned money and go to ihop or any other breakfast house instead. Also, I don't leave reviews for places that impress or amaze me, I only post review for locations that are beyond disappointing. No one likes to throw away money on an inedible meal. One of the few Denny's that is still 24hrs! Arrived at peak night-owl hour of 1:30am. Lots of parking! We were torn between ordering to-go or dining in. Both options offered different discounts, after going back and forth trying to figure out the best deal for over 20 minutes we decided to go inside and seek help from the waitress.

Our waitress, Lenore, an absolute gem of a human, had our order figured out in a snap🫰🏼, brilliant. She greeted us with a sincere, warm disposition and knew the menu like the back of her hand. Sometimes solo nightshift workers are standoffish or inattentive. Not in Lenore's case, she was quick as a whip and a genuinely helpful, sweet lady.

The food was great. Our very detail oriented order was perfect. Eggs over easy were executed phenomenally .Hash browns were the perfect balance of soft and crispy. Pancakes were large and fluffy.óp

Highly recommend the stuffed banana French toast with salted caramel. 😋

Overall, it was a delightful night. 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ service, a quick wait, an excellent breakfast in a laid back, clean, welcoming atmosphere.

p.s. it was too chilly for me to enjoy but with summer around the corner they have a lovely outside seating area. Perfect for enjoying the morning sun over coffee or going out for brunch with friends! Ample seating and they're shaded...
