Moniker was a great place to hang out and while its coffee was very good I think what really sets it apart is the specialty syrups that they make (I’m a coffee purist and I promise it’s good). If you want some great, unique coffee, give Moniker a shot.
Order: Cappuccino, Chocolate Covered Banana Late Price: $11
Review: my wife and I were wrapping up our day hanging out in the San Diego area and wanted to get a little bit more coffee before we went to dinner. Moniker jumped out at us because of the different unique lattes on their menu, their rating, and the location. They’re situated inside town center mall and surrounded by a lot of cute artsy shops that we spent some time perusing. They have lots of seating between their multiple indoor areas and their patio so you could definitely hang out here for hours.
Normally my wife and I stick with traditional coffee and espresso drinks, pour overs, cappuccinos, maybe a vanilla latte, but in this case we were really intrigued by their house made syrups. I think that’s sort of Monikers signature. They had a few different syrups on offer and all of them seemed very unique but the one that really captured our attention was the chocolate covered banana syrup. It’s absolutely wild to say that because it’s not something I would ever imagine going in a latte but the barista talked us through it, and it’s a house made syrup which normally means it’s less sweet so we decided to give it a go.
We were really glad we did. I’ve never had a cappuccino with such distinct hints of banana and chocolate without completely overpowering the drink. It was absolutely one of the most unique lattes I’ve ever had and incredibly good. The cappuccino was also great but it was kind of a standard well executed cappuccino.
My only real critique here is that they didn’t offer pour overs. They had drip coffee but only one kind and they just didn’t offer the standard selection of single origin beans that you could use order for a pour over. I think that’s sort of works for them though because what they’re clearly going for is unique espresso drinks not single origin plane coffee.
We really loved Moniker and would probably be back in the future if we...
Read moreWas looking for a quiet place to hang out, get something to drink in between appointments and I wanted to try something new. I came to Moniker Coffee Company to see what they were all about.
Since there was construction work being done on the coffee company side of moniker, I had to enter through the moniker General side of the business. This part of moniker general has clothing, jewelry and other unique and interesting items for sale.
After looking around for a bit I made my way past the bar to the coffee bar and got in line to place my order. Realizing that it was getting later in the day, I knew the caffeine of coffee would not be a good thing for sleep that night. So I ordered a Golden Sunset, which is a milk latte with Tumeric, ginger and black pepper, sweetened with honey and your choice of milk. Yum!
As I mentioned earlier, I was hoping to be able to sit down and get some work done. Unfortunately it was very busy and there was virtually no table space either inside or out and the sound of the multiple conversations made the location rather loud.
I appreciated their menu and I really enjoyed what I ordered. And when I am back in the area I will definitely stop by and order again although it is not a place I will plan on going to when I need a quiet place to get...
Read moreNervous bladders are perfect in social situations. It gives me the excuse to leave the social situation and go to the restroom. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to rely on my bladder to bail me out of social situations. Instead of telling people I'm going to the restroom, I'd like to say, "I'm going to be by myself for a little bit, but I'll be back soon". I haven't tried saying that yet. I don't want people to think it's them, it's just me and my nerves. So far my plan has been to drink a lot of coffee before entering social situations. It either makes me more social or more anxious about the social situation I'm in. Both are good. The first scenario I'm social, which I'm always happy when I'm able to do that. The second scenario, I have a socially acceptable reason to take breaks from a social setting, restroom breaks. A restroom break is truly more about resting than it is about urinating. It only gets weird when I've gone three times in the past hour. I've learned to alternate my restroom breaks with water breaks, which are a plus because they also contribute to needing the restroom. Anyway, the coffee here was good and it gave me the excuse to leave the social setting I was in...
